RE: Signing Suggestions & Rumours
It all comes down to the cap. Hindsight is a wonderful thing we have overpaid to become a mid table team with an ageing forward pack likely to decline. The deals were too long also Reynolds, Packer, Matulino, ET should have been 2 year deals.
This is the issue isn’t it. We need these guys either performing or at other clubs but no one will take them because we overpaid.
I don’t know how you can turn it around other than do what the club has done recently and re-sign the right players while looking to bring on more of the players that we require at the club.
Zac Cini, Tommy Talau, Jock Madden, Dylan Smith, Kane Bradley. 3-4 out of the group and becoming great players is the key. Signing a Matterson type player every year will assist until Madge can reshape the roster. The ESL will be the only way out I feel for the older non performers.
We are good a bringing young talent to the NRL. This is what we have done well in the past. Maguire needs to get a team of top assistants/development specialists to accelerate their development to make the best use of our good junior recruitment.
RE: Signing Suggestions & Rumours
Moses re-signs with eels. $2.5m for 3 years
Good. They can keep the slime.
The club assembled an outstanding array of talent in Woods, Tedesco, Moses and Brooks. When you look back on it, we were naïve to believe other clubs and player managers would allow one of the less influential clubs to retain players of this calibre on their roster. It is this disassembling of talent at a less influential club which highlights the disparity between the haves and the have nots.
RE: Junior Reps 2019
Cini is an impressive player, always dangerous with the ball and usually figuring on the score sheet, Scolari is a pacey winger and WIlson must have a bit of pace as well. We have some prospects but we really need to work hard to bring them through on an accelerated programme.
RE: What a poorly coached team
I wonder if all this talk of players being shopped around and everyone on notice has the players spooked. They were a rabble and nothing like the side that started the season. Maybe a few players have already given up knowing that their days here are numbered.
I’m sure this talk around some of the players getting shopped around would bring morale down, and that’s what we saw last night- shoulders dropped=couldn’t care less attitude
Wouldn’t it be good if just for one season we could have no negative talk around players/coaching problems and start winning a few games instead of this garbage.
I noticed some of the dropped shoulders on some of the poor WT’s fans at the match last night, poor sots having to sit there and watch that poor showing from our team
2-3 players from last nights match have apparently been put on notice (Nofo, Matulino and Mbye). To me, Mbye played no better or worse than he has all year, Nofo was one of our best, while mats was disappointing.
No excuses for that.
Wow, I didnt even notice Matulino was playing. I wondered wh
Disagree with everyone in this thread. He is an above average club footballer, but he is nowhere near origin.
I like him, think he is good, but I think hes heavily overrated by this supporters group.
Does any one not agree that if he was available to QLD he would already be playing? Remember it was the tough and aggressive QLD defence after half time which really won them the game. That is made for Twal.
RE: Imagine we had a good team
We need to buy a couple of players but the answers are in the lower grades. Olvier Clark must come in straight away. As I said yesterday, the club needs to work hard to get these young players ready and into the NRL.
There had been a steady decline in the recruitment and retention of the best junior talent. This has been addressed in the last two years with Smith, McIntyre, Seyfarth, Talau, Bradley, Cini, Madden and Dillon all signing. We need a continuation of the recruitment of the best junior rep talent and an aggressive retention policy to make sure they stay. I give Dave Warwick credit for this turnaround.
Years ago it was clear Korobeite was the winger we needed to keep. A strong and very fast winger will always out perform a strong and slow winger. Why could our club not see thatt? Why did JAC walk? Why Pappenhuyzen? We always produce good young players and we need to play to our strength. Buying past it big names doesn’t work for us.
RE: Mbye future clouded after Wests Tigers bench demotion
Corey Thompson is gonna have to play alot better to claim that FB role. He’s a plucky fellow but he was found out several times tonight. Mbye oft maligned but Corey’s performance did nothing to answer questions about our best FB.
Moses I thought was ok at centre - he certainly sticks im defence.
Perhaps both just biding time until DWZ.
Our best fullback is our injured CC player, Dylan Smith. We need to bet him back on the field and into the NRL. Bradley and Talau as well.
