OK Team

There is plenty of discussion (and bashing) on here about the team, the club, coaches, who we should buy and who we should punt, what journos make up and predominantly how bad our current team is. So how about a bit of footy intellectualism for all the budding coaches/ex player out there.

Here is your chance to be "Noddy".

What would you do to "fix" our on field performance in preparation for our next game? What changes do you make to the team and why?

Rules: You have the same playing roster Noddy has to choose from.

It will be interesting to see how we stack up against Noddy!

Noddy can’t simply “fix” the issues at this club in a fortnight. Sure he’ll likely bring in Douehi for Brooks but he should persist with the development angle for the rest of the year and bite the bullet that we’re gonna be bog average. I’d keep Kepoa and To’a (injuries aside) in their Centre spots. Brown stays at 14 but should be used better at Lock as well as Hooker. The only changes would be:

Twal out - Utoikamanu in
Liddell out - Simpkin in

After all that there’s still an empty bench position to fill with Douehi moving to the starting side so I’d put another forward on the bench but it’s pretty slim pickings as to who.

To start with Tuilagi will be meeting the State Cup Coach.

Stefano is back according to injury update so that is great news.

Side

Laurie
Noffo
To'a
Kepea
Ken (if still injured then Junior Tapou)

AD
Hastings (Captain)

Joffo
Garner (I know he is moving on in 2023 but still trying)
Whatever development player is ready for a shot
Twal
Simpkins
Tamou

Bench
Stefano
Musgrove
Pole
Seyfarth as I don' want three development players in one game.

Would concentrate on passing the ball, second phrase work and quick play the ball.

Work with halves to give the Centres and Wingers early ball.

Stop doing 5 hit ups then a nothing kick. Let's use the ball and spread it

Laurie to watch Billy Slater videos all week for positioning in attack and defence. Learn to talk more as well

Defence work on line speed and second efforts.

Would use the bench more so players are not playing long minutes.

Goal during game is that Effort and Passion against Warriors is what I would like to see and the Score Board is not a concern.

Neither hooker is doing anything anywhere to lay claim to any position in the side....
Simpkin isn't playing well as Liddle in either grade...

What we have is what we have unfortunately....

Here's my 2 cents

This is a game we should be able to win but the Warriors returning home will be a big advantage to them. I would like to see a bit of experimentation with the pack to try and get some go forward by attacking wider and earlier. We can win the collision with our pack if we choose where to attack the line.

My team

Laurie
Noffo
To'a
Kepaoa
Mamaulo
AD
Hastings
Joffa
Garner (Operating as a wide ball runner)
Pole (Development)
Stefano
Liddle (Focus on breaking up the middle when they are dragged wide)
Tamou

Bench
Musgrove
Tuilagi
Brown
JTJ

Focus - Get the basics right let the play build off that

Attack
Attack the 3/4 in defender as early as possible
7, 6 and 1 to combine in attack
9, 7, 1 (and Brown) to attack the middle when the warriors big men flag
Look to create second phase play and play heads up from there.
Kick for: Wingers, repeat sets or early for corners in poor field position.

Defence - no real change. We are doing OK when we aren't gassed. Simply get the basic right.
Focus. We must attack with line speed if we kick for the corners to wrestle field position back.

Rotation Musgrove and Tuilagi in short bursts. Bring on Brown as a ball playing forward toward the end of each half
JTJ on for impact in the last 20 of the second half

sit there drinking a box of tooheys new and watch them run up n down a hill all day
Then take them back to the sheds, sit them down and tell them they are a disgrace to the club, members and fan base not worth the money they are paid....and dont ask for a reference from us for any future employment...now go out and give me 100 push ups and 20 laps before you go ....

If you remember Cobar and I dont know if you used to get paid to play, but in my day it was $50 a win in 1st grade and $10 a win in reserve grade..Now I dont know about you but I played my butt off for the $50 and that was for a win only no draw or loss...therefore the difference is win, lose or draw these pretenders get paid just to pull on the jumper and appear to be footballers...I loved the old days...its how the game should always have been played and paid for effort not just appearance....

And if you got man of the match you wouldn't be certain to get a can, unless you shared a bath 🤣

Ours was paid at the end of the season just before we jumped the bus for the end of season trip. Some newly graded guys would still owe the club money for their shorts, socks and t-shirt in a poor season.
