Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I’d be very surprised to see him go there. The best players understand that their brand cops a hiding at the battling clubs.
Thats the reason the Knight's withdrew their proposal to Kaylan mate, he'll go there for sure.

Simpkin has done nothing to warrant being considered one of the best rake prospects in the country. Hasn’t stood out at all in first grade.
He has done a reasonable job in several games of first grade at the age of 19.

That alone puts him in the category of one of the best rake prospects in the country.

Unless of course you can name 5 other hooking prospects of the same age that are showing more.

I can’t, but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong in believing he has’t shown anything to make me think he’ll live up to the hype. When Farah came into first grade, he looked like he belonged straight away. Simpkin is just there. Im not trying to death ride him. I have wanted to see something in him, but the truth is I just haven’t.

Thats fair enough, he may not have shown you enough yet. I agree with you, he hasn't been outstanding. But I'm allowing context, things like age, experience, etc, to be a consideration in my judgement.

But that is removed from whether he's one of the best rake prospects in the country, which you stated was not true.

The fact you can't name any others that are currently outplaying him at hooker at that age supports my original statement.

I don’t see how this is relevant to him. Most other clubs in the comp have established hookers and don’t need to blood guys as young as him. Even if what you say is true and somehow he is the best hooker his age, there isn’t a lot of competition.

It's a completely different game to when Farah broke into first grade though and it's changed more than once since. Simpkin has been ok in a much faster and intense version of NRL at 20 years old and will continue to develop.
In all honesty he shouldn't be starting for at least another year to develop his game like Harry Grant did. Did his time in reserves and on the bench building his craft till he was 23/24 and became a force as a result.

I dunno about you, but if he is the 'best hooker for his age', that would be worth keeping him.

Unless giving away the best 19 year old for a given position is a good retention strategy?

I'm not saying he is, I'm saying he's one of the best, he's in the best crop of upcoming hookers. And that is grounds enough for spend time and money to develop him.

I’m not saying to let him go, I’m happy for the club to persist. Just saying I haven’t seen anything to get too enthusiastic. He has age on his side though.

Forget about dillon, he is gone, won’t play many games here again, I’m hearing mr Mac has been ringing around player managers telling them there players should look elsewhere, he’s one, Simpkin and talau are others along with the back rower Simpkins. There is more to come. Don’t shoot the messenger.
Hope your source is good.

Also think the other impact is that Farah broke playing week in week out footy
Simpkin has hardly played any footy over the last 2yrs outside of his NRL stints, so his development against bigger bodies has been NRL or nothing.

Simpkin also was a standout in Reggie’s last year whereby he was leading try scorer before being elevated to FG.

Lots to learn still for a 20yr old kid but that what we want.I would like to see Rua as a 13 as he has a better running game.

Jake has time and a great mentor in API next year to learn from and I just hope his injury today is not long term.

I'm a big fan of Simpkin as I was Liddle in juniors.
Today he gave us a glimpse of his ability, hope his injury isn't serious (Madge said it might be ok) and he can have a good crack.
