Why should it choose to come under U.S. control?
Wrong.
Turkey and Greece are in NATO and there are many flaspoints but the NATO policy is equal distances between NATO allies. Both have been in the alliance since 1952.
I agree with this 100%
Hungary invaded the Soviet Union so the Soviets viewed them as an enemy conquest and buffer against marauders from the west.
Don't know if you watched the Stan Grant interview with Julie Bishop the other night. It was a very candid interview and Bishop was genuine and honest and expressed the government view when she was a minister that would reflect general western policy.
Now don't quote me word for word but she generally outlined that the principle in Ukraine after obviously Ukraine's interest is that "we must preserve the international rules based order created by the United States and upheld by them since WW2.
Now that sounds like hegemony to me.
It means the U.S. makes breaks applys and interprets the rules. Who gave them this mandate?
The Soviet Union was arguably the main player in winning WW2 what rights did they have, and which did Russia inherit from them? And China.? And everyone else?
The UN security council architecture dosent reflect U.S. hegemony so it's a title that they assumed themselves along with the west.
And it's arrogant. Some may think haughty but that would mean they had the power to enforce and project enough power to enforce the mandate they somehow arbitrarily and unilaterally assumed. They behave unilaterally and the powers they assume to have are not congruent with their ability to make others comply as we saw this week. They talk about their new world order but China and Russia want a newer one reflecting multilateralism which has been in force in reality for at least 10 years now.
Russia called them out and tested them and the U.S. backed off. Multilateralism already exists but it seems that the U.S. is suffering from a political cognitive dissonance and wants to not accept this or form cold war economic blocks. So they lost got on their bike and went their own way.
