i’m not sure how the salary cap works. But if there is a lot left in the cap for the tigers can they just use it to pay players currenlty on contract? so in future years we can use it to buy players?
Yes, and I think this is exactly what will happen. We also need to fill the roster spots though and I can see them being filled with development players
Apparently you cannot do that any longer!
You definitely can. I think some here are getting confused because you can no longer BACKend contracts.
if that’s possible (front end) then i can only see that as a positive. Sign away end of 2020 and 2021!
I agree with you and think that is what will happen, but the other side of that coin is we fill the rest of the roster for 2020 with cheap/development players and it could be seen as sacrificing 2020 for future years.
Sacrificing 2020 is unacceptable imo. Not good enough and questions should be asked.
im ok with it mate. tanking for future success!
Ermmmmm…what is the point of tanking if there isn’t a draft ???
And how are we tanking? Our roster isn’t markedly worse than last season although Matterson’s loss will need to be filled by development by a mystery player at this stage. Unless we tanked last season??
Pascoe rates AJ. If latrell decides on Souths and AJ is made available Pascoe will sign him
Surely it should be who Madge rates not Pascoe
Be surprised how little the HC is involved in those decisions with new signings and cap management
That’s not even remotely close to the truth. Madge is directly involved & very selective on both new signings & re-signings. Gets advice on up & coming talent from scouts which he’s also closely involved with.
Every club differs. Madge doesn’t decide the numbers and terms.
He is consulted on value/worth & term of the deal. He’s hands on with roster management.
He literally has no say on value and worth. If he likes a player the club will attempt to get them.
How can a HEAD COACH not have not have any input on what a player is worth to his team & $$ on the cap.
1st you said he had next to nothing to do with recruitment.
We appreciate your input here Pom.
Just ignore Wokespoke and whatever ‘personality’ smoking gun is today. It is rather obvious he makes it up, contradicts himself literally every third post…you don’t need to waste time explaining yourself to him mate.
How many rugby league club clubs have any of you worked directly for. I’m at 4. I might know a thing or 2 about internal structure
I’ve worked for six and a half. I’d say your internal structures are wobbling again.
So did mitchell actually have a meeting with us today or was it just all rumours with no spark?
First up in the morning
Was it a positive meeting?
He doesn’t know, it’s smoking gun stirring everyone again.
Wrong. I liased with mr Pascoe this morning as previously stated. He is 50/50 on how it will go. End of the day, when it comes time to put pen to paper if he can forgo close to 1 million dollars over a
4 year period then that’s on him.
He can either follow in footsteps at Souths or create his own footsteps at the tigers.
No one really knows the character of the man.
I am in no way associated with this smoking gun person
I don’t understand why you are being associated with this Mr Smoking Gun and his successors on this forum. It’s as plain as the nose on your face that you are far too polite and civil to be these other people. The way you conduct yourself with your manners and insightful information makes you a credit to this forum. If anything I think you could be related to another forum member Magpies1963, perhaps the product of a illicit night of passion at the Chullora or Bass Hill drive-in.
Incredible work. So, smokinggun, Magpies1963, woke smoke and coivtny are all the same user. Kudos.
Yes Justin …those 4-5 options @ 9 measure up so well against the player they are replacing
Justin will be the member for Balmain next election …he is so good a feeding the fungi
Explain why he would be a member for Balmain And not just a forum member like you?
Because he has the political speak down pat
We have 4-5 candidates for the hooker spot
None are worth diddly squat and will be playing out of position ( bar the one who keeps getting injured ) , but they are candidates
That is the problem , we have been become so conditioned to mediocrity and believed so much garbage that has come from one CEO to the next and so on and so forth , and every coach from so on and so forth , and one chairperson to the next and so on and so forth
But the worst thing is this …we tell them what we want …one home ground …competitive footy side …a board that is not chosen to represent our past entities …one that is chosen to use their respective strengths to help us move forward both on and off field
I don’t support this club to see sound corporate governance ( don’t get me wrong , it’s nice to be breaking even ) but we need to start moving upwards on field and really it’s starting to go backwards
Time flies. We got the independant board in 2014, Pascoe in 2015 and Wests took 75% ownership in 2016.
We should be well and truly seeing results by now.
As far as breaking even goes, did that coincide with the NRL grant increasing to 125% of the salary cap?
But the thing that gets me the most is you see posters on the Forum who obviously have a firm grasp of football and what is going on at the club constantly blame anyone and everyone bar the people they should be blaming …the decision makers across the board at the club
Its almost like they think if they admit the club is at fault that they as supporters are at fault …or they can’t admit the club is at fault or that would be the beginning of the end as a supporter
We also rarely see anyone that blame the board have anything more constructive to say than “fire the board”. Yeah, like that’s just going to magically fix the problem.
We need to start again from scratch …make the tough decisions we should have made from Day 1
Having a board that is accountable to the members is a must for starters
I’d even be prepared to make some really radical decisions to roll the entire roster over
Set 2022 as the season for example , have no current players on the roster (bar the 3-4 you would keep ) signed past then and roll the whole roster over and start again if needs be
People may complain about losing our history , this clubs 8 year history isn’t worth keeping or remembering
Fair call. You don’t think the hard decisions are being made by Madge though?
Certainly the home ground issue needs fixing in the next 5 years.
was at an NBL game last year
I’ll stop you there. How are the Singapore Slingers doing?
About as well as the Adelaide Rams and Western Reds and nowhere near as well as the Sydney Kings whose average crowd is dangerously close to that of an average NRL crowd.
