Look out next year...
Geo, I can't read you mate. You post comments like this in so many threads, and then defend the club in others.

I feel something broke in you when Marty left, and I understand. I'm here if you need me.

That's not bagging..the trend is up...
That's what I read into the original post, just as It's a work in progress can't be done in 1 year.
That's why he has brought some of these workers, just to start building's foundations.
Become a top 8 team and then we can attract some better stars, that don't want to come to a bottom of the ladder team.
Keep up the good work Ivan, we are supporting you.

Doing a great job. I like his demeanour, devotion to his family and the way he goes about things.

The most complete coach we have had in quite some time.

However, in professional sport you are only as a good as your last result. Fortunes rise and fall each day. One day supporters are carrying you on their shoulders the next they are jumping on your head, it comes with the territory.

I can only think of a couple of coaches in the modern era whom players appeared to dislike, Brian Smith and JT.

Nobody should be above criticism but the criticism should be deserved. On what Ivan has given the club criticism would not be deserved he is doing a good job and actually turned our team into a competitive outfit.
This is something we should all be rejoicing to see and i feel most of us are pleased to see

People saying you can't criticise him because the squad is weak, but who put the squad together?

I think he's done a great job, but for some bizarre reason, some believe he's above criticism.
You have to remember, many of the players he has were already contracted. Secondly, he wasn't able to get everyone he wanted. And third, he has stated, that the team that finally delivers the Holy Grail will look very different from the side that lays the foundations.
This year is, whether we like it or not, a foundation year. As will next year. Ivan has stated it takes at least 3 years to rebuild a team.

From the team that took the field on Sunday, I counted 14 players that he either signed, or re-signed after he was appointed. The only players who were contracted before he got here were Lawrence and Aloiai. And Grant took up an option in his favour.

Did the OP really suggest the only other coach who could get more out of this squad is Barrett? Has to be a typo.
I’m not saying he’s above criticism but more so that the criticism he’s receiving seems unjust.

He’s assembled quite a bit of the squad, sure, but he certainly had hands tied in regards to our cap situation, signings made prior to his arrival and the club’s standing in the competition at that time.

Not a typo. For a relatively inexperienced coach I think he’s done a good job with Manly despite the stuff going on around the club and the injuries they’ve suffered.

Ivan is doing well, I wish I could get a sneak peak at the Ladder over the next 3 seasons.

He has turned around a club that had the reputation for the softest defence in the NRL (Sorry Robbie but it was true). This was somehow achieved in 12 months and you could see the progress of it last year and continued through a huge clean out of players. Even Belly ache said last year that the Tigers defensive efforts were impressive towards the end of 2017. Now in 2018 our reputation is having one of the best defences in the competition.

We definitely have issues and I am sure if we can see them Ivan can also. The signings over the next 2 seasons are very important and I am confident Ivan can make them.

Yea it was the one thing in the post that i found odd - i expected Bellamy who i think could do well with this squad - i don't think any other coach would have done as well and certainly not Barrett.

Was about this time in proceedings when people started to question Jason Taylor.

They were howled down by the same people now trying to hold Ivan Cleary to some level of account.

You do the math.

I think some are being a bit precious, that or you don’t know a good bagging if you .fell over it.
I haven’t read this bagging of IC that’s supposed to be going on.
Most of the posts I’ve read have mentioned that he has done a good job overall, but disagree on some points, it’s called an opinion.
Some of his signings have been less than successfull, and he’d probably agree with that.

Ivan is the best Coach that we have had in quite a while, and was the best around when we signed, but he’s I.C..... not J.C.
I sure want him to succeed, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be noted when he make blunders or bad decisions
I bet even he doesn’t think that he’s perfect .
But to some it’s sacreligous to say anything remotely negative.
He’s a big boy, I don’t think he would worry about the so called bagging on here, I bet he’s heard it all, before, so there’s no need to be so protective of him

That is incorrect, as I pointed out in my last post. He didn’t inherit this squad. 95% of it was signed by him. He was blessed to have the cap space he had the day he started. Most coaches have to wait at least a season. I’m sure Dean Pay wouldn’t mind being in Ivan’s shoes. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not criticising him for this, but there are a lot of revisionists atm who are wrongly trying to claim he inherited a weak squad. Wrong.
