Harry looks like he’s been carrying a hand/wrist injury for some time now. He deserves a week off. I’m a bit disappointed Doueihei didn’t get one too. It’s clear his body isn’t right at the moment.
Glad to see Leilua, Packer and Eisenhuth back in the side. Looking forward to seeing what Kepaoa can do. Honestly shocked to see him named and not Jennings.
Jennings…who is he…?..the sooner we forget him the better…
Raid ESL and get Sezer and Rhyse Martin back for next year- accurate goal kicking work horse back rower and a pretty good halfback capable of kicking goals too. Would give us coverage for a couple of years whilst the younguns develop a bit more. We could even try to do a swap deal with Sezer and Brooks and see if a season or two in ESL helps him develop his game.
Edit- Could also look at a former WT player that has matured over in ESL as a halfback- Jacob Miller.
None of those guys are better than what we already have
Yep our season is over, I see us winning 1 possibly 2 games out of the 8 left… we will come 10-12 on the ladder… imo a big fail… Madge should use the next 8 games to determine:
Our halves for next year( Madden/Brooks/Douhei)
keep or punt Mbye, Packer, Huth
Tell Reynolds to go find another club cause he has no chance of playing FG
Find spots for Simpkins, Hoffman, Cini
Continue to develop Blore
Tell Benji to retire
I think it’s about time we heard from Lee and other board members showing some solidarity and support of Madge.
What like Madge has the full support of the board? If that happens it’s the beginning of the end for Madge.
It’s not needed or required and I certainly wouldn’t want to hear those words.
If the board gets involved publicly then there is a serious issue beyond the scope of the coach and it’s bye bye Madge.
Ha ha, Mike, I see your point, but there are many other ways board members can publicly display solidarity without using that cliche which means the door is now open. Ha ha.
It’s very important that the players are aware that player management and board are as one. We’ve all seen cases where the players perform badly to influence the boards view of the coaching roster. Some players find the training too hard etc.
The board should not be seen or heard . Honestly do you hear about the roosters board , lately and only very lately we have heard anything from Politis
As for board showing some support , you are overdramatising the situation . Yes bad result and bad season , fixing up a club takes time , getting into the 8 is great but no use if it’s not sutainable .
As much as I hate quoting Phil Gould , as he is mr 20/20 hindsight and mostly full of it he has made good points too and that is
- it takes. Coach / board to ruin a club with 12-18 months BUT takes. Coach / board 5 years to fix it .
Look at the mess dib/ des created In the end at dogs , 3 years and still trying to get out of it , but that board has a plan and they have not been falling for stupid media pressure for them to fix it, I guarantee dogs will be a force in 2 years .
Now with madge, it’s his 2nd year it takes time , you can see he is building up the young and junior base, trying to install a culture this all takes time. It’s not a quick fix , board has not panicked and madge does not seem to be panicking .
This is why the board “showing support” will have opposite affect and cause more dramas and the same old same old as past 10years will happen at the tigers
Not so much as a statement from the board saying “we are behind madge 100%”, more so a show of support by extending his contract. He is the right man for the job. Give him 10yrs for all I care. Which other coach out there screams results for us besides Bellamy? Maybe Robinson? We wouldn’t get him anyway. Madge is our coach at least for the next 5yrs.
Agree extend him 2 years
I agree to extending Madge for 2 or 3 more years, my concern is our inability to recruit marquee players in their prime years… we have not done this since Ellis… those sort of players don’t want to come here, they want storm or roosters
Camroux has decent size and speed and is a goal kicking 5/8. What’s not to like? He’s on a development contract next season, as is Rizk is my understanding.
Foran for 300k on a one year or 250k for 2 years and have benji retire is acceptable. Wouldn’t pay more than that, body is too risky
He turned down $400k at Canterbury, he is not coming for less than that.
Heard he is after $1.2m
We have Hodgo, a club legend, as an assistant coach…is he any good?, can he coach or has he got the job because of his WT reputation?, why can’t he teach Mbye or AD how to kick goals?, would he be an assistant for any other club?( doubt it)…I think we need to look at out assistant coaches…they should be hired based on their skill level not on their WT past reputations
Where are the attacking lines Luke Garner used to run on the edge?
Where is the cocky half-back with great pace off the mark and an ability to find holes for supporting runners.
Where is our goal-kicker?
Where is the support play, or the offloads?
Where is the menace?
Where is our confidence?
Where is Ronny Palmer?
And where is our captain, and that one is solely on Madge for appointing Mbye the fake in the first place.
Benji was captain too… all he did was yell at the ref and get in trouble all game. Last night there was no leader at all.
Still on Madge, he appointed them.
To be honest I’m not convinced captains do that much at NRL level. Only thing you want your captain to do is be good at talking to the ref, everyone out on the field should be striving to lead the team and set an example.
For example packer is a great leader out there but no way you’d want him chatting to the refs all game. Captains aren’t gonna change a game like that I think personally
Captains not only need to be good talkers, they need to lead by example…Mbye just doesn’t do that
It’s clearly a team and mental problem. Against both the Titans and Warriors we take an early lead only to then sit back and get out-enthused by weaker teams and allow them back in. Madge was clearly not trying to be complacent, he was giving it to them in the dressing room at half time when we were up! So how can he be blamed for the complacency and lack of effort we saw last night
Saw the half time speech and blowup…first thing I noticed was the players couldn’t give a rats…instead of looking at Madge in the eyes, they were Looking down, around and basically tuned out
We need a halfback. Brooks a running 5/8. Don’t think there are many options in NRL off contract. Maybe Cade Cust.
Are there any organising halves in the UK worth a shot? Sezer, Jake Trueman? Raiders found a good one.
Cust re-signed with Manly
Jock Madden is an organising half who, as a bonus, can kick goals… 2 for 1
