OP after beating Eels.

Here: Laurie, To’a, Brooks, Hastings, AD, Stef, Twal, Joffa

Coming: Papali’i, Api

*Edited after Souths game: Add Musgrove and Noffa if that form continues*

10 (*12*) players I’d be looking to build around after beating Parra.

Laurie is a concern to me. Brooks could be on too much money. Some good players in that list though.

Laurie is a very rough diamond but I see a good young player in there. I think brooks knows he needs a pay cut.

They both have lots of positives. Laurie is looking a little suss under the high ball. He is going to get tested a lot.

Laurie could be a good bench utility player. He can play all spine positions and he can create something.
 
Let’s just rein it in a little. One good game and our first win in ten matches. From your list:
Diane - work in progress
Brooks - needs to find his role (supporting play maker)
To’a - looks okay but has been up and down
Hastings - quality player but has had 3 good and 3 poor halves of footy since returning
AD - let’s see how he comes back
Stef - build around this guy
Twal - needs big minutes (my favourite player)
Joffa - awesome this year

Agree with your comments but out of 30 guys these are the ten I’d ride with. Just my opinion.
 
All of them except Kelma and Lucy.
Can't let them go unless you can replace them.
Our depth is poor so even if we get one or two more quality players we still need to build depth.
If we were struggling for cap room then we would have to let more go but we're not strapped, at least I think so.
 
We’ve got a very good forward pack next year especially if we can get Nikora or hang on to Tuilagi

That’s easily a top 8 forward pack. The backline i’m less certain on but if Big Ken can pick it up and Laurie lifts maybe. I’d like to see a strike centre - I’m not convinced about Talau or any combination of him/Gildart/AD/Roberts right now. Whether Hastings and Brooks is an ongoing quality halves combo we’ll have to wait. I’m a fan of Hastings on what I’ve seen. Time will tell I guess.

I thought Tuilagi confirmed he was going? Would like to keep them both, but Luch is the one I'd be working on to backflip. His efforts in A and D are much improved. I'm particularly impressed that his form improved after signing a big deal, it's usually the opposite as we all know.

Pipe dream, I know.

Luciano is going to sweat way too much up there in all those home games. Climate wouldn't suit him and should get a medical exemption to get out of that contract.
 
I think we should make a play for Ponga, sounds like there may be some contract issues for him at the Knights. Marquee players don’t pop up very often.

Haven’t given up on Laurie but not sure about him long term. Maybe he could fit into another position/utility at some point.
 
I don't think I'm basing this on one game but I'd be inclined to extend Tamou for another year later down the track. Not what he brings on field but he really seems to rally his forwards and they listen to him. We picked 5 captains and no other forwards except him.

Especially since we got people like Seyfarth, Mikaele, Musgrove and Twal, none of whom have been standout leaders.

Maybe just give him a water bottle next season. He can do the same.
