I thought Diaz was a stand out in CC last year. Runs a million miles an hour every hit up. We need someone with that directness in our squad. I’m hopeful he develops into a starting prop to support Utoikamanu in coming seasons!

yes that’ll be mentioned.
Rua and his contract status will get a run as will the club letting Luch and Kelma walk.
There will also be some mention of Hastings v Brooks.

Rua played good limited minutes in the first trial too.

Agree with a lot that was said. Very good to see the boys not cave in like the Tigers of old and fight their way back into the game.
Yes it is only a trial but very positive signs. Just need to find a way to keep grinding when the going gets tough on a consistent basis.
Liked what I saw of Hastings tonight. Doueihi has a big fight on his hands for the number 6. Competition can only be a good thing.
Rua Ngatikaura looks bloody impressive (I missed him last week). Still raw in some of his decision making but see a lot of Brandon Smith in him which worries the [This word has been automatically removed] out of me…you watch the Storm come a knocking 🤬
Talking of Storm, I’m quietly confident that we can jag an upset. I know trial form means nothing but this will be an understrength Storm side and we need to take advantage of that. I have a feeling the boys will be hungry to avenge that nightmare game last season.

Interesting seeing Madge, Sheens and Gardiner chewing the fat after the game obviously talking tactics. Three coaches for the price of one right there could take a bit of heat off Madge internally.

We looked a million times better when Hastings was running the show and Madden was running the ball. If Newcastle seriously are willing to pay the majority of brooks contract then there is absolutely no reason we should be keeping him here. We didn’t look like scoring when brooks was on. Hastings and madden worked so well together. It has to happen, please let him go to Newcastle.

Good to see.some real energy and commitment out there.... Boys very enthusiastic early but they have to play smart no point getting 4 in a tackle when 3 get lafet beflhind and the opp is playing the ball... Love Hastings quick hands to his 3/4s.
Rememnded me of those 5 wins in first 5 rounds against heavyweights Na few years back... Hectic scrambling defense.. We can't do that all year gotta get smarter... But good signs.. Still lots to work on

If Doueihi plays close to how he did last year it'll be Brooks who's got a fight on his hands... Hastings out performed him last night and Doueihi out performed him all year last year.
The club probably just puts Hastings on the bench or at 13, Brooks has literally never been dropped to reserve grade 😂

It's hard to compare as Madden had fresh legs compared to tired roosters legs.
I also thought whilst the Roosters defended well, it was easier as the tigers could move the ball quick in that weather.
Madden didn't look out of place...
Trial 1 ... played great for the first 60 then went to mud.
Trial 2 ... came on late and looked sharp.
He needs more game time to acclimate to the game, at first grade level.
Looks a real likely option for first grade - somewhere.

I was most impressed by the mob mentality in defense.
They really muscled up at times.
Shows me they intend to compete. Kept going to the last minute

I think two things impressed me most in that much. Atter a slow start in both attack and defense the boys showed grit and made adjustments. We were playing too sideways early and our forwards needed to get over the advantage line more when attacking our line. We changed that about 10 mins before half time. We also noticeably condensed our defensive line on the edges and increased the speed of our slide defence. Last year we don’t make those changes on the run and we concede 30 points.
In saying all that it’s a trial and that was far from anything like the Roosters. But good job lads, bit to work with. Be good to get Api or Paps over now.
