If Pascoe keeps trying to play hardball and we miss out on Douehi for the sake of $100k it will be a bad move for the club. He’s an excellent player that hasn’t yet reached his prime. He will increase our chances of making the 8 in 2020. No point going into March with $1m in the bank.

You’d be getting him for under 400k for 2020 as Souths have already paid him 3 months. Assuming the 500k figure is accurate.

Let him train with Souths till March then sign him…will only cost us $330k for 2020…

You’re talking as though they need to let him go. They probably don’t. We’re not doing them a favour taking Doueihi.

You’re right but maybe Doueihi needs to be realistic as well. Either he stays at Souths playing backup and collect $500k for two years stalling his development in the process or he accepts a reduced deal to join the Tigers.

Why should the Tigers be the ones that are wearing everything, by all reports Souths don’t “need” to move him on and would be happy to see him bide his time as backup so maybe it’s Doueihi that needs to give a bit as well.

a player cant reduce their deal, NRL wont allow it

He wouldn’t be reducing it he would be negotiating a new contract and if it were for three seasons that worked out at say $400k per year then no problems with that at all for the NRL.

yes there would, the NRL don’t allow it. a player who is already signed for 2020 on $500k can not sign a new contract anywhere for a lesser amount

I would think with your user name that you’d know better, he can absolutely agree to a longer contract at a different yearly rate.

ok mate🙄

Dont you remember? Chris Lawrence had a deal for $400k plus for two more years, he gave up on that, renegotiated, and accepted a 3 year deal for $300k a year. That was about 3 years ago.

Maybe its different if youre switching clubs, or maybe theyve changed the rules, but I haven’t heard that they have.

Lawrence was on $600k for 2017 which he renegotiated for $450k for seasons 2017 and 2018.

I stand corrected

Doueihi would have had some of his current year contract already covered by South’s would he not have? Surely that would get taken into consideration by WT for signing him…

Latrell M was paid $117k by the Roosters so far this year for his contract according to reports. That’s a decent amount of the annual sum - could be 20-30%

Good point, Nov, Dec, and part of Jan paid, thats maybe 25%…

Edit: So if he is on $500k, $125 is already paid. $375 would be alright and thats with Souths paying no more.

Then you free up cap space for South’s to go chasing JAC, smart move.

I said that last week concerning LM, but really, the players already know whether they want to come to us. It doesnt matter what other club is available, they will come to us or not. We could sign Douehi, and still have cash for JAC.

I think go for both Douehi and JAC, and if we dont get Douehi look at AJ and if we don’t get JAC then look at BJ Leulia or AJ.

There was a comment a few days back saying that WT management may not post in this forum, but they do read it. Maybe that was someone’s opinion, or maybe fact, i don’t remember.

I know which players I’d prefer to sign (atm Douehi and JAC or Johnson) but ultimately, if WT make the semis and play well in the semis, then I and I bet many others will see this year as a success in starting to turn around our clubs fortunes.

So Madge, Pascoe, sign who you want, we just want success, make those semis and we won’t care if we have 17 rookies we’ve never heard of before in our team.

Like Souths have Inglis “helping”, thats what we need to get Benji doing next year. But we cant mention it now of course, not until after Benji retires, or Toddy will eventually catch on in 2024 and fine us again.

We have a guy whos supposed to play hooker, Liddle, but hes injured. We have a plan for the future, if Liddle doesnt work, Simpkins, hes just six or twelve mobths away. We even have a back up in Walters.

We arent going to get a quality option for six to twelve months, we just have to make do. Reynolds was probably first makeshift pick, but hes thrown himself under the bus so who knows with him now. MBye is pretty much it.

Whatever happened to Reynolds drama anyway?

Ive been thinking about this, and this bypassing of the cap that Souths have done shouls be an ATO matter.

If LM took our $1m/year deal (lets say it was an even $1m) then he has to pay tax on that, and he gets maybe $650k after tax.

But taking Souths $600k, he gets maybe $450k. Now you add the benefits given to his hanger-ons, and theres no income tax on that, so it just takes another $200k and hes broken even.

Souths (& likely the Roosters, and Storm) are cheating the ATO out of taxes that the players should be paying.
