Magpie fan since 1973, West Tigers fan since 2000. Tried to follow other teams in the last dark days pre merger but couldn’t do it. Rusted on and always hopeful.
I figure we are better off without Cleary under Maguire. Woods was overrated, we were never going to hold onto Tedesco and Moses was a gamble not showing much at the Tigers. Yeah he’s playing well now but he’s a grub, like Matterson so the latter gets my vote.
@Curly_Tiger thanks for putting your time into this. First time I’ve seen something on paper that gives a good insight into our possible cap situation and where we are getting the best and poorest return on investment. When I look at these numbers I really struggle to see how teams like the Roosters keep within their cap limits. Something don’t add up!
I just hope they do a deal sometime soon and move Matto on. The squad will be back for the pre season in the next month or so and we don’t need the negativity around. We also don’t need him knowing our pre season strategy. If he’s still there will he be excused from training? .
@supercoach to me the cap situation depends on which lens you look through. The ‘we don’t have to move anyone on because we are compliant lens’ or the ‘we have some unproductive players soaking up a lot of cap so we need to move them on’ lens. I think we are in the latter situation so we can’t buy the players we want unless we free up cap space. If we can’t move on the players we don’t want then I reckon at best we might get one or two good low salary additions to the roster but no higher end additions to build a competitive team around. If we can get a quality swap for Matterson in a position we need to strengthen then that gives us a good chance. I’m thinking 8th is possible if we can win the games we are expected to win next year.
