Can anyone see Talau getting a run if Mbye and BJ stay fit all year?

He is my first choice if injuries do happen

Tommy’s a gun - we need to get him in there somehow. He will be a weapon next year so some more experience this year will help as we rebuild.

Probably will get a shot at left wing. Neither Thompson or Jennings are fantastic options there and Andrew Webster mentioned they might ease Talau in on the wing.

Have watched plenty of Talau and while he has the size he is not a winger and definitely not on the left edge. His great strength is to attract several players and unload.

Right centre is his spot and we’ll just have to get in the market to find a decent winger for 2021. Not a big fan of Jennings - like Nofo but he has to reduce his error rate. Not sure if he was down in confidence but a player with his experience should have performed better against the Knights.

We need a tall, fast winger who can catch and tackle - not asking for much I know…

But hoping Bradley or Scolari is a dark horse and has a standout year in First Grade.

Season 2020 will be so hard for all the Bradleys and the Scolaris - Canterbury Cup players, reserve graders - who have no comp to play in, no comp to show their development, no comp to regularly progress, improve and pressure First grade (except for injury).

Agree with your sentiments. A lot of good young players who won’t be getting the normal development but at least Bradley, Madden & Cini (all development players) will get to train with the squad so that is something. The others are going to be at least 12 months behind but they will just have adapt in RMC and Sydney Shield. A good mindset and desire will be required by all and we should remind ourselves other clubs have the same problem in any case.

I’m hearing from a player manager that an announcement was expected today regarding the structure of the competitions for 2021 including potential changes to Top 30 number, Canterbury Cup & Jersey Flegg.

This will have a huge impact on player rosters so I would expect a lot of movement on the cards over the next 6 weeks.

@Tiggerman
Thanks for the heads-up.

Let’s see if they announce it today but that is what they were expecting.

I’m afraid it could have huge implications for our juniors as many may now be squeezed out with a drop in available dollars and player pools at NRL levels brought on by COVID.

I really would prefer if he had some gamrtime dis season

Unfortunately as for Stefano there will be a lot of players coming through who won’t be getting the experience that this year’s CC and JF competitions would have otherwise provided. COVID isolation of the Top 30 will even stop them from training with the NRL squad which otherwise might have been an option.

Not only that, there doesn’t appear to be a lot of communication from the club which is reasonable given the uncertainty for non Top 30 and development players whose aspirations would be in limbo at the moment after a long & hard off season. They must be incredibly frustrated.

I’m not sure if there is any planning going on other than “You’ll be playing Ron Massey or Sydney Shield from 1 July” etc. What happens then with the CC and JF coaches? Are they stood down and just on JobKeeper which finishes at the end of September? Will there be money for them for next year or are we looking at a similar gap between NRL and the rest from 2021?

How is scolari comming along…

2021
Might be the year for him

I think this William Kei is our best prospect as an outside back. Was picked out to do pre season with the NRL team, killed it in the trials has played plenty of junior rep footy. He’s one to look out for

Kei is a gun definitely for mine and we should be giving him experience in the top grade soon.

It’s a pity our younger group will miss out on a season of development as they come out of 20s.

Does anyone know whether they will get to play any football unless Top 30 or on development contracts?

What I’m hearing from player managers:

  • Focus is to get NRL back on paddock to generate income (makes sense);

  • Player numbers will be limited to possibly top 30 & development players or less to keep virus under control;

  • Jersey Flegg & CC unlikely to come back this year;

  • Possibly these players will go back to Ron Massey or Sydney Shield - clubs will monitor from there;

  • Under 21 comp maybe next year to make up for younger players who have missed a season this year.

  • NSWRL staff to go back on 1 May;

  • All of the above could change depending on COVID recovery.

@pawsandclaws1 said in Jersey Flegg Team List: Round 1 2020:

Our halves both look good prospects. Both wingers and Hoffman were great in the backs and unlucky not to have more influence in the game.

Felix Smith was the standout in the forwards. He reminds me a bit of Les Boyd but without the over the top stuff. He put some big hits on his opponents and when he was on the urgency picked up. Our younger props need to take note and learn from him.

In the end, the difference was from a lack of urgency from one player to get back into position. His winger was screaming to him to get into position and he failed to do so. Cini really needs to work hard one on one to improve his defence

A disappointing loss. Not sure what was going on with our marker defence but they made a lot of metres up the middle and around the rucks. I counted about 5 times we either didn’t play the ball correctly or dropped it getting up to play the ball - some by the same culprit.

Felix Smith the pick of the forwards for mine.

The backs? We have some serious positional issues. Neither centre has the ability to get on the outside and get their wingers away who have pace. When they do pass it, it’s after they’ve realised they can’t make the break themselves - Riszk was passed the ball way too late and was bundled over the sideline at a crucial point. He is wasted just getting a run from dummy half. Whatever happened to the basic skill of catch, run, draw and pass?

Hoffman when he did run, ran hard and made good metres. Hard to see him as a centre though who can set up our outside men. He certainly has shown enough that he should progress one day.

Both wingers are playing like forwards and when they were there trying to give the forwards a break they were getting yelled at to go back to the sideline.

Our kicks also need to go higher when we bomb.

Defence on our right hand edge was poor. Our fullback had a quiet game but didn’t see much ball either.

I would consider Riszk to FB and Cini to wing.

If players won’t pass it - time to make changes.
