A completely unsubstantiated rumour from someone on Zero Tackle I know nothing about, but interesting reading if nothing else:

TwentyOne January 7, 2020 at 2:54 pm
I hear the roosters have offered Bronson Xerri a new apartment at 30% below market value in negotiations to poach him from the Sharks.
I hear Latrell will be at Souths training next Monday with Johnston sadly off to the Tigers
I hear the Bulldogs have offered The Fox big money to divert him away from Souths
I hear The roosters will have 2 premierships stripped from them plus massive fines and cap restrictions by mid 2020 if investigations are proven correct. Big media release before season commencement.

If the rumour is true and they strip the Roosters of 2 x premierships, then I think the fallout wilI be big for the NRL and lead into an investigation into the entire organisation and hopefully goons like Greenburg will be looking for new jobs.

Isn’t Latrell a top bloke. Forcing his indigenous brothers out of the club they want to play for, so that he can be squeezed in.

His new teammates are going to love him.

Poor Latrell, give him a break. he’s just trying to do the best for his family. Please… (sarcasm alert).

Jesus Christ, everyone knows the score. If Souths or Wests are prepared to offer the money, well it’s the club who have to accommodate it. They will be the ones who have to make the decisions on moving players on as they manage the cap, not Latrell (or any other player for that matter.)

Settle grettle. No one knows the score atm.

Lack of finals footy is the issue. Players want to win a GF and we haven’t exactly been knocking on the premierships door.

Well who would have thought Bennett would backflip … He is just and out and out liar.

I don’t feel sorry for LM at all - this has basically been a well orchestrated plan to enable him to sign with Souffs all along.

Hopefully, he will be well researched by each team before their games (be tackled around the legs - pointless going high) and that he will have a massive form slump over the next 10 years.

I have no sympathy for him and I’m sick of people that say he only a kid and doing the best for his family. If he committed a crime hed do time in an adult prison, not a kids prison. He will never struggle to pay off a mortgage or a car. He is doing what’s best for himself.

And why shouldn’t he?

Not saying he shouldn’t.

Just in from a (possibly) reliable source: Jackson Hastings and Matt Parcell from Super League.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think Hastings wouldn’t be a bad signing. He is a good player, just a bit of a goose in his mindset (which can change with maturity). If think a coach like Madge would get the best out of him as opposed to a coach like Cleary.

“Now it looks as though Bennett has softened his stance and wants to consider signing Mitchell to a one-year deal on a reduced contact.”
Odd.

Sounds dodgy to me. The only way they can fit him in 2020 with their cap. They will sell it as 'It’s best for Latrell, so he can get his head right". Then lock him away on big bucks from 2021. The NRL are gutless and will believe it all.

I know this has been said before but I think the strategy of building from the bottom, in other words sign a swathe of promising juniors from around the league and develop them patiently is really the way to go for the Tigers. As many have said, we just don’t have the drawing power of other clubs to snare the marque players, actually we plain haven’t earned any type of drawing power. Nearly all of our star players have come from within, Benji being the classic example. Maybe when we have begun to assemble a talented squad, established a stable coaching and management team we will begin to be attractive to the elite players, who should be signed based on need or an attempt to provide the icing on the cake. By developing players from the junior ranks there is a much better chance of establishing team harmony and avoiding attitudes of entitlement and selfishness. It’s a proven recipe. Look at the Storm.

While it is a nice idea, how many times have we done this, then we get raided by other clubs who offer the kid the chance to play finals footy.
IMO, lets just get into finals footy first (i.e. buy some elite players) then continue to build our base, its been way too long and now we finally have some cash to do it, so lets just do it.

Nah, can’t agree. For a start, we can’t get the elite players and, secondly, we seem to repeatedly pay overs for so called ‘top players’ who end up being duds. Our ‘build from the bottom’ plans have failed because we haven’t been able to hang on to our young stars. This has been because of poor management, ineffectual coaching and a failure to develop enough good, young players to fill out the roster.

Yeah. Have to agree. We’ve seen how attractive our club is to elite players. I’m a fan of building a strong club culture (lead by Madge) with junior talent amongst some experienced NRL players. Canberra has tried something different and it appears to be paying off for them. Im sick of paying overs for has beens and offering big bucks to princesses that think they are the be all and end all of the game and throwing it back in our faces. WTs fans should be ropable with how the LM situation has played out, we offered huge $$, his desired position and him basically ignore us.

Canberra targeting some more English players

Wigan forward duo Oliver Partington and Morgan Smithies plus Castleford utility Jake Trueman currently topped his shopping list.

Take a leaf out of the raiders recruitment book WTs. We should be at least looking for suitable players from overseas, it hasn’t hurt Canberra. They won’t all be superstars, but look how influential Gareth was for our team. We just don’t seem that appealing to established NRL players and we won’t until we consistently make the 8.
