Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Our policy of not over spending may have got our cap back in order but we're now left with the crappy situation where we are way under the cap and don't have enough quality in our squad to win games.

From one extreme to the other.

We have money to spend, time to make a splash.

Ponga signed with Newie from North Queensland when they were an absolute rabble because they threw heaps of cash at him. We've got to aim high and hope to convince a big fish soon

I think the club have thrown money at some big name players in recent years but no one wants to come. We’ve got money to burn but no one wants to take it

Fully agree. It's about being smart though as well.
If we spend big on 2-3 talented players over a retirement ward it would be a new experience for us because that has bitten us big time in the past.
Herbi & Nanai would be a huge start.

I don't know where we will find a fullback though which after our forwards & center is the biggest hole we have unless AJ comes good. I don't have as much faith in Dillon as others do.

Let's wait and see. I reckon it's a dud signing. Time will tell but I'm making the call now he is a dud signing.

They are paying him as a premium middle forward for 4 years. He ain't that good now and he isn't going to improve.

Lastly he is a good player. At the moment I view him as being on Brooks salary and he ain't the guy to win you the game when it's on the line.
His contract is heavily front ended. By the end of his deal his contract goes way down

What makes you believe it is front ended and please don't tell me that Slothfield is your source because he has zero credibility as do the rest of the telecrap brigade

Absolutely.
Gotta sell the story and get 2-3 big names to buy in. From there it should snowball.

On another note; I don’t get why there is the resistance to having a fire sale if it means paying other clubs to take on our outcast’s contracts. Why is this such a problem?
I can see that it is counterintuitive, but I just can’t avoid the elephant in the room, that is, that $300k-$400k is just not a big price to pay for the purposes of trying to rebuild a club and and create a successful team that means so much to so many people.
For me and the average punter 300k is a lot of money, but come on, in the world of professional sport it’s not.
Consider that WT are a massive brand, sizeable organisation with significant reach, huge footprint, large networks, with thousands of members and a large number of stakeholders.
I mean, I know this is a salary cap issue, but it’s such a bloody trifle why are we struggling so much to sort it out?! It’s embarrassing!

You'd need another club to agree to take one of our players. That's the hard part.

Forget about dillon for first grade at this club for a couple of reasons, he needs time, I’m not saying he will ever be as good as papenhuyzen, but I watched papenhuyzen and he couldn’t handle reserve grade when first played it, he was timid and rag dolled and mr Mac and others didn’t see it in papenhuyzen, so they let him go. We didn’t want him. Unfortunately we don’t have time for a dillon to sit in reserve grade, make mistakes be inconsistent, get stronger, gain confidence etc…. We have nobody in reserve grade to help the youngsters progress, and it doesn’t matter how dillon plays, macdonell doesn’t like him.

I agree, But it should have happened 4 Years ago...
We missed that Window.
If it happened back then and we were looking at our 4th spoon - No one here would wear that either.
Reality, Outside of winning the comp - Everyone has something to whinge about.
