Brain dead is correct. Bloody stupid. He would have made a massive difference but we’re going to be also rans again.

You can’t be serious. He would not have made a ““massive”” difference. Did you check out the head to head stats that CB posted on (I think) page P2611 re CT and AD ?

At best AD is a minor upgrade on CT at full back. AD adds a ball playing option and a kicking option. CT is a superior ball runner and defender (based on tackles missed).

If AD wants $600k next year and a four year deal, then I can understand why we have walked away.

I am serious. Let’s see how you feel later in the season when he’s playing great footy for another club and we’re in our usual spot outside the 8.

Have you forgotten why he may be available to us? if he doesnt sign with another club, he supposedly has been told he will be riding the pine behind the likes of Dane Gagai.

If he doesnt find a new clubm he will not even be starting at Souffs.

he is good player no doubt, covers a lot of positions pretty well, definitely an upgrade on CT…but how much do you pay? Im glad the club has limits.

For everone who is bitching that the club hasnt just thrown the money at him and met his demands…no other club has either.

He’s available to us because they have Latrell at 1 and Walker at 6. I don’t think it’s a reflection of his ability or potential. Souths have a stacked backline. They can’t keep everyone.

Braiden Burns, Campbell Graham, Dane Gagai…he cant get a gig past these guys.

Yeah but he’s not a winger. He plays 1 and 6.

not for Souffs he doesnt, his coach doesnt think he is good enough, even for a centre or wing spot,

Geez Glenn seriously? It has been widely reported he is highly rated by Bennett (it’s why he played him fullback last year) and Bennett knows he wants to play 1 or 6. They signed him up thinking he’d be their long term fullback/five eighth but then LM comes along and Walker is re-signed. Bennett doesn’t want to stifle his career so he’s told him he’s free to move elsewhere in order to play his position as that is what Doueihi wants.

He’s a great player but they have One if the best players in the game at fullback and a very good, long term 5/8. It would be stupid of them to retain Doueihi. He’s not a centre and he’s not a winger and I have no idea why people keep calling him a utility.

lol You think Bennent cares…that’s sweet…

Got a much better reputation as a man manager than Madge…

Do you realise what you are saying? I agree with you BTW. Bennett IS a better man manager than Madge…and he is letting Doueihi go.

Do you understand?

I think you’re the one that doesn’t understand Glenn. He also let Arrow go to pursue opportunities elsewhere but now he’s bought him back to Souths. He doesn’t stand in the way of players if they have better opportunities elsewhere.

Avo, Bennett like all coaches does what he thinks is best for his team - he kicks out who is best for the team. Its not about doing right by all the players, it’s only doing right by the players he wants to keep in the team. Someone like AD who is now surplus to requirements, its good for his team to kick him out, and pay no money, so thats what he is tryng to do. Bennett doesnt care about Doeihi, he just wants him out.

Crawly pulling numbers out his butt (no swearing coverup willow) again.

He also makes a lot of editorial commentary for a reporter.

“Tigers can ill-afford”
“Tigers are trying to sell it publicly”
“given some of the dud deals they have done in recent years”

The thing I intensely dislike about the idea of “dud deals” is many teams have done many done deals over the years, it’s not restricted to Tigers.

And Tigers have a few blokes on the books who may have had an entirely different role / output had the coach stayed; i.e. it’s the coach’s movement that impacts many careers. This would be true of many clubs who move the coach on.

There are a few journos right now running the critical line that “Tigers need to sign someone before the season starts”, whilst also acknowledging that the rush to sign players may have been a factor for the last coach.

Tigers don’t actually have to do anything at all and I’m pleased that they aren’t reacting to the media, that’s one thing I like about Madge - you can write what you like, but Madge is his own man on his own schedule.

Finally - if you had said in October that our pre-season would be a swap BJ in and Esan out, I would have been cool with that. Latrell wasn’t even on the radar at the time, and BJ is a much more cost-effective option in centres - you can sign BJ and another NRL-level player for Latrell’s wage alone.

We’re not the only club limited to dud deals.

Jack Bird, Anthony Milford, Darius Boyd, Ben Hunt and Corey Norman are just a few names off the top of my head that are on good coin and aren’t returning on the reported investment.

Keiren Foran …

Ash Taylor, Jarred Hayne, Greg Eastwood was on massive money and in Reserve Grade.

Is there a general pay scale any where what values are placed on positions players play values seem to have blown out alarmingly in recent times probably because of the scum bag managers

This could be done, by looking at the average wages of current players. But we’d only be guessing some of those figures.

Interesting though, I’d like to see the different makeups each teams use, I’d bet there would be patterns.

Wests Tigers ready to offer Joey Leilua a lucrative deal, but leave Adam Doueihi hanging
Wests Tigers are on the verge of finalising a lucrative deal that will keep Joey Leilua – but are ready to snub South Sydney young gun Adam Doueihi for the sake of $350,000.

While Wests Tigers close in on signing the volatile Joey Leilua to a lucrative deal, the exciting Adam Doueihi has been left standing in the cold amid concern he is being short-changed.

Leilua could make the move from Canberra to Concord this week in a deal that will pocket the rampaging centre $1.8 million over three years.

But the Tigers’ hopes of also signing South Sydney young gun Doueihi are not nearly as positive at this point after they were said to baulk at paying Doueihi just over $350,000 for this year.

Doueihi is on a reported $500,000 for 2020 although the Rabbitohs have already chipped in more than $150,000 just through monthly salary instalments since November.

Most would probably deem that makes Doueihi an absolute bargain for a 21-year-old who is equally comfortable playing fullback, five-eighth or centre.

Souths are saying they don’t need to move Doueihi to stay under the salary cap this year so if the Tigers want him they can pay what he is worth.

It is believed another Sydney club is also interested in Doueihi while Melbourne is a potential option, although Doueihi has indicated that he doesn’t want to leave Sydney.

Meanwhile, Canberra will pitch in about $400,000 of Leilua’s $700,000-plus contract for 2020 with the Tigers then expected to pay Leilua $500,000 for 2021 and $600,000 for 2021.

Negotiations almost fell over on Wednesday when the Tigers apparently threatened to take their offer off the table but those problems related to a $100,000 discrepancy which was smoothed over later in the day.

The parties were believed to be back working on trying to finalise a deal on Wednesday night.

If it eventuates it will be a welcome boost for the Tigers after they missed out on signing Latrell Mitchell and Jai Arrow over the summer.

While Leilua is regarded as one of the NRL’s most temperamental players, there is no disputing he is also one of the most dangerous and can provide the Tigers with exactly the type of x-factor they desperately need.

The Tigers are trying to sell it publicly as if they are not panicking to land a significant signing but if they miss out on Leilua or Doueihi it could be a huge opportunity missed.

It is understandable the Tigers are keen to sign both players for a bargain rate given some of the dud deals they have done in recent years.

But the Tigers can also ill-afford another season to go by where they fall short of a top eight target given they own the NRL’s longest finals drought having not made the play offs since 2012.

Yes I would like some signings, but I am very pleased to hear our admin are doing this the right way. If our admin decides not to get a player, be it Doueihi or Joey Leulua, then good on them for having the guts to stick to the winning formula. Such integrity will lead t o great things sonner or later.

Titans playing hardball as you know. They want Murray AND Tom. Gags and Johnston staying. The only one leaving is Douhie to perhaps Tigers old news I know but souths will release for Packer AND Mcqueen.

Just read this on Fox sports…

"Doueihi wants a four-year deal. At the moment the Tigers are only prepared to offer three years.
As for Leilua, sure he’s an impulsive hothead who can be diamonds one day and stones the next.
But as Jack Gibson famously said: “We don’t want choir boys”.
So what’s the hold up with Leilua?
The Radiers centre wants $600,000 for next year and 2022.
The Tigers are only prepared to offer him $500,00 per season.
Yet they pick him up for the bargain price of $350,000 for this year, with the Raiders chipping in a similar amount.
From an outside perspective, it looks a simple negotiation.
Trouble is, the Tigers have been making the simple look like four-unit Algebra for way too long now. "

This needs to be sorted ASAP for me as we are in the media again for the wrong reason and this has to be impacting our Brand…
My thoughts on this - Yes just sign JL as its only for 2 years and he will put everything in especially with his brother here…
I can understand the Tigers are concerned about a 4 year deal for a young guy with ACL injury and not proven… Hard one but need to do something…

Come on Tigers, get them both! 3 years, 4 years, whatever. Is it really worth losing them over it? Put in KPIs or something.

Souths got LM on a 2 year deal, with the second being optional in Their favour?!? Surely we can sort these deals…

From Facebook - Josh Reynolds who was charged with domestic violence in November is seen in a video that we won’t post here for legal reasons, is allegedly seen in a video doing the rounds on social media repeatedly and aggressively calling a female “dog and a c*nt”.

Without knowing context it appears she scared him which upset him whilst recording him without his knowledge. It’s unknown how old the video is however it’s doing the rounds on social media in private groups.

More on www.nrluniverse.com

So he reacted when he found out he was being recorded without his knowledge? Is that really all? If so he’s the victim.

Geez what a horrible take.

It’s not a horrible take at all. Like @happy_tiger said previously this incident is so clearly a set-up by the woman in question. She’s provoked him then recorded his reaction on camera, all for what? And the way you blokes go on and on as if you’ve never argued with a woman in your life. He won’t be sacked for this and shame on whoever recorded/distributed the video.

Crikey, another horrible take.

There’s nothing wrong with having an opinion. Let’s just remember we have only a sprinkling of details, very little of the context and only the perception of one side which we know has an agenda (whatever that agenda may be).

How about we hold off on the Kangaroo court for the moment?

My opinion is looks bad, no idea how it fits into the scheme of things for Josh personally, but doubt we will get any cap relief through all this.

Adam Douehi is worth no more than 400k, BJ 450k. You could justify 50k more at a stretch.
Not a chance you take either on back ended inflated contracts. If we are talking 600k + walk away now.

I like both but the club has to be sensible and not get desperate. It’s how we ended up with Reynolds, Mbye, Packer on big money.

450k for BJ? Lol. I mean yeah if you could. But you can’t. His metric value is closer to 700k. So yeah 450k won’t happen BUT how good is blind impressions of ones worth

Raiders signed Curtis Scott on a 4 year deal at 400k p.a. He’s 22 and a better centre ask Ricky.

IMO Curtis Scott is not a better centre than BJ and there is no evidence that Ricky thinks he is better. Clearly Ricky thinks he is better value but that is an entirely different thing including his age and salary cap space over time. Also I doubt Scott is on $400K

I think Scott is more consistent than Leilua

Scott may not have the highs of Leilua , but he doesn’t have the shockers that Leilua has either

Scott only managed 9 games last year and still had 2 years to run on his Storm contract.
If he was so wonderful I can’t imagine Bellamy letting him go (even considering the salary cap)
Nowhere have I seen it reported he is on only $400k per year on his 4 year contract with the Raiders.
Might end up being trouble for them.

They had to fit Cam Smith in somehow for 2020 , remember he only signed very late last season

And he insisted on 2 years when they only wanted to give him one. Pity no one cant prise the other Smith away.

I think Raiders hit their purple patch last year, and this year will struggle to make the 8. Seems to be their pattern, they make the semis every two years, then miss them. And good point about Scott and his injuries, hes a rep player but an ex-rep player, his best had past.

Sounds like the sort of fella we usually pick up, how’d we miss him?

The Rabbits just signed Latrell on 700k.
I’m glad your not managing the salary cap as that’s a mighty expensive BJ. The Metric Value of A BJ depends on the technique.

He’s a good player, I rate him but at those dollars it would be as bad as Reynolds. You don’t pay that sort of money for a centre known for inconsistent play. It would undo all the work Madge has undertaken for short term gain. When we lose a young player that comes through we will regret the expensive BJ.

Good points, and you are probably right. Scott was a steal at that price (if at that price) (Edit), especially replacing BJ who was on more.
But come on, I doubt any one else on this planet believes Latrell is only getting $700k to play with Souths. I wouldn’t use him as your example.

Just making the point the numbers are for top flight players spending 700k on a centre is extreme. BJ is good but he’s not in that class. Agree the Latrell deal is questionable however it’s spun.

You are right, that much is considered overs. Is it worth paying a little bit more for the right fit? We are pretty desperate to tell the truth, we need to be patient but we also need a win - we need at least one more good recruitment pickup to show we’re on the right track.

If we get one of these guys at a slightly higher price as is talked about, and they excel, then good times ahead.
If we make the 8 and do well, then we wont care what they’re paying the players, it’s considered a success.

But it ain’t my neck on the line, I’ll back whatever Madge decides, its his neck.

AD at $375k this year, as Souths would have paid $125k already, and the full $600k for 2021, followed by let’s say $500k the year after would be $1.475m over 3 years, that’s less thyan $500k a year. For a player we anticipate on playing in our spine, less than $500k a year is cheap.

Well worth it imo, Our problems lie in the fact that Reynolds and MBye both are on somewhere near $900k each, and there’s nothing we can do about that now.

Edit: IF we don’t think he’s worth $500k, why are we trying to buy him??

I say do it, grab Douehi and BJ Leulua and then start courting Kane Evans just to force Eels hand to release Big Stef.

Reynolds is not and will never be a hooker. His service from there is terrible.

Maybe he will do well in the role because he has had all off season playing there. You are correct though and it doesn’t look promising.

He’s just not a dummy half. It sounds strange given he’s a 5/8 but his passing just isn’t up to it. Benji stepped in with almost zero practice and was a million time better. I think Mbye would be the better option but it would be nice to have an 80 minute hooker. Chee Kam and 3 big guys on the bench would be good to watch.

Tigers trainer told me yesterday Billy Walters is most likely to start at hooker. He’s first pick ahead of JR , then Mbye.

Id like to see Billy have a crack. That being said, where does that leave MBye, as BJ and Momo would be our centres (assuming we land BJ), AD or Corey at fullback. Momo is not a winger, so if hes not centre hes left out.

I almost wish we didnt have MBye.

Now this is where the club digs in and refuses a player release if Stefano asks for it. He has signed with us for 2021 for 3 years I believe on not a lot.

No release especially to the mud dwellers.

It is a bit concerning, as it would be very tough to endure constant criticism from people in your ear without some of it eventually sinking in.

We should absolutely smash them through official channels should something eventuate here. Really make a stand. Refuse to play them if the NRL does nothing, wouldn’t the papers love that! Toddy would have to do something then, FOX network would be really not impressed if they lose a game and have to show a replay.
