Q. How do you turn a good player into an average player?
A. It can take a few years, but on a positive note, it’s something we have been good at.

So you don’t put any onus on the player?

It’s all the clubs fault, is it?

Don’t think so.

I don’t think it’s fair to say that Brooks’ poor form rests on his shoulders alone. You may mount an argument that we are all masters of our own destiny, but at the same time, we all behave in accordance with the expectations of others. It’s in our DNA, and particularly so in a team environment. In a team sport, just as a coach can improve performance of a team and individuals in that team, it stands to reason that a coach (or poor club culture) can produce the opposite. As much as us fans get frustrated at a players poor performance when we know he has the skill, we need to acknowledge external influences and cultural expectation.

If your club operates without organisational discipline, pays overs for players at the end of their careers, mismanages the cap to the extent that it has to buy affordable plodders or unwanted players, then yes I do think that has an affect on club morale and consequently individual player performance.

However you want to look at it, the guy hasn’t stepped up to control the side, everyone wants to blame other players except the bloke whose job it was.

I hope he turns it around, but he really does control his own game and his footy future.

I suppose the lights are shining on Brooks because of the position he plays? So which players in the team have had stellar performances throughout 2020?
I just don’t want to see Brooks get turfed when we’ve not fixed the real problem. The cause of his, or any other players poor performance?

So true ,and what half out there can the Tigers buy?Because every half outside of the top 4 gets bagged. It’s always the half never the team.

Seriously, there is not a half in the world that would have looked good in the Tigers side last year.We had forwards who had little forward momentum and soft in defence.JA was our best and he was ok but not anything special. Our backline was lacking penetration and was slow.We had no fullback,no goalkicker, and a bunch of guys who would be lucky to survive in the CC comp, who we kept moving around on the hope they might make some impact.

I disagree so if the forwards were that bad last season … why was Grant such a sensation ? You either have the the goods or not that is as simple as it gets . Yes a stronger pack makes a 7’s job easier but a 7 that has the goods will always stand out ! This rubbish about the forward pack is just falsely

Grant played with the same so called dud forwards that Brooks played with. Grant looked like a champ … Brooks well you either have it or you don’t!
The champs stand out whether there playing with champs or chumps that’s always been the way .

Comparing a forward to a half? You have no idea!

i thought Harry was very good ,aggresive quick and tough. He was a DH and obviously played towards Benji. That style is very similar to cheese and Cordner,.but also has a very limited life expectancy on the field. At the end of last year he was carrying injuries, and with the young bull mentality he will get more. The smart footballers pace themselves, this is a tough game. The role of a half is completely different.

Dumb and Dumb. Harry is the first player wit h the ball, and normally passed it to Benji’s side.Harry was good, but a tad overated.Brooks will kill it this year.

At this stage, with new players and staff, anything could happen. But in the whole side the only one who is certain of his position is BROOKS.

You could add a few others to that list - Tamou, Lucy, Nofo…

Yeah , sorry mate, iwas thinking backline mostly,.Damn, how could i forget the Tigers own copy of JAC.

With 8 and maybe more new players in the squad,it wil bear very little resemblance to last year,.The impact they,. and the new training staff have on the team will be immense.I expect goalkicking would have also been a priority.By mid year i expect many changes to the predicted starting side. Many players will be nervous about their positions.

Tamou,JO,JTJ,Steff,Simkin,Madden,Cini,Kepoa, mid year Kel and? plus maybe Laurie and one other.plusSimkins.All very exciting, and wonder what our side will look like at years end.

Seriously, I don’t dislike the 'bop. In fact I hope he can keep his hands clean to handshake, knuckle-bomb and sign with the Boncos.

And who would you play at fullback?

I’ve stated before, I don’t think he’s a bad player, but his performances are not commensurate with his price tag.
He is a capable player whose hands under a high ball have let him, and the team, down.
He will do until we organise a better option at the back.
The comment I made was tongue in cheek.
Having said that, how do we know if one of our young-uns couldn’t do a similar or better job if given the chance? But his all-round experience is certainly an advantage at this stage in proceedings.

I pretty much agree with most of this post, none of our young player could do a better job because none of them a fullbacks. Kepaoa could maybe transition to fullback in the future but it is too much to put on him this early.

The joke was really about regaining some salary-cap space, thats all.

I get it, I’m happy for him to go at the end of the year. We need him this year.

True, gets you thinking though about how we could leave such an important position with no contingency plan.

It is not like they haven’t attempted to address it, JAC was a target for that spot and when they missed him they signed one of the best up and coming fullbacks in the game and have been working on an early release for him since.

I would like to see us sign up a player who can be a backup at both fullback and 5/8th.

There’s a couple coming through Tannous,and Kepoa,.

To the Mbye supporters…Can any of you point me to the game that Mbye played well in during his time at the club. I don’t remember any.
You’ll need to back up your comments with relevant statistics.
Now go to it and overwhelm me with his many stellar performances.

I suppose yeah he hasn’t statistically had any wowzer games off the top of my head. He has however had good stints at fullback where he was organising it like a maestro. Billy Slater even made comments about how he thought Mbye was as good as Tedesco in the NRL at that part of the game.

A maestro ? iwish!
