Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

PASCOE signed off on the move to oust Robbie

PASCOE was in charge ant the time and still is.

Ahh.... The Old
"We used to be a super club and Pascoe has ruined everything"
We've lacked direction (And success) since we've been a club and Pascoe oversaw the ousting of Robbie but was merely a middle man in it all....

There were people much higher up that were convinced that moving Robbie on was in the best interests of the club, For more reasons than this forum would ever be able to digest - Not all of them personality related.
Pascoe was just in the middle of it all...

That and countless other problems with the club
- All In his first year in the job I might add!!

We moved two club legends ( Robbie and Benji) on who both still had footy in them so brooks could take control of the team.... Fast forward to now brooks has handed the keys to Hastings.surprise surprise Hastings is a priority re signing we can build around him and Douhie.

I swear some people just invent their own truth...

Benji was still signed (until) 2015 when he left in 2013,
And was playing very poorly - He left because he wanted an extension (Supposedly promised under previous management) until 2017, And was asked to wait until such time as the club deemed it appropriate to extend him for a further 2 years - On top of the 2 he was already contracted to.

Robbie was moved on so the club could focus the team (And the Salary cap) toward building around "The Big 4"
And what were we missing by moving him on??
- Another 4-5 of not making finals
(Like the previous 4-5 with all the old boys running things)

The money Tedesco was going to cost - Woods - Brooks - Moses.... There were also Simona, Sironen - Lawrence was on big heap of money....
There was no room for Robbie in the cap,
Or his dominating on the field.!!
(Weather it worked or not is a different argument)

You might also find it strange that not everyone around the place loves Robbie as much as some here...

We took a punt on the next crop of kids being the future - And here we are....

Was it worth the punt - at that time, I think so....
It's not like were Playing finals with Robbie, Benji etc...
(Long time between 2003 and 2013-2016 to play finals only 3 times with big players like them in the team)

If we'd kept Benji and Robbie and lost Teddy, Brooks, Moses and Woods because of it
- The forum would all be whinging about that instead of whinging about Farah and Marshall for the last 5-7 Years.

The Forum is whinging about losing Papanhuyzen - When we had Tedesco at the time....

That isn’t even close to being true haha

Is that because they had someone better?
This is why good players get better when they are with good players. How many props can put a bomb up and have it land on the line inch perfect?
Yes exactly. He got his chance via injuries and took it. The point is though that Melbourne had judged he was dispensable.

Also I’d love to know if Solomona had a kicking licence lol.

Sorta is...
Not really Demps

Benji had signed with a Union team and posed in their jersey prior to finishing his contract with us. That is an immediate sack at any club in the NRL

Farah from all reports didn't get along with Potter & Taylor (correct me if i'm wrong, it was a while back)

Bit different to the club handing the keys to 1 game rookie Brooks

I think every 1 has a rite to whinge if we let Robbie and benji walk to focus on the big 4 then to loose 3 of them and be left 1 potentially the worst 1 (but the most loyal) then to bring back benji and Farah a few years older it sounds like a total disaster

That covers the first half of the statement....
Which is factual.

The second half, however... is what I also believe to be true.

You reckon?
It's taken us 20 odd years to have a "team" Where no one player is bigger than the team.
As an organisation, We revolved around our stars for far, far too long...
Also true.

The old two change room stories.

Club stuffed up on not backing Robbie and benj their whole career.

Pascoe was just backing the coach.

Would of been interesting to see how sheens would of managed bring Moses into grade with benji here.

Hastings has been back in the NRL for 4 Games...
I'm all for him, But it's yet to be seen if we can build anything around him....
Or if he has any interest in sticking around for it?

Oh yeah I didn't disagree about the 2nd part

Although I still think it is too early to tell who our halves should be moving forward. End of season will tell us for sure

I’ve tried to make sense out of all this too?
The key feature of many who were kicked out against their wishes was leadership. The kind of leadership that is born from loyalty, the deep rooted, home grown leadership that money can’t buy.
Consequently the end game was a club without leaders so that those incompetents could then work their “top down” style of management.
It could very well be still ingrained into WT culture if you believe Joey Leilua’s criticism on his way out?
I would like to think that we’ve turned the corner, but I want to see more evidence.

He took Salford to the main event..
Then went to a premier club as soon as the offer was there.

I hope he's down to build at the Tigers.
Guy still lives out dragons way tho.

Also true.

The old two change room stories.
I 'll never forget Beau Ryan making fun of Fifita for mentioning it.... "Something like, How would he know - He was in the reserve grade changing room"

Fifita was a top 24 squad member at the time, A far better player who went on to achieve more than Beau Ryan could ever dream of....

Beau Ryan was in the circle though.
Must be nice...

Disrespectful and unwelcoming imo.
Good to see we've moved away from that ego fuelled nonsense and we're trying to build something special, as a club.

I didn't want to mention it....
But that is our current reality.
He also then left the premier club over there as soon as an offer here was there for him....
He's here now, I have no doubt he'll put in for us....

Don't know if he has a short term personality, Or a toiler either. Some personalities work for a short time and then expire.... I'm optimistic on that... (Maybe moreso hopeful)
