@MAGPIES1963 said in Matterson unhappy at Tigers?:

G’day @WT2K: how do you know what you are saying “but won’t tell Maguire to his face” to be true?

He was our equal best player along with Luke Brooks. We/I thought of him as Captain material next year… and he certainly didn’t put up a disgusting non-display like Moses did before he was basically…sacked.

If a player is ‘genuinely’ unhappy playing for us, what is the point in keeping him?

Is Maguire the reason he wants out?.. Cleary was the coach he came to play under, so maybe there is a personality clash between Matterson and Maguire?

Is $$$ the reason he wants out?..IMO Matterson is worth more than we are reported to be paying him… so maybe Wests Tigers aren’t smart enough or professional enough to work out a deal to keep him at our club?

Quite honestly…I can’t believe the amount of rubbish that so many of our forumers are saying about him.

Maybe this sort of attitude has spread further than our forum into other parts of the club…and is the reason he doesn’t want to be here any longer’?

Let the bloke go in peace…with his dignity intact and Wests Tigers dignity intact as well. That way he may be able to go to his next club and say 'I wasn’t happy there, but Yuh know what…“Wests Tigers are a good club”.

We all win that way…don’t we?

No - we lose a very good player who was signed for another two years.

Therefore - player wins, new club wins - we lose.

      Compensation is an absolute must.

Totally disagree with everything you said, absolutely everything.

You are only guessing like we all would who is responsible - it is all now in the past.

We have discussed this over and over again, and you are bringing up the same thing again.

Maybe you could start a thread that is a positive spin on the club.

I guess he is not planning on coming back?

“The standard at the Riff is a lot higher than what I’m used to, to be fair, but it’s exciting,” Eisenhuth told NRL.com.

Maybe he should have added that the “Tigers required a higher standard than I was producing, so they let me go”

The vibe at the Tigers was no more nuffies - so I guess I just didn’t fit in any more.

      @rex2ce said in “Fortress Leichhardt:

One of the first things we should do in 2020 is to get rid of the “Fortress Leichhardt “ mentality, from a Wests Tigers point of view ,it should be renamed “Fortress Chokehardt”, no home ground advantage at all.

That has nothing to do with the ground or the crowds.

It is however to do with our roster, the teams “will to win” the referees that do not give calls to the home team, like they do at other grounds.

Blaming Leichhardt Oval is a very poor excuse for losing.

The dogs just offer players 100k+ more than they are worth, we have come out and said we will not be paying overs anymore which will shoot us in the foot a couple times.

Because we have been burnt in the past… We just need to pick better and we have the staff now to do this unlike Cleary’s recruitment.
need to get the first one over the line and if that means an extra 100k then so be it… Make it happen

It is not just that. Barret is “a player’s coach”. The Turbo bros love him and player’s talk. A lot of coaches like Cleary and Barret treat each player differently.

Madge is one way…10000% and intense.

That works for Bellamy as you get grand finals and glory.

But not many people want that intensity. Madge will only attract a certain type of player…and that means we need to be patient. LL, AD want Madge’s style, but not everyone does. Bennet gives blokes a week off…everyone is his best mate…

Do you know any of this to be true directly, or all hearsay? I’m not a fan of making grand statements about the personalities of people you’ve never met, nor even had second-hand information about.

Benji said it on 360…I am presuming he knows what he is talking about.

“From a guy like Madge (Maguire) who only knows one way of, ‘we’re going to train as hard as we can, we’re going to get as fit as we can and it doesn’t matter what it takes to get to that, we’re going to build mental toughness’… and I really enjoyed that,” the New Zealand star added.
"But I think what’s happened now is the generation has changed where I think the kids are a little bit different these days where individually people need different types of training, or different types of understanding.
"Some people don’t handle tough love, and understanding that is probably the biggest challenge that Madge is going to have for next year."

Seems its not just the young players that need special attention and lots of hugs. Looks more like Benji didnt get enough love and is having a shot at the guy who got rid of him.

Glad he is gone, cant move on with players like that.

Mate if you think Maguire is the saviour you’re kidding.
Look at his last 4 years as an nrl coach unable to get a team into the 4 took a team that finished 9th in 18 and 19 to 11th in 2020. It seems he will not adapt to modern day football,he’s inability to adapt and listen is why he had a player revolt at Souths. He’s record last 4 seasons is poor

A lot of people have said the same thing about Saviours, they don’t believe in them until they are not there anymore.

I thought better of you Goanna to not fall into the trap of looking at figures instead of the real picture. You know why we haven’t got into the top four as well as most of us. A below average team for past two years, a totally overspent cap to contend with, a few precious players who do not want to work for there payments and a bad culture that needs changing. It is a slow process which impatient people do not want to be part of - they want a magic wand for Madge to wave and suddenly we are in the GF. It doesn’t work that way and I would have thought you of all people would realise this. I know we all would like to flick our fingers and presto there we are but it took many years to dig the hole we are in and it is far to deep to jump out of - we have to cut steps and slowly climb out…Madge is cutting those steps!

As for the player revolt at Souffs - don’t think so. He was whiteanted out of that club because Seibold wanted his job. The next year he did not coach, so hardly would be able to get a team in a four.

It is some of the players in our team that will not adapt (not Madge) and he is slowly getting rid of the dead wood, unfortunately we had enough of that, to build a small boat. The Scumbag from the Pamfers did a lot of damage and it won’t be fixed overnight.

Give him a go Mate - May not be the Saviour but he is not a “very naughty Boy” either - just a good coach.

      1. kepoea played a solid game except for those 2 mistakes. He’s 3rd highest in our team for Meters per game. He does a lot of important carries out of trouble that goes unnoticed. Also playing with an injured knee. He will only get better with more games.

So over this take. I don’t care if his early set carries are good if he drops the ball every time it goes to him on the wing. He was so close to literally handing the game to the Knights on Sunday

If you think he dropped the ball every time it was passed to him, you didn’t watch the game. I finished watching it for the second time last night and I think he dropped it twice - once the pass was almost behind him. Someone else said, every time he kicks it out - how many times has he kicked it. On second viewing I thought he was no where near as bad as people are making out on here. Not making excuses but he has potential and is improving every game. Remember he is not a winger (he is a centre come FB) but he is better than anyone else we have to put there. The people on here wanting to put Mbye in the centre, Talau on the wing are basically wanting this to be able to put Simpkin on the bench.

Too many want to make AJ the whipping Boy - even when we win.

Anyone have any idea what was wrong with Morris at the Sharks? Looked like a ragged, aged and over the hill squad two years ago and he’s had them over-performing every year. Is it that they think Fitzgibbon will be even better or was there some problem with Morris? One would think a coach wouldn’t be sacked if the board had confidence in him. Looks like a curious case.

      The players did.

John Morris has walked away after Sharks announce Fitzgibbon as their 2022 coach

Gotta feel for the bloke …
      What’s Fitzgibbon ever done ?

Very shabby organisation the guy has taken a pretty average team to 2 finals series…obviously the players did not like him .

I keep reading that Morris took an “average team” to the finals. That “pretty average team” made the finals 6 of the 7 years before he took over including winning the comp in 2016. In the two years that Morris took them tot he finals, both times they lost and were out first week.

To be fair they have had serious injuries and departures. I think he has done well . The decision from what I have heard is not about Morris.

POssibly, but the narrative is that he took an average team on and got them to the semis. He took over a successful team and they got worse.

Could be wrong but he’s had to put up with awful signings like Dugan/Fifita on major contracts, Josh and Brett Morris leaving, Gallen retiring. John Morris hasn’t set the world on fire but he’s developing well as a coach. Maybe if Flanagan was available and they booted Bomber for him, that’d be fair.

Again…lovely bloke. Why is he “developing well” as a coach? On what metric? Everything has gone backwards since taking over. Lost players…who did he attract to the club? Who did he replace them with? Compare Morris recruitment to Madge (who gets crucified here for it).

They have probably gone backwards because they lost their Peptide supplier.

      At least Morris is honest.

The attack of the team is boring. Three or four forward hit ups ,a blind side play and then a kick. No one is expecting an offload from those first four plays so teams can coach against it.

Hahaha. Amateur hour NRL… takes someone watching on TV to inform them
Sorts sums up our club though… Utterly pathetic and all our leader can do is dog on the premiership front runners… Bit of a cat act imo, get someone else to do the dirty work Pascoe you dope 😏

I’m only thought on this is no one likes a snitch

So much going sideways in his own club but he’s more invested in snitching on Penrith (not that I endorse them doing the wrong thing, but it sets a very poor look.)

Why does it set a poor look? The comment was made earlier, how does nobody at the NRL not notice the huge crowd at Penrith? How is NRL not overseeing adherence to COVID protocols.

I’d raise it too if my team was desperate for a sell-out at a traditional home, get told no, then another club goes ahead and does it. I’d be phoning in Roosters too if I ever found evidence of salary cap breaches. Nothing wrong with being a whistle blower, that how half of all fraud gets identified.

Anyway, Pascoe can “help the club go sideways” and put a phone call into the NRL, he is a full-time employee. Maybe he made the call in his personal time during the match?

I’ve edited my post as it was not well articulated. As a Wests fan, I couldn’t care less what Penrith are doing. Yes, the NRL were not paying attention, but I guess was anyone involved in the State Government enforcing these protocols as well? Should heads roll within the NSW Government as well for it not being picked up? Whether he made a phone call in his down time or not, it’s quite obvious what was intended by making the call.

Moreover, the NRL is a mickey mouse organisation, we’ve all known this for quite sometime. I would rather our CEO worry about becoming a club like Penrith or Easts that can work or exploit the rules rather than be the poor cousin that gets caught with their hand in the cookie jar all the time. I would also suggest dobbing in the Panthers for overcrowding is not the same as revealing cap cheating. Was probably Pascoe still bent out of shape for his ban he copped.

Probably because it was Cleary that dobbed him in. Gotcha back.

The club bungled the whole event completely. Imagine making a press release, that your team is going to run out in Wests jerseys to remember the toughest halfback that played for one of our founding clubs. And we Trott out in our standard home jersey.

Did the club state as such, as I thought it was just a change" from the predominately gold (orange) WT jersey to the black version?

Not officially, but it did make its way to the media and was celebrated as such an idea. It was all the talk this afternoon on SEN. Couldn’t have been that hard to manufacture 30 playing jersey’s. Apparently the next Campbelltown game v Gold Coast is the Tommy appreciation round so I should hope that we make a better effort for that.

To my knowledge the Club never said they were going to wear the old Western Suburbs jerseys.

It was the media that were sprouting this bunch of rubbish, not the club.

Last year, the club identified speed and leadership as the 2 biggest weaknesses.

We bought Tamou but ýou don’t fix the leadership gap with just him. Particularly if he only plays 26 mins.

I’ve been supporting Brooks and hoping it works out but fact is we need a controlling confident halfback who can lead this team around the park.

2 things that stood out to me:
In that first half we were all bunch up and heads down. Needer a halfback to boss the guys around and organise.
Also attacking in their 20, Brooks can’t break them down.

Not many options out there for quality halfback. We need to make a big play for Reynolds (Adam not Josh 😅). Has a connection with Madge, Douehi and Roberts.

Ps. Not sure if we fixed the speed issue yet either. Roberts did not chase those first couple of tries. Isnt he meant to be one of the fastest players in the comp???

Sorry only replying to one part of your post but it stood out to me. Did Tamou sit on the bench the entire 2nd half ?

Yep he didn’t play 2nd half

That is interesting … and something to read into. Tamou was bought for on field leadership, and what we saw in the 1st half (and well all our games this year thus far) has been the complete opposite.

I hate to say it but I think he’s just his to collect his retirement money. Doueihi showing raw emotion and passion in the 2nd half is what we need moving forward

Needs to go back to Easter Island where his heads at .

Pascoe doesn’t cop enough for overseeing this, year after year. Seems good with the corporates but at organising a competitive footy club? Not so much.
