I wouldn’t at all be surprised if we don’t sign anyone until next year. Why not leave 2 spots for any players that want a mid season release? Parra are leaving a spot open for Semi next year

Exactly.

We have almost a new team here. We don’t know who is going to play poorly and who will do well.

Lets wait till some guns get chucked on the market with loading. Why sign the dribbles from the dogs? We should not be their salary cap solution.

Who knows what position we will need people next year. Maybe it’s Lock, Maybe it’s wing, maybe it’s something else. Lets see this team play together.

Haha. I should have read here first.

I just posted the same thing in Moylan thread and started my post exactly like yours.

Bodene is solid, but we been there done that.

I think we should just hold onto the cash and see what happens later. Who knows is may help is jag a top class player for season 2019.

Next years cap money can’t be held onto and spent in 2019, it needs to be used for next years squad.

But you can fron load a contract.

Exactly.

there seems to a be an even spread of people thinking we might need one or all of the following:

A better or full time fullback option,
A tall fast winger,
A better halfback,
A dynamic standout back rower.

Unlikely but We might not need any of these. We just don’t know.
However we will have a much better idea after 12 plus rounds next year.

Prepare cap space now for 2019 and push for the top 4 with a perfectly recruited missing piece.

unless there is a real bargin

Just watching the Wakefield game. He’s going to be a real asset to help start our sets on a good note. Very powerful a real handful. Took a good leaping catch in the air to score a try as well. And just as I write this here comes off the wing in defence and allows his winger to score a try. However it was probably touch-and-go whether he had any other option.

If we were to get Moylan then I wouldn’t be unhappy. Depending on cost of course.

Obviously he’s a quality player. With regards to his personality Ivan has dealt with him previously and also has a pretty solid inside information link to know how Moylan is dealing with the Penrith playing group. Therefore I’d be very comfortable if Ivan decides he is worthwhile having here.

I’m a big believer that we should go with our current squad for the year front load some contracts and find out where our weaknesses are ie find out which players don’t Step Up and then raid players for 2019. Unless of course there is a obvious bargain.

Unless we can get an awesome bargain with the current cap drama, I think it could be a smart move to fill up the remainder of the roster with minimum salary future potentials.
Then front load our longer term players with what is left of the cap.

The question marks still hanging over our most crucial positions are a worry.
And though I love the idea of signing more solid depth or starters for next year, realistically, even if we signed a star I feel we are still just pushing for a top 8 spot.

However, if after a year we find out which of the crucial questions have been answered either positively or not we can then use the cap space we will have to target players to cover those positions if needed.
Especially if there are potential gems coming off contract in a year.

A year then allows the spine to gel and hopefully convince us they are the answer.
That also then gives a full year & two off seasons for Twal, Hooth, Suli, Marsters etc to gain experience and growth.

We then sign any missing piece and push for a premiership in 2019.

Simple.

This thread has a finals feel about it. The excitement of September. Something we all dream of.

I guess the game sort of is for us. A final that is.

How good does it feel. Hey, I’ll take whatever I can get.

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow.

I just noticed that sportingbet have us at $151 to win.

I am certain that price is the same as what it was in '05 when that tigers fan got on us and the swans and made $750,000.

Got me curious about table comparisons.

Anyway, the precedent has been set.
So as long as there is a heart beat I’ll remain a dreamer.

I’m enjoying your positive insights into the current situations Boonboon.

Some people may call it delusional thinking, head in the sand stuff - but one thing i am certain about is that whether i am bitching & moaning or drifting in the clouds on unrealistic optimism, it will have zero effect on what happens at WT.

All it will change is my mood & after a near year of pain its time to get high on the dreams of good times ahead.

So shoot me up into the sky Boonboon!

Maybe Sheens needed a hand rearranging the gym?

Royce had some good ideas for the gym back in the day. Folkes was also a brilliant gym arranger. Sheens has had to do it himself for the last few years, so he needs some fresh ideas now.

I have a feeling that the gym comment is going to get quite a work out.

And no Hagan unless he gets Joey back on the park, as that is all he ever had going for him.

i have no problem with the ineffective scrum plays.
They make me feel like we are giving back to the game by creating a purpose for the scrum.

On a more serious note, I want our team to play a bit better.
