Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Keppie is better than Twal in attack and Twal is better than Seyfarth in everything

Except for finding the try line haha

It's the Benji era people!

In with young & exciting winners while maintaining some experienced leaders with aggression & footy IQ.

If Twal is expendable, so is Nofa, Jake Simpkin and AJ Kepaoa if suitors emerge for them.

That's the spirit BWG. Ring in the changes!

I don’t get that logic at all. He’s one of our better players. If he’s on double that and we have to pay half for him to play elsewhere, then we have 300k remaining to pay a player who won’t be as good as him.
I specifically said we won't be chipping in if he goes early. If we have to pay half, he stays in 20204 and leaves in 2025. if someone wants him for next season they can take him on full freight, though i don't think any club would be that desperate.

Quality jornalism from the Telegraph

Seyfarth looked destined to join Canterbury but it is understood the off-contract 24-year-old is now on the verge of inking a new two-year deal to remain at Canterbury.

That first part is completely laughable and simply not true. Twal makes up for others lack of effort and mobility by covering such situations. He never gets caught out being lazy or not mobile enough to cover a space.
He is one of the best middles in the game at covering space defensively
Respectfully disagree. Twal IMO is horrible at closing gaps. Excellent front on defender but zero clean up work. He records so few missed tackles because he doesn't do clean up work (as these are the tackles good middles often miss). Our backs (who don't need help looking shit) are always left stranded by no inside pressure. Twal is one of those not providing it.
Furthermore our stats of so few missed/ineffective tackles and so many points conceded is a result of no forwards in our team doing any clean up work or scramble defence.

I am a big fan of Twal and appreciate what he has done for the WT however I think the club is doing well by Twal if he can secure a long term contract at another club. He has a family to support and WT unlikely to extend his contact. I think he would work well in the Storm system.

He is an honest toiler but not a player who would help WT climb off the bottom especially surrounded by poor players.

Remember it is the Dud players Storm reject that make them a Powerhouse (Caveat - Even Storm get some players wrong like Junior Moors, the Big Prop Cult Hero from Manly who's name alludes me).

Also agree with Tom Shines about "Margot Robbie" she is smoking hot.
George Rose.

Guy had a huge cult following at Manly.

I kinda don't know what would be expected though. it was an end of career signing. I think the Storm just like to have a wrecking ball on standby and for that he was fine.

If keppie is better than Twal I get it. (I haven’t got an opinion on keppies ability or style) otherwise we are just losing one of our few first graders in an already poor looking squad.
I would say Klemmer is much better than Twal, and that's the issue. Twal is too one dimensional to be earning so much.

I'm not sure what the point is of swapping Keppie and Twal.

There would be likely limited financial benefit, and Twal is a similar quality player who obviously has a good relationship with the players at WT.
Keppie offers so much more. If Twal was to stay he would be coming off the bench. If Keppie fills that spot that gives Tigers a lot more punch off the bench.
When was the last time the Tigers had a big bopper who bends the line

Who's inflating what?

How much do you think Keppie would be on..?!
My best guess would be around 250 - 300.

Twal- 400 - 450.

So $200k would be a best-case scenario based upon my baseless assumptions, which, unfortunately, is the best we often have when it comes to player salaries.

For your assumption of a $400k windfall in this exchange to be true, even if Keppie was minimum wage (which I highly doubt) at 120k, that would put Twal at 520k a year (which I highly doubt).

Ergo, I heavily favour your numbers being exaggerated, even though I agree with parts of your reasoning for such a swap.

The point is saving $400k! What's not to get?!
If Twal is on more than 500k, I would think we're chipping in. Just like we are with Joffa and Musgrove.

It's all guess work, but lets say we signed Keppie for 300k, and let go of Twal whilst chipping in 100-150k. Assuming Twal is on 550k, we'd be saving 100k on the cap to get a lesser player.

We need to keep the good and get rid of the dead wood. I don't see Twal as dead wood.

If he bends the line, why does he make less metres and break less tackles than Twal in a better performing team?

He's way behind Twal defensively too which is a given.

Swapping imo is not the reason. Imo it is positions in the 30 and also for Twal to secure his long term future.

It would tear me up if I watched our future playing for other clubs because we couldn't find room in our top 30 but the predatory clubs could. More to the point many of these players are from the Campbelltown and Macarthur region. We have waited sometime for this to happen. Hopefully we will see the same from the Balmain and old West's Inner West areas.

I’m not sure what people watch week to week but in my opinion Twal was very good this year.

It seems to me some are stuck on the Madge version of Twal who was admittedly very average. This year he added an offload and seemed to use his leg speed and footwork a lot more and looked a much better player.

I’d be disappointed to see him go but one of the problems we have is that we pay these solid players like star players then we have to let them go. Considering how much cap space we supposedly have though I’d be releasing others before Twal as the roster spot is more important than the salary at the moment.
