Some caller on 2sm reported this arvo Corey Thompson to Penrith…anyone heard anything about this

The only way I could consider this a smart move is if we have signed both JAC and AJ.

Probably let him go without a replacement sorted.

I didn’t want to say it but …

I look forward to our upward trend in the cycle. Should happen any decade now.

I promise I won’t gloat when it eventually happens.

How long are you willing to wait? Mate I hope it turns in a few months and if you gloat- good luck to you! I’ll say I was wrong and move on.

So what is the trend? You are an analyst.

The trend is we are 0 from 1 in attempting to sign Latrell Mitchells.

However knowing as you do that you need at least 3 for a trend, it’s just a single datapoint, not a trend.

Come on - that is seriously taking the piss. Is that the best trend you can come up with?
Mate, don’t get me wrong. You post great stuff but that response was less than convincing. I’ve said a million times that missing Mitchell is not the dominant issue. It’s losing clutch moments continuously. That is our dominant trend (in my humble opinion).
If we sign JAC tomorrow, we start to correct that negative trend.

I agree on clutch moments, if you mean clutch moments on the field.

Signing Latrell, or not, isn’t a clutch moment at all. It’s a very long drawn-out affair. I am not aware of any trend of Tigers offering players a million bucks and being turned down. Not even privvy to the data about how many players Tigers have ever (or recently) made offers to and how successful we have been.

Recruitment is all shady talk anyway and almost no firm data, so you can’t really go building trends about recruitment.

By clutch moments I mean important end results - moments where it matters.
I agree we don’t understand The intricacies Of contract negotiations. Mate I know nothing on that front. But at end point - we lose. That’s my data point. End result. Interestingly, I wonder where we win in this regard? Maybe with players not seriously contested? I don’t know. But I stand by my hypothesis: when we want a good player - we lose. When we need to win - we lose.

We lose if Mitchell turns out to be the best thing since sliced bread. We win if he doesn’t.

True.

This club has literally survived setting itself on fire multiple times, now a handful of people want an amputation after stubbing their toe.

Seriously, this is only painful because a vocal few can’t get over it. What did you do to survive the merger, Craig Field and McGuinnes, Hoppa and Lamb, Prince leaving, Lui, tiger sharks, etc… I’m only up to 2012.

If you’re that sick of it find a new hobby, come back in March. You should really aim higher than being miserable all the time.

The signings you make and shouldn’t have (Blair, Ballin, Cleary’s crew for the money we paid) are what wrecks your cap. The signings you wish you made and didn’t, imo, at the very least don’t stuff up your future recruitment.

Finally, people who are all doom and gloom should look up self fulfilling prophecies. In any business it is very easy to create an aura based purely on unreasonable expectations, be they positive or negative. The more posts in the media, including social media, the more you add to the perceptions out there that "the tigers suck ". In my opinion we have over achieved to finish 9th and I wish I enjoyed that more about last season instead of being so bothered by the seasons prior. Even the fans don’t believe, how are we meant to convince anyone else? What’s more, when the club leadership is positive they get mocked by the know-it-alls on here with less than no idea. All departments are improving, football will too.

If I’ve offended anybody I’ll just say this. I can’t wait until we succeed, I hope and believe it will be this year, otherwise why bother being here months before kick off.

Mate passion drives this forum. We are all ridiculously passionate about our team. This leads to emotional investment and emotional comments. I love your passion and how you express it. But you’ve articulated the problem. We go from mistake to mistake to mistake. It needs to change. We lose every clutch moment. You can list all the achievements - front office ok, great coach, COE - all good. But we still lose. Always. It needs to change. And as a passionate member and supporter I demand more. All emotional with best of intentions. But I’m sick of losing. Aren’t you?

Steve I’m sick of missing the finals, however we aren’t really losing 80% of the time or anything. We are often competitive and I look at our squad and think we go ok. I have been vocal about what I think we can fix, we need speed desperately. Despite being able to recognise and discuss shortcomings, I really don’t think missing out on LM is a big deal. He left the Roosters, he is hardly looking at the club’s prospects as part of his decision. This has been conveniently overlooked by many.

I’m also delighted we aren’t chasing a makeshift fullback. We have 2 already, specialists only or wait for the right opportunity. Everything is in the framing mate, as I’m sure you know as you are much more experienced with organisational change than I am.

The negativity is often justified, buit in this case it is creating a myth about the club that will make the future even worse.

I’m saying that no matter the challenge- we lose it. On field and off field. It’s becoming part of our DNA and it’s a real concern. I don’t think my criticism is unjustified- my point is there for all to see ( lost opportunity).

Maybe we lose more than our share, but “no matter what the challenge”? That’s just silly. Chee Kam alone won 2 last season.

I agree, that’s where the Latrell thing has taken some people. Don’t sign Player X and it becomes “why do Tigers always XYZ?” Why do we always lose? Why do we always fail?

We win about 44%, that’s our going rate. I totally want it to be better, but based on history, might well be 44% again. 9th is a fair result, it’s reflective of average, not always lose.

I also don’t buy into this idea that “failure is becoming in our DNA”. There would hardly be a single Tigers employee who is still going around since the Tim Sheens days, almost zero players. Coach is brand new, CEO fairly new, chairman brand new, ok board probably been there a while, most players less than 5-6 years.

So how an entire organisation can have failure in DNA when there is a very large rotation of staff, I can’t understand. Is it seeping into the brickwork? Are we a cult of losers that indoctrinate all new comers into our losing ways?

Wait aren’t Tigers “the Entertainers?” What happened to that DNA? What happened to “the Dogs of War” at Canterbury?

The reality is football is cyclical, 3-4 seasons at most, and even if your results look the same in side each cycle, really they are made up of radically different events and causes.

I look forward to our upward trend in the cycle. Should happen any decade now.
