I know it’s wishful thinking but if the club can get Packer medically retired we should be going hard after Fifita and Frizell. We need some difference makers. Our team is solid but lacks punch.

If you’re talking about Brisbane Fifita, then yes absolutely.

Still need a quick winger though.

Young bloke in the Flegg ran 90m to score on the weekend can’t remember the last player for WT’S to run that far to score

Scolari is underwhelming after all the hype about him. Another tiny winger, and not that fast.

What a stupid comment! I watched the game on the live stream and you only had to listen to the commentators after he wasn’t passed the ball with line wide open not once but TWICE (one by a development player the second time mind you) and could not get the ball. If you watched the tape he only touched the ball from a high ball which he took well. Almost saved a try when he flipped Naden over on the try line after Talau went down on the short side. He basically had only 18 minutes on the field when Panthers had 90% of the ball with penalties so how you could say he was slow is ridiculous. I also suggest you take a look at club stats and watch highlights from games from last year.

Dillon showed good speed - query over high ball - needs to work on that and his passing. Madden very good. Cini solid without being spectacular.

Give these kids a break - comments like that doesn’t help.

Westigerman pull your head in. Scolari would have scored twice if given the ball. He and the other really young players now know what level they need to get to for the NRL. I expect big improvements from them all as a result of this experience.

While the plan at the moment is to move Doueihi to 5/8 once Marshall retires, it wouldn’t surprise if Brooks moved to 5/8 to accommodate Madden at 1/2. Those doubters who really gave it to Madden now need to rethink their views.

I was at the game and I agree Madden looked good to me

Needs to work on his defence. He was having a go, but got bumped off regulalry.

I will say he will be in the NRL this year. Maguire obviously rates him and all he needs is the Brooks’ school of training to hit and stick. He is our next 7 with Brooks at 6 although what number you wear in the halves is irrelevant.

Hoffman and Scolari should be played as a combination either on the right or left in CC. Build up the pairing because I liked the way they chased through as a pair to get the drop out.

Dillon would learn a lot from that experience. From what I have read he is a dedicated trainer and I expect him to take it to another level in CC.

Hoffman isn’t even close to being ready for the NRL.
Talau showed why he needs a season playing for the Magpies. His poor decision making in defence makes him a target in every game.

Explain why Hoffman isn’t ready?

What did Hoffman do?

Other than make an easy try look really difficult and make some pretty tame hit ups. Neither Cini or Hoffman will be pushing the Nofo/Jennings/Thompson wing battle.

For a first time NRL match he demonstrated that he was at that level. Scored a try and looked solid in defence. Obviously he played out of position because he is a centre but did well. I have doubts both our first string wingers could have got to the line.

Surprised there’s no discussion on this match which was undoubtedly the highlight of the day.
The front row was extremely dominant. Simpkins was superb. Lui was a monster. Mavoni was very strong.

While we had our starting side in the field we were in control. They scored a few tries as we mixed up our roster a lot.
Rizk scored a great length of the field solo effort. Simpkins with a try and 2 assists. Stevanovic controlled the game well. The outside backs all looked strong and fast.
Logan Muir on the bench looked like a Carl Webb monster on the bench. Sykes was excellent in attack and defence.

Considering the amount of talent to drop back from the nrl trial things are looking very promising for our hopes in Flegg this season

Good to know our wingers can go the 100 and also we have our local juniors playing well.

I was really disappointed with Cini. Very poor defensive reads. As a smokie, I wouldn’t be surprised if Reece Hoffman really challenges Talau for a future Centre position. He looks good.

Hoffman to centre, he looks like he is ready. On Cini, he is a centre and is elusive but he is not a winger. I don’t know why WTs has this perchance for attempting to turn centres into wingers. Cini needs to work hard on his defence because his future is centre, not wing.

I only caught about 15 mins of the 1st half sounds like a blessing, Walters looked ok in dummy half Musgrove was aggressive and powerful any other positives?
And what I saw of Reynolds was gash seems like he didn’t improve on that.

You named it bra.

Douhei was great.
Matheson Johns looks a good prospect and punched on…

What you said and that’s all really

Johns looked a bit one dimensional. He is a strong runner, quick enough but needs to be able to set up his winger.

Johns, Musgrove & Hoffman were positives.

Reynolds was awful.

Some of the other gun youngstars (Seyfarth, Dillon, Cini, Madden) do not look like they are anywhere near ready for first grade.

Next week will be interesting, hopefully it will be a much better performance than this

Agree.except for Madden. If multiple injuries strike I’d have him in before Reynolds

Top four halves are Brooks, Marshall, Walters and Madden.

Seyfarth will be in the NRL soon.

Madden’s organising and kicking, especially winning repeat sets was impressive.
