In my view Madge is clearly ensuring we dont make the same recruitment mistakes the club has made in the past. AD is one option only and is value to us at a certain price. Madge is only prepared to pay THAT price and only for the duration that suits his plans. Fair enough - why rush it, who knows what other options will present themselves. In the meantime, us paying full freight for AD will only make it easier for Souths to get JAC and why would we want to do that.
Maybe Madge doesn’t see AD being worth the money he is asking compared to the option of sticking with Thomo.
As much as it seems a big let down to end up with AJ when we were all hoping for LM, the facts are that LM never wanted to play for us and we cant force him to. He does seem to want to play for the rabbits however, and that presents an option for AJ. As a club looking for some outside back speed and experience, i suppose AJ is a consideration especially when there are few other choices on the market. JAC is unlikely to be released for 2020 and may be a target for us in a year or two (although i have a feeling that Souths would be ahead of us).
Calm down folks. Firstly from looking at his footage the guy has talent. Secondly let’s find out the actual $$ and the roster spot he is taking up before we rubbish everybody involved - i read that he was on a “train and trial” contract and assume that is specifically because of his injuries.
IF the reports are true and LM comes at $2.7M over 3 years - Unbelieveable - Fantastic! But we need to back him up with some other good signings - we need 2 forwards and an outside back as well.
LM can’t do it all for us - a few seasons ago we lacked any attacking variation and ended up throwing the ball to Teddy in the hope he could do something. In the end he tried too hard, too often and I believe that lack of support contributed to his moving on. Look at Teddy in a side where that responsibility is shared and he is relieved of the pressure of carrying the whole team. The same thing happened years ago to Benji when we had no decent half or fullback. You could argue that Latrell at the Roosters and Latrell at the Tigers may not be the same player unless we have a team that can step up to his level.
Winning consistently in the NRL still requires angry, mobile, big guys paving the way across the ad line and standing up to everything the opposition throws at you. We need a couple of those guys as well!
