This is the most disappointing POM visit to the site since the Pita Godinet news of late 2017.

An update on Godinet who sounds like he’s killing it in France. Google translator looks like it’s had a field day with this one

"Villeneuve-sur-Lot. Pita Godinet, the Leopards’ X factor
Elite 1. When he played as against Palau lately, it was a treat Pita Godinet. A little bit of “chic chac”, a skipped pass, a game with a millimeter foot or a brutal acceleration and that’s how the neo melee half … "

Josh Hoffman joining the club on a basic deal for 2020.

In the top 30 or outside?

Understand it’s outside the top 30.

Any word on the last couple of spots in the Top 30? Are we close?

We will sign an outside back before the season starts. Who and when, who knows. But we’re targeting speed, and have been for months. If we end up with nothing that would be a dismal failure from our recruitment team, especially considering we have lots of money to spend.

If Souths backended Doueji deal like has been suggested (300+500+600k) then it is reasonable for them to have to chip in an amount which equates to us paying his average salary for that period, about 450k. It’s too easy to rort the cap to sign players on back ended deals and then offload them without offering to chip in - and it’s extremely rough on the player. This is why the league outlawed backended deals, or at least they said they did. Maybe Adam signed beforehand.

Would Doueihi be on anything like this? He extended in April 2018 after 4 starts in top grade so I find it hard to imagine he got 3 years $1.4m
I like him but not that much, 30 games and just two seasons, plus he had an ACL since then, I’m sure he’s on the rise but i wouldn’t think he’s half a million dollars worthy at this stage
Hopefully we do get him, but would be good to see Souths have to chip in on say a $400k contract

I keep a spreadsheet which is an educated guess, and it did have us with $1.7m spare with 25 signed when the whole Latrell thing first picked up pace

Since then we picked up Leilua ($400k) and Musgrove ($200k max, could be less) and extended Twal, Talau & Garner

I’ve juggled a few others up (Jennings) and down based on updated info and I have us now sitting with $1m for 3 open spots

Two of JAC, Douhei or AJ plus Stefano for 2020 would to me have us with an improved squad on last year plus with a good proportion of our squad on the way up in their careers, I don’t think that’s been the case for a while

By my reckoning we have 3 spots open for 2020 with somewhere between $1.0-1.1m left in our cap, assuming no movement of our existing high $ low performing players
2021 we have 14 spots open with ~$3.5m, which isn’t that much when you consider the 16 players contracted through 2021 are on a combined $6.4m
Even if you assume we end up with 4 on the $115k minimum in 2021 that leaves just a touch over $3m for 10 players
