Do people really get paid for articles like this? No crap Sherlock, I realise we struggle to put back to back wins together and lose more than we win. Apparently that is why we struggle. Wow!

i’m not sure how the salary cap works. But if there is a lot left in the cap for the tigers can they just use it to pay players currenlty on contract? so in future years we can use it to buy players?

Yes, and I think this is exactly what will happen. We also need to fill the roster spots though and I can see them being filled with development players

Apparently you cannot do that any longer!

You definitely can. I think some here are getting confused because you can no longer BACKend contracts.

if that’s possible (front end) then i can only see that as a positive. Sign away end of 2020 and 2021! 🤠 👍 👍 👍 🤙 🤙 👏 👏 🤙 🤙

I agree with you and think that is what will happen, but the other side of that coin is we fill the rest of the roster for 2020 with cheap/development players and it could be seen as sacrificing 2020 for future years.

Sacrificing 2020 is unacceptable imo. Not good enough and questions should be asked.

im ok with it mate. tanking for future success!

What you mean we haven’t been tanking for the last few years for future success? After the last 8 years if we have another bad year, it’s not tanking it’s just the same old WT.

Hi all, long time reader, first time poster… I read the comments section of an article on the roar. A former storm insider gave his insights on what madge looks for when recruiting. Interesting stuff and in my opinion sheds him in good light:

“ When I was at the Storm we called it “the cuppa test”. In other words if the Head Coach did not like you then it was irrelevant how good your video and stats analysis was. Club founder John Ribot told me that if you would not invite them to your home to dinner or babysit your kids then they cant make our team.
That philosophy is massive with the Wests Tigers Head Coach Michael McGuire. I have never seen anyone talk to players like he does in an interview as his focus is on the players family, his upbringing and goals.
So, I would love to have the “Cuppa Test” built into my program, but it is a gut feel thing and it is more powerful than any stat.“ S Woodward

As someone who remembers the sl war if the
Storm are set up on the morals of ribot let’s just say wts should aim higher

Aj is just an average player who would join our club coz his club doesnt want him and we are probably the only option. I’d love to get a star player but it feels like it won’t happen. Eep.

Can I remind you that the Roosters don’t want LM either or does that negate your argument

You could say the same about AJ, but I won’t

So much crap talk at the moment on the forum, in short, you can only buy what’s available. Just remember that buying a champion player does not make you a champion team.

> As being the laughing stock of the NRL ppffttt I don’t buy that at all. I would suggest that most opposition supporters would say that the Tigers are their second fav team, maybe they just like underdogs.I can take that as a compliment.

Anyway, its only a game a far worse things are happening at present in Australia and the world. Fires, unemployment, drought, climate change, Trump etc. Just enjoy the game and the club for what it is and enjoy our wins and drown our losses…

If you talk to most Rugby League fans funnily enough you find that the Roosters are the laughing stock of the NRL. Despite their onfield success, most people are aware of their favouritism with the power brokers of the NRL and are skeptical of the way they have ‘bought’ their success in recent years. People are always having a dig at their salary cap sombrero and seem to regard their Premiership success as somewhat hollow victories.

I’d settle for being the laughing stock with back to back premierships!

That sounds like the definition of a Roosters supporter.

Well my missus and eldest son support the Rooster. Me and the little bloke are Tigers. I can tell you who does more smiling in our house during footy season!

Don’t listen to them Bones, deep down they know those victories are just hollow and were brought about by the systematic pillaging of the best players from other clubs under extremely dodgy financial dealings that the NRL turns a blind eye to. Everyone knows it, even Roosters supporters.

So doing whatever you can to improve your team is hollow. I’d call it professionalism and ambition.

I might finally have something positive to say about Greenberg. Let’s wait and see…

I would not be surprised if these guys had more dirt on toddy than the nrl has on them. Could be interesting or nothing will come of it as they realize they all lose

The Mole:
WESTS TIGERS COULD CLAIM UNION GIANT
A former Queensland Reds rugby union forward is set to make the jump across to league with the Wests Tigers.
Waita Setu, younger brother of former Dragon Lagi Setu, was born in New Zealand and moved to Australia to play in the Storm and Broncos junior systems.
The 27-year-old loose forward then switched to union, where he played several games for the Reds in Super Rugby before moving to England.
He played last season for Brisbane City in Australia’s National Rugby Championship and is currently trialing for a contract with the Tigers.
Having lost Ryan Matterson and Ben Matulino and with Russell Packer on the outer, the Tigers have vacancies in the pack and Setu, a 110kg giant, could prove a handy addition.

Date of birth 5 February 1992 (age 27)
Place of birth Auckland, New Zealand
Height 1.88 m (6 ft 2 in)
Weight 110 kg (17 st 5 lb; 243 lb)
School St Joseph’s College, Nudgee

Just a photo on WT website from today’s training session.

3 games for the reds. Tried to play provincial rugby in nz but not selected for north harbour. Can’t be a top 30 contract.

Greta Thunberg is this just the shameless explanation of a young girl or do people actually think she’s the real deal ?

With a Script…

Without a script…

One is a very emotional one from the heart that she had long prepared for on her key subject, whilst the other was supporting UNICEF in raising awareness. She is a child, one that is tired from the pressure that comes with her position and probably the only one there that had not felt rested having flown in for the event.

I think the last thing she or other outspoken girls need, particularly when backed up by virtually the whole scientific community, is other females questioning her, as the attacks of many males (some very powerful) is almost endless as it is.

What country doesn’t have a remembrance day for their soldiers? All the allies from d-day do at different times of the year. Does Germany have one? Really wondering what that meme is complaining about. Expect that the person who made it thinks the teenager is a brat.

Tbh prefer if josh concentrated on his first job first. Play a full season with good consistency, not just a handful of good games.

All this had me thinking about who I was most happy about as a signing from another club.

Wests Tigers: I got excited about Terry Hill coming over.

Nostalgia
Balmain: really excited when Neil Pringle signed.

Western Suburbs: I thought Bob Lindner was a beaut.

Most excited about was Nick Graham. Both us and the Broncos wanted him and we won…won being used in a very loose term here.

@Russell We are not buying groceries, we are purchasing the near future of our club, if it works out and he comes then our world changes if he can deliver the game we all know he’s got. I would have thought that’s what we all want.

Not sure what you are on about, but this is a $1m/year contract and he is still twiddling his thumbs going to see the Titans, who have said, they don’t have the cash and wont guarantee what position they have for him. We have.

If he’s coming (I hope he does) he has some work to do (he is not a journeyman player) and fishing with the family is not one of them, but again, I see nothing wrong in trying to determine his interest by putting a deadline on a decision.

So lets play this out… he is 22 and has a young family. He has won everything already - comps back to back, state of origin back to back and played for his country.

He has nothing to prove.

This is the biggest deal he will sign, he has the national coach showing interest and a lifestyle option up north that he can associate with.

LM has also basically played and trained non stop for close to 2yrs and finally decides to take a holiday with his family.

Our club doesn’t have alot of power here - cool offer overs but for what? Move away from winning everything to high risk work harder to maybe win half as much over the next 2yrs??

He owes us nothing at all, doesn’t even owe us any gratitude or respect. But he is interested at the very least for talks to have happened - that is a hell of alot more than what most players who have achieved half of what he has, has done. We aren’t leaking anymore as a club and people are getting frustrated.

I get people are frustrated because they get excited about the prospect and want this to happen & nothing is coming from formal channels mixed with 1000 people guessing - but this is a massive decision for LM and his family which normally would take months & we are just 2 weeks in…

And that is what we should be pushing. Our point if difference. You have worked hard
And trained hard…come here and you can knock off first week of September. Sign for the tigers and you would be bloody unlucky to have to play week one of the finals.
In most other industries we work be a preferred employer. Paid well with extra holidays others don’t have
