    • RE: Confirmed: Matterson released from Wests Tigers.

@MAGPIES1963 said in Matterson unhappy at Tigers?:

G’day @WT2K: how do you know what you are saying “but won’t tell Maguire to his face” to be true?

He was our equal best player along with Luke Brooks. We/I thought of him as Captain material next year… and he certainly didn’t put up a disgusting non-display like Moses did before he was basically…sacked.

If a player is ‘genuinely’ unhappy playing for us, what is the point in keeping him?

Is Maguire the reason he wants out?.. Cleary was the coach he came to play under, so maybe there is a personality clash between Matterson and Maguire?

Is $$$ the reason he wants out?..IMO Matterson is worth more than we are reported to be paying him… so maybe Wests Tigers aren’t smart enough or professional enough to work out a deal to keep him at our club?

Quite honestly…I can’t believe the amount of rubbish that so many of our forumers are saying about him.

Maybe this sort of attitude has spread further than our forum into other parts of the club…and is the reason he doesn’t want to be here any longer’?

Let the bloke go in peace…with his dignity intact and Wests Tigers dignity intact as well. That way he may be able to go to his next club and say 'I wasn’t happy there, but Yuh know what…“Wests Tigers are a good club”.

We all win that way…don’t we?

No - we lose a very good player who was signed for another two years.

Therefore - player wins, new club wins - we lose.

      Compensation is an absolute must.

Totally disagree with everything you said, absolutely everything.

You are only guessing like we all would who is responsible - it is all now in the past.

We have discussed this over and over again, and you are bringing up the same thing again.

Maybe you could start a thread that is a positive spin on the club.

The dogs just offer players 100k+ more than they are worth, we have come out and said we will not be paying overs anymore which will shoot us in the foot a couple times.

Because we have been burnt in the past… We just need to pick better and we have the staff now to do this unlike Cleary’s recruitment.
need to get the first one over the line and if that means an extra 100k then so be it… Make it happen

It is not just that. Barret is “a player’s coach”. The Turbo bros love him and player’s talk. A lot of coaches like Cleary and Barret treat each player differently.

Madge is one way…10000% and intense.

That works for Bellamy as you get grand finals and glory.

But not many people want that intensity. Madge will only attract a certain type of player…and that means we need to be patient. LL, AD want Madge’s style, but not everyone does. Bennet gives blokes a week off…everyone is his best mate…

Do you know any of this to be true directly, or all hearsay? I’m not a fan of making grand statements about the personalities of people you’ve never met, nor even had second-hand information about.

Benji said it on 360…I am presuming he knows what he is talking about.

“From a guy like Madge (Maguire) who only knows one way of, ‘we’re going to train as hard as we can, we’re going to get as fit as we can and it doesn’t matter what it takes to get to that, we’re going to build mental toughness’… and I really enjoyed that,” the New Zealand star added.
"But I think what’s happened now is the generation has changed where I think the kids are a little bit different these days where individually people need different types of training, or different types of understanding.
"Some people don’t handle tough love, and understanding that is probably the biggest challenge that Madge is going to have for next year."

Seems its not just the young players that need special attention and lots of hugs. Looks more like Benji didnt get enough love and is having a shot at the guy who got rid of him.

Glad he is gone, cant move on with players like that.

Mate if you think Maguire is the saviour you’re kidding.
Look at his last 4 years as an nrl coach unable to get a team into the 4 took a team that finished 9th in 18 and 19 to 11th in 2020. It seems he will not adapt to modern day football,he’s inability to adapt and listen is why he had a player revolt at Souths. He’s record last 4 seasons is poor

A lot of people have said the same thing about Saviours, they don’t believe in them until they are not there anymore.

I thought better of you Goanna to not fall into the trap of looking at figures instead of the real picture. You know why we haven’t got into the top four as well as most of us. A below average team for past two years, a totally overspent cap to contend with, a few precious players who do not want to work for there payments and a bad culture that needs changing. It is a slow process which impatient people do not want to be part of - they want a magic wand for Madge to wave and suddenly we are in the GF. It doesn’t work that way and I would have thought you of all people would realise this. I know we all would like to flick our fingers and presto there we are but it took many years to dig the hole we are in and it is far to deep to jump out of - we have to cut steps and slowly climb out…Madge is cutting those steps!

As for the player revolt at Souffs - don’t think so. He was whiteanted out of that club because Seibold wanted his job. The next year he did not coach, so hardly would be able to get a team in a four.

It is some of the players in our team that will not adapt (not Madge) and he is slowly getting rid of the dead wood, unfortunately we had enough of that, to build a small boat. The Scumbag from the Pamfers did a lot of damage and it won’t be fixed overnight.

Give him a go Mate - May not be the Saviour but he is not a “very naughty Boy” either - just a good coach.

      @rex2ce said in “Fortress Leichhardt:

One of the first things we should do in 2020 is to get rid of the “Fortress Leichhardt “ mentality, from a Wests Tigers point of view ,it should be renamed “Fortress Chokehardt”, no home ground advantage at all.

That has nothing to do with the ground or the crowds.

It is however to do with our roster, the teams “will to win” the referees that do not give calls to the home team, like they do at other grounds.

Blaming Leichhardt Oval is a very poor excuse for losing.

Everyone wants to play these young blokes, then are surprised when they make errors.

Young blokes take time, fact of life. They have to learn in the NRL not cc or sitting in the stand.

Not sure I am seeing that this question is even being asked.

He scored two tries from two of the best individual efforts for the club this year and people are saying he cost us the game.

He is a second string kicker, playing out of position (he is a centre not a winger) and a player that more than half the Forum a few weeks ago described him as a plodder and not up to first grade standard.

For those that said that and are now saying or going to say this - you can’t have it both ways.

Think Momo did the right thing. If you can’t get a good pass away to someone in a better position. TAKE THE TACKLE!

He did and we scored soon after.

That is called having a football brain.

Seriously, there is not a half in the world that would have looked good in the Tigers side last year.We had forwards who had little forward momentum and soft in defence.JA was our best and he was ok but not anything special. Our backline was lacking penetration and was slow.We had no fullback,no goalkicker, and a bunch of guys who would be lucky to survive in the CC comp, who we kept moving around on the hope they might make some impact.

I disagree so if the forwards were that bad last season … why was Grant such a sensation ? You either have the the goods or not that is as simple as it gets . Yes a stronger pack makes a 7’s job easier but a 7 that has the goods will always stand out ! This rubbish about the forward pack is just falsely

Grant played with the same so called dud forwards that Brooks played with. Grant looked like a champ … Brooks well you either have it or you don’t!
The champs stand out whether there playing with champs or chumps that’s always been the way .

They played with the same dud forwards - yes.

      But Grant wasn’t playing half.

He did when Liddle came off the bench …

I thought he played lock ???

Well he did …but he was playing in the 1st receiver role

That doesn’t count as half in my book.

But he didn’t pack in at lock either…silly argument Russ

      Maybe there were no scrums.

Well the fullback or hooker usually pack at lock in attacking scrums …that was my point …the 80’s were a long time ago

Right so the FB and Hooker were not locks, the first receiver wasn’t a half or 5/8 …

You pick the team now by just throwing random jumpers at players as they run out.

      Great idea Lol.

Wow, we’re going back to 2018 to find a decent Mbye game. Says it all.

He had a couple last year. Again, he rarely stands out and ain’t worth his money but he can have some good games.

A couple of good games a year for 800k + is nowhere near good enough.

Brooks has more than that for 600k and gets crucified.

      Not fair, Not fair.

Exactly…Brooks gets absolutely hammered from pillar to post and he has actually had quite a few memorable performances for us.

Unfortunately I don’t think it’ll ever change…even if we make the 8, people love to hate on the kid

I’ll be happy if Brooks just gets rid of his dummy and run straight into the opposition play. That would be a vast improvement on 2020 to start with.

Having a few people run with him would help - then if he elects not to pass but run himself, puts the opposition in two minds - they hold off for a split second and he is through.

No one runs with him, like in 2020 - he gets crunched and goes nowhere.

Don’t think Mbye and quality should be used in the same sentence myself.

You would play him at 14 on sufferance only - we have better players in the positions he covers.
Momo at centre, Simpkins at DH, Talau at 5/8. By default at this stage he is the best FB until Laurie gets here.

Unfortunately he is the only one that can cover all 4 spots, not better individually but better as a package. That’s not great but the best we can do - heaven help us.
