I’d swap Eisenhuth out any day of the week. We need a fit Packer

You’d swap a guy of who has the 2nd highest tackle efficiency behind Twal and 2nd most post contact metres behind Matterson in 2019…

A lot of people don’t rate him at all but he goes pretty good.

I don’t agree that AJ and Gagai are an upgrade on what we have. I would say they are quicker and flashier, but the only player I would drop for them is Jennings based on prior form.

We need some backs though. They would both make our top team. AJ probably to fullback and Gagai to the centres.

We’d have a much better squad.

Gagai is a terrible centre, he can’t defend. He would be a downgrade there, although an upgrade on the wing. Both of them would cost a fair bit and both would occupy first grade spots for the duration of their contracts and block youngsters coming through. They might improve our chances of coming 8th vs 9th but they would not make us real contenders. Chasing 8th just because we haven’t been there for a long time will just distract us from building towards actually contending.
We’re not going to be contenders next year but we have a good young forward pack to build with and our centre pairing (Mbye and Momirovski) have scope to improve. If they don’t then we have Talau who is a decent chance of going well. Spend the money on genuine strike players or on the next generation coming through, not on average to above average established players…

The problem is what genuine strike players are we going to get. I agree that we shouldn’t blow our load on these guys but we need more backs and these guys should walk into our top team. We just need to have contracts that are in our favor. If they aren’t don’t buy these guys.

Gagai versus Momo and Talau isn’t really a competition at this stage of their careers. I liked the look of Mbye in the centres but I doubt he is any cheaper than those guys and maybe he will play in the spine next year.

So Roosters waive 200k in fees if LM signs with us
That’s 500k-600k he’d lose in 2020 by signing with Souths
Still reckon we can get him, hopefully Madge and Pascoe are taking advantage of the situation

The next 7 days should be pretty interesting
We just really need that 1 marquee signing to get the ball rolling. If we can sign LM you’d think that would all but guarantee JAC as well who will be granted a release at the end of 2020 at the latest
Plus COE next year with a tonne of cap money to spend

With all that advantage to us it would be pretty poor result if he didn’t sign, but he seems to be doing everything but sign with us.

We have said we are not calling him again…

Modern players won’t do the begging…we should be on the phone and proactive.

Imagine if the Clippers sat there and said ‘Kawhi can call us if he wants to chat’?

All these agents follow the American model. I don’t necessarily subscribe to it, but it is reality.

Pick up the phone, be aggressive…sell the Tigers message…sell us as a place a player would want to come…

Don’t just say ‘well, they can call us if they want’.

LM knows we’re interested and he knows what we’re willing to pay.
Tigers need to be careful of how a too desperate approach could harm them in future player negotiations. If players and their agents look at tigers management and think ‘if we keep on rejecting their offers they’ll just come back with a better one’, then good luck getting fair value in the future. We’ll forever be used as a bargaining tool for players wanting to play hard ball and pump their value to sign elsewhere…
Gotta draw a line in the sand somewhere and I think the club has done everything they need to in regards to the situation

While tigers have 2-3 spots and 1.7 mil in cap space the offer will be there. It’s when they fill those spots that the offer goes away

They might not be prepared to pay the same amount now though. The contract seems more risky now.

I disagree. If Mitchell is too young, and too dumb to see the value of our offer he simply does not have the maturity required for the player we need.
We do not need a primadonna, along for the ride and for the pay packet. We need a talented, skilled leader assisting us to win games.
Personally I no longer think Mitchell is what we are after. If he takes the lead and directs his ‘current’ manager to call us I may change my opinion, but at the moment, he looks like a follower not a leader.

You don’t pay a million dollars for a guy who isn’t committed. When guys on here are talking about American sports these guys are interviewed and have to prove themselves to get the top dollar contracts. It’s not a one sided negotiation. You expect ability plus a good attitude.

Maybe he isn’t worth the top dollars that we are offering for a top quality player.

So, you’re saying his head isn’t in it? That was clear to see 2 months ago. Some had trouble moving past pinning it on our club though with “he doesn’t want to come here”.

It’s a difficult situation. I understand the idea that we should be selling the spot to him but if they don’t turn up to meetings and won’t meet with the coach what are you going to do. It sounds like he has only met with Souths.

Maybe the club has done all it can do. It’s a bizarre situation. I’m sure the club went hard after him but he has been stand offish the whole time. I don’t believe the POM one little bit in relation to the comment that his managers were the problem. He has new managers now and he still isn’t talking to us.

We don’t have the success, resources, history, status, location to use those to turn us around. That leaves us in a position where we have to make a slow and steady rebuild, which it appears the club is attempting, but after the past decade that is not a scenario that a large number of our supporter base have the patience for!

All you can do is support the team and hope they don’t make any big recruitment mistakes. I like the way the team is going now. We just need some luck.

It appears Madge has not turned out to be our saviour , Bennett and him signed at the same time look what we have got compared to what the bunnies have signed. Maybe Madge is on the nose.

You can’t blame this on Madge. The bunnies are obviously a stronger and more appealing club to him. NRL players want to win premierships and we haven’t come close in the last 10 years. Our rep won’t change overnight or with 1 respectable coach. Making the 8 this year and every year on is imperative for us to be considered appealing and even then you won’t always land who you want.

Correct. Although this won’t please some on here, i must admit i’m starting to question Pascoes ability to get things done. ( i.e selling the club and direction it is heading in) Sometimes i feel like he is learning on the run. We need a kill shortly with all this money.

It is a very embarrassing situation we find ourselves in, all this money to spend and unable to sign to players!

We only missed one. Arrow apparently was never a consideration, particularly with the depth we have in the pack. Word from Concord is Seyfarth is going gangbusters and the big unit from Parra is only days away from turning up for us. Add those two to Twal, Aloiai, Leilua, Mikaele, Garner and Musgrove and that’s a hell of a group of under 25’s.
Just need a hooker!

How often are clubs sitting around with $1m+ spare in their salary cap heading into a season? We in all likelihood go into the season with $1m spare, $375 off cap through salary cap reduction and about another $1m wasted through over paying players. You are setting yourself up for failure with that much wasted money through poor cap management!

Exactly but it’s starting to unwind and we appear to have had the most money for Latrell even though he went elsewhere.

I don’t think too many players are going to make the same decision as Latrell.

Had we have signed old man Bennett maybe we would of had Arrow & Mitchell.
I get the feeling people don’t like Madge, he comes across as being hard and not a people’s person. Just my opion.!

Won’t see the best of madge until reynolds packer and Mbye are all off the books. Some real hinderance for him there. He has that little faith in reynolds he brought Old man Benji back.

I don’t disagree with this comment. Can’t forget Madge inherited some overpaid contracts that definitely don’t fit in with his plans.

I like the forward pack he’s trying to assemble, still think tigers are one high level prop or back tower away from having a really high level pack.

Outside backs the big issue. Anyone thinking AJ wouldn’t be an upgrade are out of their mind

I agree with this. One quality forward and a couple of outside backs. Hopefully Seyfarth or the kid from Parra develop into a quality forward.

We need AJ but we need more and better than just him.

But if AJ is all we can get then AJ will have to do. He’s a good player who had a pretty poor 2019. Only young still.

I completely agree. We need to focus on improving the squad and not making really poor long term decisions.
