Luke Brooks #167

Because they couldn't get a better 7 to replace him with.... Simple as that.
Any half decent tradesman will tell you - You can only work with the tools you've got....

There's been players that can make even the worst players better,
Brooks is not one of those players.
I love that because he wasn't an Andrew Johns, Jonathan Thurston or Cooper Cronk....
He couldn't play.

Nothing he's doing at Manly is surprising anyone who knows much about football....
Wasn't surprised to see him bagged here again last night...

I didn't watch yesterdays full game, but I listened to the mini replay while I was driving....
I sure did here his name a lot for someone who supposedly didn't contribute to the result.....

Also weird his passes are sticking for a backrower at Manly in his 25th game (2nd in back row)
Your right , he aint no Johns, Thurston or Cronk & he also isnt an organizing halfback & never was. For the record Cleary aint no Johns, Thurston or Cronk either. Cleary is surrounded by a team of players that know & do their job very well, allowing him to play without pressure. Put most halfbacks in that side & they would do very well. Brooks included. Thats the point.

And what happens when you put most halves in our current side?

Yes DCE did all the managing. That is his job. What has that got to do with Brooks or whether or not Brooks could do it?

And missed a bunch of tackles on that edge,
Threw an intercept that could have been a run away try....

All Manly's players have looked good in the last two weeks because they are winning.
Someone on here was giving Tommy Talau raps yesterday when he was more maligned than Brooks, and quite frankly he did nothing different to how he played here' but because he is on a winning team he looks good.
Can almost guarantee that Brooks featured in every game we won - halves usually do - we just couldn't win enough and ultimately he looked elsewhere like others have before him and will again until we can put together a decent roster.
Matteson fired a shot years ago and sadly the roster then was probably stronger than it is now.

There’s more to Brooks’ success than having a few good players around him. When Bud was told by Benji, it’s his team, he looked like he had been told to do a 3 point turn of the Queen Mary in Sydney Harbour. The same response Brooks had..😂
Does anyone remember when we couldn’t find a captain in the team? Resulting in having 5 captains?
It simply doesn’t make sense to direct criticism at individuals when we know what we see is a result of mismanagement .

Can you be sure about that? Is it possible that they are winning because they look good?

Good to see all the Brooks fanboys still have his poster on their bedroom wall.
He chose to leave when he should have been punted (or shifted to 5/8) years ago.
Didn’t do anything spectacular yesterday that any decent 5/8 would do in the current Manly side.
Also thought the ref followed up on the example of his mate who officiated against us and helped get the home team a victory.
Interesting to see if the pattern continues when we play at home next week.

Spin it any way you like winning silences critics.
Hard to disagree with that. If we want to win though, we need to be doing a lot more things right. I realise that sounds obvious, but I didn’t expect 12 penalties (including 2 head highs from our debuting 6) and 24 missed tackles in the first 40.

And it's also fantastic to see that his detractors can find something to lay the boots in, No matter how good he goes.... Says more about those clowns personally than anything else....

He's well outplayed the 3 blokes we replaced him with every time he's pulled on their Jersey....
Hardly nothing.

This from the Manly Captain...

Put simply, Brooks is playing with the freedom and confidence he was rarely able to find during his long stint at the struggling Tigers.

"I don't know the previous Luke Brooks," Cherry-Evans said.

"So I don't know what to compare him to other than what I've watched. But that situation itself(at the Tigers) was pretty hard to impress in.

"For him to come here, he's worked hard, he's earned his teammate's respect and his performances have been two really great games so far."

Why does everyone care so much?
He was a polarising figure for a long time at this club. People spent many hours debating his ability.

I was impressed by the Brooks / DCE dynamic yesterday.

Brooks was everywhere for 55 minutes, then handed the keys to DCE to close out the match professionally. Very little ego. If people can’t see the quality of that halves ‘combination’ then in my opinion it’s purely spite.

I don't think it's rocket science that playing next to a HOF half in DCE he's going to look much better & especially now that there's no more pressure of being the 7 for WT's. Brooks is playing like how he did here imo just with a much better team.

No coach ever wanted to replace him at Wests Tigers. Maguire resigned him and Benji and Sheen's made it very clear they wanted him and always backed him.
He wanted out and made it happen.
The fans are split on him much the same as it goes with any players with a profile in a losing team, and can guarantee you fans from other clubs have been equally as critical of him over the years. Latrell has divided Souths fans ATM because they have only won 4 of their last how many games.

Looks like in terms of his footy Brooks made the right decision for himself.

Early days, but Brooks will have a strong season at Manly and no one should be surprised. He is a very good NRL player who, like most other very good first graders, benefits from having strong players around him. It allows him to focus on his own game and the stuff he is good at, namely, running the ball, show and go, short side play, etc. He is quick, he is a solid defender, he backs up, and he has good instincts for his own game, just not necessarily overall game management. He doesn't have to at Manly. DCE, Turbo and Croker take care of that. The other guy who made a big difference was Nathan Brown. He did the tough carries, his ball playing as a lock was really impressive and he picked out JWH for special treatment every time JWH took the ball up. The Tiges could certainly use some of that. I wouldn't have signed him either, so no Monday morning quarterback from me, but he was good on Sunday
