Reckon James still has good footy in him.
Just needs a decent pass to run on to.
Wests Tigers back-rower Alex Seyfarth has avoided any serious damage to the knee injury he only just returned from in round 24 but will miss the battle against Canterbury.
Good to hear no major aggrevation.
And also good to hear this guy seems hungry to wanted to play in what is a nothing game.
Wish we had more like him.
The board of us.
If Brains were dynamite that Board wouldn’t have enough to blow there ears off
That’s pretty unfair really all jokes aside.
Think Rick Wayde who saved Wests as an administrator in the 80s mortgaging his house to fund the court cases against the League.
A couple of years ago, I attended the extraordinary meeting as a full voting member where by Wests would take over the Balmain leagues. I mean really a lot of emotion and these directors and the late Mike Bailey were actually quite sensitive to preserve Balmains identity in the JV and one could sense they were not happy Balmain didn’t continue as a paying member and were mindful of not allowing a third party to interfere.
One thing for sure they love the club and are hell bent on protecting our connection to it whether we are WT, Wests or Balmain fans. That’s all we have left really hence this passion.
What else could they have done differently lately. At the time Maguire was the best available high profile coach.
Imagine if we sacked Maguire as the media seemed to want. Can only imagine the vitriol would have been worse
Sound like the Board ebbed and flowed before finally making a decision
I just think the media ebbed and flowed because they couldn’t connect the dots and much of what was reported was a fantasy.
I just watched NRL360 and the line that said it all for me was when Paul Kent said.
“Look, I don’t know what’s going on there”
The club didn’t backflip, the only people to backflip were some in the media when the facts didn’t match their frame.
Amusing to see the media get done like that.
This is a results business……Madge is gone……will be announced after they lock down his replacement next week or the week after the latest….
There’s no doubt when I listen to Flanagan it’s reminiscent of hearing Cleary speak on Fox before he got the job with us, you know that type of sounding like he respects the players, respects the coach, thinks they can do better no real bagging.
I’m torn by this, feel for Madge think he genuinely likes our club and wouldn’t shaft us like others. The players put in one week and not the next so it’s weird.
But one thing really obvious to me is our team is devoid of teamwork in attack that has to come down to preparation or lack of.
Anyone else also noticed Dwyer in coaches box when cameras are on them almost looks embarrassed for Madge. Really depressing.
One thing for sure is that Sheens, after being away 10 years, life member and all with this COVID thing keeping him from coming I reckon he’ll be able to tell in a few hours whats wrong .
Looking at Brisbane a few weeks ago and their players being more of a rabble than ours and I must admit, I didn’t see it coming but as soon as Iken went up there all of a sudden the players are putting their bodies on the line for Kevie.
I’m thinking this will be amplified for Sheens. We were unlucky that the Magpies couldn’t play and Sheens couldn’t come out earlier.
The players will never have it as easy again.
I’d look no further than the Wests Magpies coach. What he achieved with a relatively lightweight side which didn’t have the highest completion rate shows that he certainly has the players wanting to play for the club and secondly seems to have adapted a playing style to suit momentum shifts with quick counter attacks aka Seibold at South’s.
Looks good from a pathways perspective also.
One thing for sure for me is the WT are very clunky in attack even though we score points, somehow we don’t tire teams out and they seem full of energy when they have the ball.
Looking at it at a squad perspective we are losing Mybe and Walters who both cover halves and hooker and are bringing in Hastings and Taylor (rumoured).
Based off ability and likely salaries I’d say we would be making an upgrade.
When the GC were going well during middle of the year Taylor was playing well. At a good price we have little to loose
Haven’t given up on the jet.
Not so long ago I thought he was one of the premier genuine centres out there.
He might only be one good ball away from getting his mojo back and becoming a cult figure. Waited all last year to see him run onto a good pass but he never got one.
Worth the risk.
What we do have is a crisis in Far Western NSW now! 12% of the indigenous community of Wilcannia is Covid positive. Less than 10% of indigenous people vaccinated.
This isn’t that land I thought it would be, it’s not so equal and not so free.
Indigenous people especially in remote locations should have been offered first choice in vaccination as well as sanitizer etc as a mark of respect and for health reasons.
NZ got that right with their outlook with this virus from the beginning after the horror death rate amongst Maori during Spanish flu.
Measures will need to be taken still to stop the hospitals from collapsing. We will have a lot more freedom again once vaccinations are in the targets we need them to be. Yeah we’ll probably still need to wear masks and keep sanitising more than we once did but small price to pay to be able to jump on a plane or have a beer.
I don’t want to be sick (from any cause, but particularly from one that might kill me) and I don’t want to be passing sickness on to others. I feel like it’s about taking every opportunity to lower the risk.
I’m really looking forward to lockdowns ending, but when they do I’ll be happy to be fully vaccinated (I already am), to have booster shots if necessary, to wear a mask in public places and to sanitise my hands. I don’t see these things as curtailing my freedom. Doing these things is just playing the percentages in my favour to stay well and to help keep those around me free from illness. I feel fortunate to have good health advice to steer me away from poor choices.
I really struggle to get my head around the thought processes of people who see those measures as an attack on their freedoms.
Agree with all these points and sincerely hope my posts were not misconstrued as being insensitive . First and foremost people’s lives and health are paramount.
I don’t think of it as an attack on my freedoms ,initially last year while taking massive financial hits for which I received nothing because I didn’t qualify while others got paid to do nothing and other businesses ramped up sales while receiving government support and houses were allowed to appreciate 20% even while businesses where precluded from trading and others from working, and newly single again was looking forward to get out and have a good time and maybe meet someone and rebuild my life. Even so, I was happy to do my bit in the lockdown because ostensibly there was no treatment or vaccine, can’t let people go like that.
But now with vaccines and 2 years on my frustration is brewing. My first post on the matter were twisted as being a conspiracy theorist (some conspiracies do exist everywhere) and anti vax while I was was just highlighting my disappointment that sadly things weren’t working well enough to allow for a resumption of normal activity and in my case the commencement of my rebuild.
I guess at every level things should have been handled better.
I think this will be a poor decision. There isn’t enough talent to sustain 16 competitive teams as it is.
There is enough talent to sustain 16 teams and still have a decent, competitive comp if the talent was spread evenly and teams were policed more stringently as far as payments outside the salary cap go IMO.
Actually 90s football was top notch and we had no trouble sustaining 20 teams with a smaller population.
There were quite a few teams in the 20-team comp that were atrocious though. Wests being one.
I don’t agree with that. Wests were in and around finals 95, 96, 97 and during those years crowds and ratings were superb. I certainly preferred the style. It was only in 98 and 99 that Wests and Balmain were atrocious because it was known they were gone and nobody wanted to go there because of super league.
It was more skillful imo as teamwork goes but as barra mentioned the rule changes have changed physicality requirements.
The real problem is the rules imo.
