Lolo best footy is at fullback. He won’t be Tedesco but he doesn’t have to be. I believe that deal will be done. If tigers also get Hopoate and Milne then the back line will be set.
What about Idris. I think he could offer the club a lot. I want to get Hopoate as well but wouldn’t Hopo be above this guy at fullback.
The signings will keep rolling out over the coming couple months. Those who are worried need not be.
Brooks now has a halves partner who isn’t worried about making the big flashy play and being selfish, he also has a halves partner who will have over 150 games experience GF, finals and origin experience next to him next year as well.
An international prop and origin back rower with a couple more signings to come and it’s looking like a well structured roster, something tigers haven’t had for what seems like a decade.
Our signings have been good but we need a lot more signings. We need a fullback but we also could do with another prop and another winger. We also need to retain most of our current players to ensure we have depth in the squad.
I feel fairly comfortable we can grab players though. I think it’s pretty clear that getting rid of the prima-donnas is leaving us with money to recruit and players are more than happy to come here when we offer decent contracts. I think in the past we’ve overpaid these guys and other players and we’ve never had good value from our squad. I can see that changing with Cleary and to be fair the current club management.
Nobody expects miracles, but the change has been quicker than I expected.
1)The move towards a slide defence sees our outside back less panicky.
2)The simplification of some roles in the team.
3)Swapping Suli & Kev
4)Getting Sue out of the 2nd row.
5)Getting Ted to lurk around the ruck rather than easily read sweep plays.
6)Increasing Brooks’ involvement and making him run more.
These are to me the differences between Taylor and Cleary. Taylor was a poor coach. I don’t think he ever really got the most out of the team that he had at his disposal. I also think Taylor was a really poor player manager. He created drama when there was no need for it.
From my understanding it was all about money, the Sharks offered a lot better deal and good luck to him. It must be very hard for a bloke like Ava to see the three amigos get offered monopoly money contracts and all there carry ons and he gets offered probably 80% less. I mean he does the same hard grind and some would argue he does a harder grind and gets a fraction of the coin.
He will go very well for the Sharks, nice guy and will be missed unlike some others
Exactly. This is the impact of having overhyped superstars on the books. It would also suck when you hear Woods stating that he had to carry the team and he had no other props to help him out.
I think Woods is a perfect example of how this club is well managed. We have a good player and the captain of the team acting like a complete twat. He is basically lying and bringing the club into disrepute. His complaints are internally inconsistent - he says one thing that doesn’t gel with the next thing that he states.
The club has dealt with this in an extremely classy manner. If anything I think they have taken the high road to an extreme.
It appears clear that we’ve had a terrible culture at the club where our better players want to have everything there way and take no responsibility for their actions. The club appears to be confronting that.
I can’t see Idris in any of the teams I’ve looked at. I’d have him in the centres.
1. Hopoate – if he plays sundays
5. Edwards – if we get him
16. Chee Kam
Our backrow is pretty ordinary. They are all decent but not match winners. I’d love to get Corey Harawira-Naera but I’m not sure where you play him as that backrow with Chee-Kam on the bench should be able to easily go for 80 minutes.
I have no idea who is going to kick goals in that team but that is not that far off a team that we could field. I think it’d be well under the cap and potentially better than what we have at the moment. In some ways these guys going may have helped us.
Having a backrow of Guerra, McQueen, Taylor and Lawrence on the bench or wherever, would be pretty dull. All workers with little impact. You need at least one member of your back row to pose a threat when they touch the ball. Maybe not in the Taumololo realm, but someone similar who can run over the top/around his opponent when given half a chance.
I agree. We need some impact in our back row.
