Our juniors will and should always be a starting point for us and if we and other clubs along with the nrl don’t invest there, the number of kids playing will get smaller. It’s already happening.

We know the team and coach we have for 2017, some minor changes will take place but we aren’t going to see any big moves? So when do we make a call on the future of the players. If we win our 8 of the 10 are we happy to see this team in 2018? Or if we then follow it up with a 6 game losing streak then what? When is the coaching and player decision made?

@bathursttiger:

The best way to have a more level playing field is to run it like Super coach.
Put a value on every level that a player, eg: Australian SOO 100 NRL games.
Then set a limit on each club.
Discount for being a local junior.
Discount for years of service.
This would never happen because Uncle Nick and Greenberg’s ex club have no juniors.

This is logical!

In addition why not cap the number of players with TPA’s - only 7 per team and punish any team found roarting severely both financially and on the field eg. that they can not compete for points the following season?

Seperate to the above,why are we worried about players claiming we are restricting their earnings? Outside of football most roles have a salary band and that is all you will get. Exceptional candidates may receive slight overs but predominantly the sum on offer is set?

I haven’t heard of him but I did a quick search and I’m not sure, is he better than what we have at the moment?

@Geo.:

I’m a big fan of the cleanout threads…

Why cause no one ever comes up with the solution of replacements…When you shop at Go-Lo…the Reject Shop is not a step up…

:dead :dead

My ambition was to get a conversation going on the when we make the decision to keep or let go not so much the who although I understand that the two go hand in hand.

So let’s say by week 5 we are 2 wins 3 losses do certain players get a cross through their names marked as no contract renewal or is it status quo. What about the coach?

The thread is alive or not! :sign: :righton:

Having just read the Des clean out, I started to wonder about us and a clean out or changing of the guard - call it what you like. When and what is the trigger?

This is not just about JT it is about the whole team - where I refer to team it includes JT

If we get to round 5 and we are going well do we plan to keep the team? Do we have 3 review points 5 weeks, post origin and end of year?

Or do we say, at 8 if you are not 4plus wins you and you and you won’t be here next year?

If we are going to have money for 2018 and a number of players are off contract do we want to make the decision early or wait till end of year?

I would say make the call early on the coach so what ever the outcome they have a good look in 2017 and can build for 2018.

If the topic is boring then it will die of natural causes!

@Tiger Come Lately:

The Bulldogs are no better or worse than we are. They are only as goods as the people representing them at the time and their results on the field.

They have had off field dramas bigger than ours, club leadership issues and player issues in the past.

Their fans are no more passionate than we are!

Listening to the radio yesterday they were arguing about Hasler and weather or not he still has what it takes? I think with a team and pack like that they expected to be higher up the ladder. Also the Hoppa business maybe adding to the dramas. So review and maybe a clean out is requried?

Totally agree.

SBW walking out on his contract, points deducted for salary cap, the Coffs Harbour incident, the Mad Monday abuse of a female reporter, the issue with violence at matches, the bottle-throwing at Belmore etc.

Bulldogs have tonnes of off-field issues, probably worse in potential criminality than the Tigers, but they have more money than Tigers and don’t have to deal with historical merger issues. They have better on-field results, but they spend a lot more on football operations than Tigers do, and actually despite reaching GFs have not won a premiership more recently than us.

This story is just Dessie doing a clear-out to save his own skin, but lucky for Des he is very well paid and respected, so he doesn’t have the same media scrutiny as a nobody novice like JT.

That’s the key Des is respected, but he has earnt the respect!

JT isn’t there yet, I’m not that good a judge to decide if he will make it or not but I do know enough to say that when you have a track record of success people take what you have to say seriously.

That then gets you the buy in from the players which makes leading them easier.

When you don’t have a proven track record there is always doubt and inconsistent results.

If JT can’t Improve next year, we need the same thing, a good clean out! And I mean early in the season if by week 5 we are not 3 wins from 5 or better then JT should go, a new coach in and he can set the platform for 2018. Decide on who he keeps and starts the negotiations for new players in 2018.

@TigerOfBankstown:

Rugby League will always be a pub sport with pub culture, nothing more nothing less… hence the likes it attracts, for Christ sakes our first grade coach urinates on elderly women at the cricket, Look at Todd Carney drinking urine and that other bogan from the raiders with the dog incident… Shocking… and Robbie the serial coach sacker, who… what!!! what’s this world coming to?

Couldn’t agree more, I was telling a mate that last night while taking a wee on a car in the carpark at the pub, we had been there all afternoon drinking we were blind, he had just chucked up in the dunnies and the bar maid was yelling at him for a comment he made. I had meat pie and sauce down the front of my shirt!

I hope my mate is alright he is has court today, he is defending a bank robber!

People are people, they do dumb things when pissed!
