Been away 3 days.
No news = No surprise
How’s the cruise?
Yeah good. Sitting in Noumea atm. Really dig this place. I’m working on my Greg Louganis incase we haven’t signed anyone by the 27th. Which is looking likely.
Are you going to Mystery Island - you can just forget about everything that is happening at this place.
News is AJ wants to see out his contract with Souths and is determined to stay put. Let’s see how that works out for him. On the other hand Marwene Hiroti is very keen. He’s on a train and trial with the Sharks but his preference is the Tigers, most likely more opportunities.
More to the point, let’s see how that works out for Souths and their salary cap. Something (or someone) must have to give.
Is there a time limit by which Souths have to sort out their salary cap situation for 2020?
Must be sorted for 2020 - otherwise NRL wouldn’t have registered LM. Its 2021 where they are going to have massive problems if they don’t offload players. However i’m still not convinced they will be under the cap if GC release Arrow early.
Some caller on 2sm reported this arvo Corey Thompson to Penrith…anyone heard anything about this
Most callers on 2SM are already six schooners deep by this point. I used to listen to Talkin’ Bulldogs for a laugh but it’s beyond that now.
Absolutely shocking show - gave up on them ages ago. I can’t stand listening to know all Tunks - he waffles on as though he is in the know and he hasn’t got a clue.
There is absolutely no reason for them to keep him…
They have tried to change his mind and offered a top 30 spot and he declined…
Why waste your time and money developing a player that is leaving.
I can understand if this player was in your starting team and you don’t have a replacement (E.g. Arrow) but this is a player that has not played a game of NRL and they have a truck load of big guys ahead of him with 1st grade experience.
This is where the current system does not work… The NRL need to step in and assist or scrap the rule that you can sign a player for the year after… Such a grey area that needs addressing and surprised the Players Union has not spoke to NRL about it.
I disagree this is where the contract system works. The existing club should not have to release a player a year early because he signed elsewhere .
Matto could be a example used . Say instead of him acting like a tool to get out of the contract he instead signed a contract with parra do start in 3 years when his tigers contract expired , does that mean tigers should release him , ofc not . However in mattos case due to his salary and impact on rest of playing group he was let out of contract . With stef on peanuts , him having a whinge won’t impact playing group and with eels thinking they are in a premiership window, it’s a no brainer for them to keep him as they should if they plan on using him at some stage of the year
Thats all well and good but if they can’t convince him to join their top 30 they can’t use him until after June 30. seems a pointless exercise just to deny the kid a guaranteed first grade spot with an upgraded contract.at another club
Tigers actively looking for a top line centre as a point of need now (that’s from with-in the organisation) Content with forward pack.
Don’t believe you. Most of your other supposed inside info hasn’t eventuated.
Momo was a revelation at centre last year, and if you can believe Benji, Talau is the most exciting player at the club. Mbye is also strong at centre, so why do we need a centre as a priority?
Again have it all in written form. Can post pics if mods allow it
I can’t believe you’re still here.
Should we go through it?
- LM will be at Tigers training come 6th Jan (think you claimed JAC too)
- LM will not be at Souths
- Souths can’t fit LM in without offloading one/both of Gagai and AJ
Just the recent ones I remember.
All his posts remind me of my sister in law. Don’t believe a word she says but every now and then you get caught and kick yourself in hindsight
In his defence it was later reported the Latrell had agreed to come to the Tigers but ended up getting talked out of it (by his ‘advisors’ letting him flush hundreds of thousands of dollars down the toilet).
Regards Souths fitting him in?
Plenty of smoke and mirrors going on there … I still think they’ll shed a few players.
Makes you wonder why blokes want to play under Bennett… all the horsecrap about being a ‘players coach’ and ‘caring about their welfare’ - as he punts them.
It happens. Tigers thought they had him. The SB medical retirement changed things though tigers still thought they were favs to land him
I think Bennett has actually lost it . It’s also not an uncommon theory in League circles.
Interesting to see what happens if their (Souths) 2020 replicates the previous season… it’s all feeling very Newcastle circa ‘13/14
I was thinking the same - Bennett’s contract finishes 2021- they don’t appear to have the forwards to win the comp this year. And come 2021 if he has to punt guys who don’t want go i can see a very disgruntled team. I’m hoping he leaves them in tatters like he did with newcastle.
And can someone tell me, WITH AUTHORITY, that they are balancing the books if they keep all these backs while adding Latrell to the roster?
I’d wager that the Sam Burgess money would be going to him this year. Not sure how they’ll do it next year when Arrow arrives. Maybe there’s money left over from Burgess and they’ll front load a bit of next year? Maybe they plan to have moved on Gagai, AJ or one of their other backs at that point?
I’d reckon they would have the money for him this year since it looks apparent that Arrow will not come, and they are kicking the can down the road in the hope of clearing the books for next year.
AJ is only contracted for 2020. I assume they won’t renew his contract however i doubt he is on big money - maybe 400k. They will have Douehi on peanuts for 2020/2021 but i’m guessing he will want an upgrade or want a release if he gets a better offer. They would desperately want to get rid of Gagai but can’t see anyone taking him without a fair bit payment by souffs. They don’t really have anyone of note coming off contract at the end of 2020, other than AJ and LM. They have rolled the dice on this signing - it would be an absolute laugh if they can’t afford LM for 2021.
