One trial could be fine as long as the right preparation is in place so we start the season well.It is also a possibility that the coaching staff are trying to reduce the possibility of "burnout" which seems to happen to us every year.

Righto - first whinge for the year. Why play the trial in NZ?? As a fan and member I very much enjoy going to a trial/s to watch the team ahead of the season. But hey, who cares about fans and members!
You'd be one of the few. It's very hard to get a guage on anything. I remember going to one against Parra at Campbelltown and we got towelled up 30-0. We finished that year in the top 4. Coaches treat them with contempt.

You’re right about trial form being a poor gauge. I suppose I just like getting out to see the team play after a long off season. But I do enjoy watching individuals to see who looks bigger, fitter etc. I will still go to the isp trial to see who might push for top 17 selection.

A lot of our top 30 could be considered ISP standard and so may get a second trial there.

As long as we don't play trial match type footy from Rd 1 onwards.
