Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

He hasn’t played many first grade games but has a lot of fight in him, like his effort plays etc. I just see him similar to how Jack Williams started to force his way into the Sharks starting side in 2018-2019. In saying that I think Jack Williams has peaked is the perfect Storm recruit and less ideal for us. Hopgood on the other hand has yet to force his way into the Panthers side and would the perfect player to add to mix in with our youth and add some fight to the pack.

I just re-read an old article about Aitken transitioning to the back row.
At the time it was published his preference was to move back to the centres.
Does anyone know whether he actually wants to remain a back rower?

In 2019 we had a really good look at Aitken before he signed with warriors, he is just what we need can play centre and also second row and perfect bench utility if needed and he does not want to relocate to NZ for 2023. Get it done tigers

What we need is speed. Look at cowboys what a turnaround .
I know we ditched speed in past Korobete,Addocarr, Papenhausen
But Sheens 2005 side main defining trait was SPEED..Last 3 weeks our pack has been fine and with Steph and Papal and Api will be good
Our backs Laurie fine Nofoaloma great finisher ,our 6 and 7 good
Need very fast centers and one more winger.

That would depend on the Warriors, can certainly fit him in this year. 2 year deal starting in 2023 money wise is $300-$350k per year.
I'm surprised he doesn't have more offers at that kind of price. Good business for a guy averaging ~90m and 36 tackles a game shortly after making the switch to 2nd row.

I remember you saying this.
I can’t understand how he was happy to move to the Warriors in the first place. Mind you the move was last year and they were stuck in Aus with no idea of when they were returning to NZ

Canberra roster clean out expected after 2022 season: Canberra raiders "insiders" have said no matter where the team places this year, There will be a major clean out of the organisation this is coming off the 21-20 loss to the Warriors Saturday. Ceo Don Furner didn't hold back when asked about the loss stating "the players should be embarrassed with their performance" and defended under pressure coach Ricky Stuart stating " Ricky isn't out there throwing stupid passes"
Total 80's boys club there.
David Furner probably would have still been coach had he wanted the job.
They won't fire Ricky but I bet if they did they would have a "new idea" of hiring Tim Sheens.

Ricky is such a love/hate Rugby league genius. He can run a team hard or destroy it.

Remember Aiken scored a try for the Warriors on the weekend. What did our centres do, one of them let a try in.

I cannot believe there is no diamond in the rough we can pick up from another club that can play centre and is fast and seeking an opportunity?

Hope Peachey and Gildart board a plane to the UK soon to free up two more spots.

im not adverse to the signing of Aitken gives us cover in positions we are vert light in, plays 80 hes solid without being outstanding. Sometimes you need those dependable players in your ranks especially if we have juniors coming through the system that may break through in the next year or so.

Also @THE_POM Or @Lee's fedora any rumblings about whether or not Garner may be retained?
Garner told the club in pre season he would be leaving to head to manly this was before kelmas deal was done I don't think anything has changed with him leaving but it won't be to manly. Redcliffe , Penrith and ESL are the options for him so far

Re a centre. Jesse Arthur’s would of been a decent get. I’m sure there is others out there in a similar position
Hymel Hunt, Isaah Tass, Joseph Paulo, Morgan Harper could all be starting centre but none of which you would be jumping at to sign.
Though with AJ back and To’a filling in ATM I a backup centre is really only a short term requirement.

Maybe with Manly running short of forwards we could swap Tuilagi for Harper.

Both are 23 with Harper playing 35 games of NRL with 13 tries and Tuilagi playing 11 games of NRL and 2 tries.

From all reports Tuilagi is leaving us this year and if Aiken is a mid season signing put Aiken at Second Row and Harper in the Centres was Toa the other one.

Win/Win

Time for recruitment to start making some moves. No Kelma, probably no Mikaele, probs no Tamou, no Garner. None of these blokes are world beaters but they'll be better than any 20yo we have in KOE Cup or Flegg. And if the plan is to play those 20yos I guess we'll see them a bit this season.

Euan Aitken set to meet with Wests Tigers officials for a potential move in 2023
I like it, he is a no nonsense player.
I've been saying since preseason that I would sign Tapine if he becomes available.
He ticks all the boxes, defense, offloads, strong and big minutes.
Throw in Bird and that would be a good blend to go with who we'll have already in 2023.
