I think the kind of money being talked about for him is crazy. I know he can be brilliant but he rarely produces it.
For me he is a 600k player maximum. If he had 800K on the table as reported he should have jumped at it.
where you have to be patient to get results.
Tigers fans know how to be patient. I’d say the club acted impatiently. But I suppose with the incredible track record of tigers management we can be confident they’ve once again triumphed over adversity and steered us back to the hallowed path.
Given how the club handled Cleary’s exit, i don’t see any reason to wallow in pessimism
I’m not pessimistic, I just don’t rate releasing a player for nothing when he has value on the market. So I think we trade him for something. Either that or he stops being a sook, apologises and shows up to play because he can’t get released. But I’m not pessimistic. I like Madge, I like benji and we’re one of 16 teams competing in a competition for 8 places where we need to only win about half our matches and the whole comp is rigged with a salary cap to make it more even. And yet we’ve only made the finals, in other words won more than half our games, about 3 times in 20 years. So we’re every chance of being competitive next year, but I don’t see moves like this helping us much.
The rumours doing the rounds have been that the rest of the playing group was filthy with him. If that’s the case and the other 29 blokes in the squad don’t want him around why would you keep him?
I’d say that there’s every possibility that had the club forced him to stay it would have turned out as bad for the people around him is it would for Matterson himself.
@Bones Contracts mean nothing. They are broken often, teams moving players on and whingers wanting out for more money.
If a top line player had been given permission to negotiate elsewhere we’d know.
If they had negotiated without permission and a deal was announced today everyone would know they had been breaking the rules.
Anyway we’ll know one way or the other in 4 hours.
@Tweed_Tiger Does Lort think it’s disgraceful that we released him, or disgraceful how he’s gone?
Lote tweeted a few weeks ago about Mattersons management, I don’t think he is a fan of theirs.
I hope we sign JWH. His only job is to wait till we come up against whoever Matterson signs for, take him out Terry Lamb style, then he can spend the rest of the year with his feet up.
Well if it’s true about our players savaging him when he turned up at a social event then he can’t stay. Period.
He showed some thick skin to show up.
If I did what he did, I wouldn’t show my face out of embarrassment.
Imagine showing your face at work after disparaging the company in the media.
It leads me to believe Matterson isn’t really with what’s going on or had little input in it.
He is being led by the ugly Orr’s
I don’t buy that. The manager works for the player not the other way around. If Ryan wasn’t on board with what they are doing he could end it very swiftly.
Api thinks he’s future captain material.
Nice one Api.
He might captain the inmates in the annual inmates vs guards match.
Was Braith there? Did anyone have Vodka?
I have so many questions.
This is why i don’t dance, or go to church.
