There. are two good articles one on 9 and the other news about the developing cruise ship story in WA. One ship with mostly Germans aboard has a reported 70 passengers with the virus. Since the demographic is toward elderly and the plan to fly them home appears no longer feasible, what happens? This situation could overwhelm available ICU facilities in WA. I suggest the Germans arrange medevac flights home.

A third story confirms the cruise industry is in trouble and the filthy conditions found by new Australian passengers aboard a ship.

I don’t think medevac flights have that kind of range, or anything close to it. Resources are going to be stretched across the globe. They’re people and they’re here so we should just help them and forget about nationality.

The German government will arrange and pay to get them home, same as our government is doing for our citizens.
On another note - considering the number of pandemics to hit the world it’s amazing how every travel insurer has a clause that gets it out of paying anything to people who had tours cancelled or had to pay for extra flights.

Insurers are vultures … happy to take your money but when it comes to payouts they hide under rocks.
I cancelled my South America trip in July and have no claims to make as final payments not been processed and suppliers have either refunded or issued future travel credits.
My insurer backsliding on premium cover refund.

So I’m hearing a few contrary reports re. Wests Tigers’ security as a club.

On one hand, we’re mentioned as one of the more vulnerable clubs. That this crisis may cause us to fold or have to relocate.
On the other hand, I hear we are one of the few clubs that has made a profit in recent years, that we haven’t stood down employees and that we are in safe hands.

Which is it? Or does nobody really know? And how do we stand compared to other clubs?

50:50 call … like most things nowadays.
And that applies to all clubs. No one is safe in my opinion.

@GNR4LIFE said in Johns calls for NRL to let weakest clubs die:

Funny how he doesn’t have the guts to name the clubs who he thinks need to die. I read somewhere last night, clubs most vulnerable are clubs who rely on handouts from the NRL. One of those clubs is the one where he’s currently employed as a halves coach. I agree, let them die Joey.

He’s a Trump clone.
Takes himself seriously but nobody else should.

China Being Sued for 20 Trill

US probably just looking for cash to pay off their debts.

Don’t blame them to be honest. If China withheld it from the world and allowed diseased citizens to leave the country, there should be certainly some sort of reparations.

I have to agree CB,if someone does an injustice to someone else they can litigate or sue for compensation…Not turning this into a China hate thread …only pointing out that on a global scale they also have a duty of care to their own people and to people who visit their country…I would say in a normal court of law they could be found negligent and in breach of their duty of care,

Can I ask this …

How would they have known early on it was any different from any flu season

It is quite similar in many ways …with the amount of people coming and going from China by the time they knew it was too late

Haters got to hate I guess

Happy, the CCP arrested and detained the doctors who first reported this as a new virus. The CCP broke into the research lab that first identified the virus as a new virus and destroyed the vials (Sun Yang style) (Source Washington Post & London Times). In december the CCP officially notified the WHO that there were no human to human cases.

Thank you!

If people want to read a CCP propaganda mill, may I suggest moving themselves over to the Beijing Daily or similar state run publications. You can swallow all the lies you can handle over there.

What about the Spanish Flu …it started in Kansas and killed somewhere between 25 000 000 and 40 000 000

Did the rest of the world take action v the USA

Have the Americans taken ownership or paid any reparations …

Oh that’s right … this country is Red …

Stop living in the past mate …

I’m not …I just get so sick of Americans living above the rest of the world

As I say America seems a beautiful place …just a shame so many Americans live there

Have you been to America?

Overall, they’re a pretty friendly bunch of people.

Just the twits I’ve dealt with here

No hurry to get there either

The only decent Americans I have met are in the Armed Forces …general public I rate the Yanks with the French as aloof assholes

And don’t disagree with the comments in how some Australians behave either overseas

Met many in business and private lives … found them no different to any other nationalities. Good and bad take your pick.
Pigeonhole comment as far as I’m concerned anyway.

I am hopeful this virus kills off useless clubs like the Titans. I can’t think of a club that has ever had less history or significance.

They are probably thinking the same about us.

the new comp or nrl etc need to be careful they dont do too much damage in sydney re teams. Still know lots of north sydney bears supporters that gave up on league and went to afl when they went.
Maybe they can convince saints to move to woolongong permantently and play 1 or two a year at kogarah.
We have already merged so i dont think it is right we put our hands up again, they wont want to lose the emblem so i think we survive as we represent inner west and also campbletown etc.
Also hoping wests ashfield and Harry T can work out something to assist us along with Brydens.
Dogs have a huge leagues club but represent a small area if we have long shuydowns they might struggle
Roosters well no juniors or crowds if they didnt have Politis they would be stuffed and gone for sure.
Souths a bit like roosters but have a following and russel crowe so may be ok
Penrith huge leagues club they must be bleeding money if it is a long hiatus
Parramatta in the same boat leagues club but no huge backers i think they may struggle.
Potential merge parra and penrith to Parramatta panthers
Kick out the warriors
Manly look in trouble with the Penn family i mean at some point they will likely sell
interesting times ahead although deep down i think now afl and nrl has shut game when needed the government will kick in sone cash, closing the games makes a shutdown seem real now.
If we had Keating and his love of antique clocks or Bob Carr and his love of the arts we as a game might struggle.
Also we need to work out how we can get some of the government stadium grant for ANZ redistributed to assist the nrl when we are back and running it can help prop up the comp

Penn would have sold out ages ago if he could have found a buyer.Manly will be very hard pressed to get a buyer now even at rock bottom prices,if i was a manly supporter i would be very concerned about their future.Quite possibly the first club to go

It will be a Super league type scenario and what that will mean is who ever buys the game will add clubs that they want and startup clubs in an area they like .
You see in 6 months time most of the Sydney clubs will be bankrupt and unlike the super league war no one will have an option! There will be no competition this year … the Olympics are gone for gods sake ! Rugby league is now a Tv sport that corporations will own what the game was will no longer exsist!

Well that’s bleak.

On the flip side, comp could start up in 5 months with a shortened 2020 tournament. Each team plays 2 games a week over 5 rounds, finals to follow. Season 2021 starts are normal but the game now has a new fan base and existing fans have a deeper appreciation of the game now they know life without it. Memberships skyrocket, attendances are through the roof and its the start of a golden era for rugba leeg.

Also, parra fold.

Mate … you’re just dreaming.

@GNR4LIFE said in NRL tells clubs season must restart by September:

Just can it for the year. Assuming it’s safe to start next March, clubs will recoup money. Round 1 will be a sell out across the board, and memberships will go through the roof.

I think most conservative estimate to be made on the current situation is that IF the medical fraternity can find abs successfully test a vaccine … that may take up to 12 months. Then to distribute and successfully implement will take time … so! Any person or organization which is planning things short term … are bloody dreaming!
