Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Don't get your hopes up on Tapine... Not sure where that info is from but he is one player Canberra are not willing to unload at this stage. He is free to negotiate from November 1 though.

Matterson will not be back at the Tigers. He does not have many suitors in the NRL - for good reason.

Few have already mentioned but Aitken has popped up in the last few days and is looking likely as a second row/centre option. Jackson Topine and Matt Doorey have also been discussed. Topine could be a mid season acquisition and has been performing very well in reserve grade and has always had big raps. Doorey is a good friend of Stefano and Talau who would add to the back row stocks for next season.

Outside of the Tigers, Reece Walsh will be at the Dolphins next season. Dolphins also after Munster (no surprise there).

Farnworth is between Brisbane and Dolphins as he wants to stay in Brisbane. Cobbo looking like he will stay at Broncos.

Dogs have been enquiring about CNK who has been made available by his manager. Dont be surprised if Jarrod Croker retires at the end of this year and takes up a position within the Canberra club.

Is there a reason we aren’t after CNK to play centre? He’s played centre under Madge before

Didn’t we try real hard to get Aitken for 2020? He snubbed us back then, so what makes us believe he’s looking at WT any differently now?

Wighton has rejected his option and will be testing the market this year. He did it in the off season
Canberras last 5/8 did the same didn’t he - didn’t work so well…

Wighton is a centre, who’s getting paid too much to be played there…
Playing him at 1,6 etc. they’re ruining his career…

Ok, surprised he isn’t spoken about as a dolphins option. Former Dally M winner, would be an attraction as a marquee for 23.
I think he's the most overrated player in the NRL. He plays too dumb to be a consistent half without others carrying the game management workload and he's always been hopeless for NSW. Single handedly cost NSW the series in 2020 with his awful defence of Capewell for 3 games

Correct and we do not need another bloke who’s thinks he is a fullback. We need a bloke who is a fullback.
Wighton can play and would be good at the right price for centre.

I cannot believe that we are looking for improved recruitment yet in the last 4 pages I have seen names tossed up like Jesse Arthurs, Morgan Harper and Jack Wighton.

How about we not recruit from struggling sides and focus on the rated juniors from Penrith, Storm and Roosters that cannot get a gig due to the volume of talent these clubs have.

I have a lot or time for Tapine and believe Aitken has merit too - but again if true we are recruiting from teams already struggling.
We recruited Laurie and AJ from that vertical market you mention. I agree with your point, but it doesn’t guarantee success with retention when we are successful..eg. Luci.
I’d be looking for a couple of 100 gamers for our backline? Or a Burton? Does he see himself as a half? I see him as a centre.

It would be hard to attract players from Canberra especially those with families as the lifestyle is good. Despite what some write about Ricky, he commands loyalty and respect.

Good point however doesn't look like a happy camp. Heard Gus point out there junior teams aren't doing great either so unsure where the success is going to come from. Think they're in a bit of a hole.

I think WT fans want us to do what Storm have been success at. They have identified players like Nick Meaney, Reimis Smith, Jahrome Hughes, Josh King who came from struggling clubs or unable to get regular NRL spots and now they are regular NRL players and Hughes is one of the better half backs and now on big money and a premiership winning half.. All players did not cost Storm big money when they came across.

Aiken and Tapine in my opinion would strengthen our 2023 team and hoping Aiken can transfer mid season as we need a centre/second rower option better than we currently have.

In Canberra....
You sure? - There's nothing to do there (except "Go Down The Coast" Every Weekend...)
And it's the coldest place in the world.

That's why they been buying players from England.

Don't know he "thinks" that - Just where they been playing him....
Seems to try do his job, And no doubt he'd have played in those positions a bit as a kid.
Just not his natural positions
