Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Reading some of the forums opinions on players makes me feel like I am on a prank show waiting for everyone to reveal they have just been taking the piss the whole time. I just cannot fathom how people could watch last year and not believe that Doeuihi is an outstanding young player with significant potential. In my opinion he was our best player last year, improved as the season went on, displayed genuine leadership and is only 22 years old.

I think obsession with speed is such limited perspective in all football codes. Sure we'd all love to have it, but there are many ways to win against your opponent on the football field. Players like Burton, Hiku, Croker, Gagai, Parker and many more have all succeeded as centres without top end speed in recent years. I personally think Doeuihi was great at centre the few games he had and would of continued to succeed if he didn't have someone as poor as Mbye inside him.

I think that Hastings and Doeuihi will be our long term halves. Hastings has shown how effective you can be as a half without top end speed when you can shorten the middle third of the field with your positioning, hold the line with footwork and depth of engagement and create confusion by using multiple options and being a big body threat yourself. I'm not a Brooks hater and wouldn't mind him staying and Doeuihi playing in the centres, but I think he moves on when the club inevitably asks him for a significant pay reduction on his next contract.

In summary I just can't understand how people can't see Doeuihi as one of the best players and assets the club has.
Good post .he makes the plays and only needs speed outside him .he is quick enough over 40 m that's all u need to break the line and he is strong up top to get the ball away

Oh yeah, thanks for mentioning his lack of speed...all the players you mentioned are faster than Doeuihi. He did plenty of good things but his defence at times was abysmal and he took plenty of wrong options. He's never played as well as Brooks has the past two weeks, particularly defensively so I can't see him at 5/8. He's not a fullback. He may make a decent centre but I'd have T'oa in front of him at the moment and Garner, defensively, has his measure.
To put AD's value in perspective.
When he and Laurie got injured last year our spiral into abyss began.
Prior to being injured, he was moved to centre and had a blinder.
With better direction from our halves he would be in his element playing centre.
The fact is the more he plays the more versatile he becomes.

No one is really arguing Cobar - He did play well there and at 6 at times...
But his defence was terrible - More often than not...
I don't know how many times he shot out and ended up behind the play....

That was less an issue at 6, Outside injury - He's not starting at 6.
If he wants to play, In a starting side - He needs to realise this ain't U20's no more,
And he has to make his tackles.

We now need a fullback for the next 4-6 weeks and I would look into this option.
Call Cows and see if Drinkwater is available as he will be back to reserves this week with the FB back from injury. I would even offer a swap for Lucy as we have Stefo coming back soon and fullback is a massive problem that needs to be looked at. we could use Sarfath or Garner in 2nd row for this year if we let Lucy go now.
I think drinkwater would be excellent with Brooks / Hastings

I can't see him moving to the forwards.

You miss out on some of his positive attributes though. He hits hard. He can throw a really good long pass to his right. He can ball play. He is a great runner of the footy and busts the line a lot. He has a wicked bomb. He can put in a short kick as well. He is great under the high ball. He plays with passion and a will to win.

He has a lot to work on but I'd build around him and Hastings. They are our two best players.

My only concern with Doueihi is how he comes back from injury.
he was slow then (cambell gillard outran him to score). he will be even slower after injury

agree swap douie for drinkwater

AD, when he's fit, will play either ⅝, Centre or Fullback depending where he's needed.
If the current halves are playing well and all other positions are performing and fit then I believe he will play centre.
My line-up would be:
Hastings
Brooks
AD
Roberts
To'a/KM
Noffa
Laurie
if douie can play full back why did we desperately go get laurie? when laurie came big relief

Drinkwater won't move to be a fill in, why would he when he is currently starting at a team in the top 8..... We would need to offer him an extended deal and give him the fullback spot over Laurie to even have a chance.

Offering Lucy would be silly for a short term gain as well, the Cowboys will have all the leverage in a trade now - the 2 young guns have found some form and is a big reason why they have won a few games this year. If anything they will want us to take Lucy off their books for next year.

If I'm Sheens that's I would be trying to convince Lucy & the Cowboys on keeping Lucy as can't see how he will be starting for the next few years ahead of the young kids.

I didn't know people were arguing 🤣 I just jumped on the end, prob should've read into it I'm sorry.
I get what your saying about D and also there were times when he should have passed or straightened the play.
I think the more he plays the better he will be.
The way JH is working the middle, AD would settle.
He still can find himself ball playing even at centre which he did last year with some nice long cutout balls to Noffa.
Ideally players should have no more than 2 positions to play in throughout the season otherwise they get caught out or nake wrong decisions.
So I'm saying centre or fullback.
Probably a good thing Madge doesn't have my mobile number 🤣

He is starting due to there FB been out injured but he returns this week. So he is back to reserves again until another injury or form slump..
So you offer him the FB role here for 4-6 weeks and say its yours to lose and for me offering him a 2 year deal as he can play multiply positions. I personally think he would suit us better than Daine and just creates more then him. (Not saying I dislike Daine either as I like him)

It will take more than that to get him here & I agree, think he would offer more than Laurie at fullback. In saying that I think Laurie would offer more at 5/8th than both Brooks and AD.

laurie go to wings

I am a massive Brooks fan. I really hope he continues to Kill it.

Very skillful and a great defender.

the truth is that He shouldn't be resigned at the end of this contract on his current salary.

In saying that, I hope is a 1 club player and we can see some consistent finals appearances.
If he loves the club he should stay for less. I’m not saying lowball him but offer him around 650,000 and whilst we are at it I’d sign Hastings on similar. My guess is he is on about 450,000.
Hopefully the love of the club, bond of both halves encourages Brooks to take less.
Can't remember who said it, it was Sterlo or Gould or some footy brain. The best Centers are those that were 5/8 as a kid.

Why?
As they understood that playmaker role. They knew a few tricks for getting the ball over the line and for creating opportunities out wide.

Jamie Lyon typifies this. A guy who was always half Center/half 5/8. At center though he could create opportunites and make things happen.

Doueihi - is damn hard to spell. It's not me is it, the valves and constants and other english garbage stuff my typing. Cmon we call other players letters and stuff why hasn't Doueihi had a nickname yet!!!

Anyway the D man is an athlete. he has grit and he has some playmaking ability. Hence make him Center!

Sheens, in what was a massive blunder hired Braith Anasta as a third playmaker on the field. Why? Benji and Farrah would get locked down by the opposition teams. Greg Ingles was most deadly when he was forgotten in Origin.

D man to me is someone we want as "third playmaker". I am seeing Daine Laurie fitting our Bench/xfactor role if not long term fullback, sadly also seeing Oliver Gildart fit that role as well. ... Both are defensive liabilities and both have talent we can exploit.

Adam "D man" Doueini, is someone who can play 80 minutes, one of 3 tigers who can defend and offer a hell of a lot of value to our team. Put him at Center and get that defensive combination going with a little attacking flare.
Ads is his nickname I’m pretty sure.
