This Mbye to Titans talk going around suggests Madge and Hartigan have some recruitment targets that are probably interested in coming to the Tigers.

I actually think we’ll have enough cap room to buy a few decent players if they become available:

E05B2F37-95F7-4E17-9C08-80D367A83EA8_4_5005_c.jpeg

I’m guessing if we got rid of Jennings, McQueen, Taylor, Seyfarth and Dylan Smith from this list as well as the $375K we get back for the “cap breach”, there could be around $1.5 to 1.6 million to spend.

Add Mbye if we move him on, that’s $2 Million. You then need to replace 6 players with $2 million.

Currently, 5 players barely play first grade…we get no NRL game time for the money we pay. We could rebalance the cap by bringing in 4 junior players on minimal contracts.

4 x Juniors = $500,000
2 x Rep/Star players = $1,500,000

4 development boys joining the top 30 next season - probably on a bit over $100k each

I’m sure it was mentioned that the final 4 top 30 spots can be paid an 85k salary @Geo ?

It’s $115k in 2021 for these

Do you have that in writing?
Not being a smart alac but would be currious to read what the salary cap conditions are for next year.

NRL site has it but Wiki is more straight forward

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Rugby_League_salary_cap

https://www.nrl.com/operations/integrity/salary-cap/

Thanks.
Yeah says 2019 105k for minimum wage but Geo mentioned something about that applying only for the first 25. Either way. I’m scratching my head even more bout the roosters.
They must be paying Jake Friend around 275k amongst other high profile players…

They have talked about reducing the cap in future years, but I dont see how they could unless its like 3 years in the future. All player contracts are entered into factoring in future salary caps, so logistically reducing the cap would be a nightmare for every player and every club.

I went Aloiai. Not convinced he’s the best option, but I am hoping should he be given the opportunity that he will take it with both hands and become the leader we need.

@JoshColeman99 said in Moses Mbye Super Duper Thread:

He leads the competition for try assists for any outside backs this year so he has a lot to offer

Really? Is that across the whole comp? Even if it was just at the Tigers I’d be surprised. Moses MBye? Mitchell Moses, perhaps.

MBye leading the comp on try assist for any player who’s last name starts with ‘MB’ … perhaps.

Trying to stay positive? I don’t see that at all during the games. I see the team’s heads go down, and a lot of players give up.

I find this article so rubbish it is offensive.

Madge blasted them vs Warriors, and we still lost. This week, he tried the gentle gentle approach vs Knights, and we lost even worse.

Don’t listen to them Madge, to the nay-sayers. Go hard, demand excellence. Don’t change your tactics, drop the players you want to drop, don’t re-sign the players you want to let go. I know we got bugger all to choose from atm, I hope the Board has your back, us fans sure do.

Well he has selected Benji again so it looks like he will kept next season?

I don’t know if his tenure as coach could survive signing Benji for next year.

Maybe Madge thinks Liddle might need some cover at hooker, hence Reynolds on the bench. Maybe he thought it would be too disrupting to have MBye cover him, and then need to cover MBye’s position.

How about Madge, MBye to bench instead of Reynolds, Reynolds to 5/8 instead of Benji, Benji dropped, Talau back to centre, AJ back to winger.

And Blore in for Lawrence for good measure.

Time to start thinking ahead, and if you aren’t here next year, then you’re not picked.

Yeah can’t say I’d be too keen on signing TPJ

Surely as you said Roosters would have to be favourites.

I don’t think we would necessarily be a good fit for us atm, it doesn’t sound like he’d lead or pack or transform, s with his top notch work ethic. But maybe we can sniff around wherever he is going to end up and help by pinching one of their players. Manly and Roosters have a few I’d love to snare. Doggies, not so much, maybe Elliot.

Easts have a stack of backrowers, and on good dollars too, if they push Crighton out to fit him in then even better, but if we could try get TPJ and Staggs as a package it might be doable as they might stay together, interesting times ahead. We need our recruitment team on their A game now, things are going to happen fast

For sure, I’d push hard. I might think he may not be the best fit atm, but really, that’s what coaches are for and if Madge couldn’t turn him around Madge shouldn’t be our coach.

Landing him would be huge for us, and would definitely improve our side and our ability to land the big names. Definitely go hard. For him and Staggs, love it!

Depends how far you go back. I dont want to raise bad memories or partisanship here, but there was an article I read today that outlined that statistically, the worst team of all time was 99 Magpies.

Depends how far back you go. Before University was kicked out as a team, I think they went for about 3 years without a win. That is about a hundred years ago though.

In the article I read (cant find it now) they factored in F/A and the Maggies were in the high 30’s negative

Yeah I doubt the scores were that high back then for Uni as an average. High 30’s is pretty bad.

Doggies lost a couple of games when they first started where the opposition got to about 87 and 92 I think. That may be comparable, as those losses would have dragged the average up.

I think we’re just desperate for any slim thread of hope. I know I am.

I’ll stick by Madge because I know if we dump him, it’s guaranteed not to get any better for another 2 or 3 years. At least with Madge here we have a chance maybe it’ll improve within that time.

Pretty bad options either way.

Jwh would be The perfect signing

I’d happily pay him $1m a year for 3 years. Don’t know if we could afford it though, doubt he would come over (though Madge could try through his Kiwi connection,) and not sure he would stay on the paddock as the judiciary might hammer him.

1M is abit rich. I’d do 650K, however the kiwi connection to Madge doesn’t seem to have as much effect as you’d expect. It’s not exactly a hard squad to get into now with Tonga and Samoa in the mix. He’s exactly what our forward pack needs.

I agree with you $1m is a bit rich, I figured we’d have to overpay him massively to get him interested. With our luck though if we landed him he’d probably get injured.

JWH, nah. No chance, and he’s been on big money for a whlie now.

We need Taukeiaho. He actually is somewhat realisitic. He’s been earning less than 300k a year at the Roosters up until this season (in which he had to take a pay cut). He’s 28 so doesn’t have a huge amount of time left in his career to earn big bucks, and i imagine he has a large family to look after. A 4 year 4 million dollar deal plus some TPAs may give us a chance with him. He’s already won the comp a few times, maybe 3 in a row this year. Agents being dodgy and all start unofficial rumours that we could offer him big bucks and see if he get’s unsettled. Uncle Nick may find some loose change of course, but as has been seen with the likes of RTS he has his limits.

Liking it, I would be very happy if we went down this path with TKO.

This is exactly why we are in the position we currently are in. You can pay a couple of players in the comp $1m. JWH is not that and it would be a disaster. No prop is worth that money. Maybe Taulmolo is worth that coin.

I don’t know mate, I think we’re desperate, and the only actions that can get us out of this are acts of desperation.

I understand Madge’s youth policy, it makes sense, we can’t get established solid players so need to get em young and hope they turn good. But without the experience around them, they won’t develop as well. Also, when they start to be attractive to other teams, they may jump ship because we have nothing else here, like Tedesco, Moses and Woods all did. So I feel we need some experience/leadership/mongrel now, and will likely have to pay overs for them because paying less won’t get them here.
