Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

IMO end of the year is the perfect time to swap Brooks for someone good. He is playign better but is still not Hastings or Douehi who should be our halves next year. Given Adam a little while to recover this year in the centres and then swap Brooks for a Prop. At the moment all we have next year is Musgrove, Twal and Stefano and we need an experienced prop so perhaps swap Brooks for Klemmer or Tapine.

Add Aitken to our backrow stocks and then re-sign Talau and Madden.

Let Liddle and Tuki Simpkins go and replace them with an outside back and another 2nd rower

Unless we have ready made replacements letting players go at the moment further weakens the squad. Clubs are desperate for players and know what they want, but they are just not available, or any good ones that are, are inflating their value. We can't assume that we can easily replace what we have got with better, and the younger players are increasingly not transitioning as effectively as is needed.

This Raiders fire sale is interesting.
Just checked zero tackle for off contract lists. Has it been mentioned that Jack Wighton has an option in his favour for the following two years so as of now he is effectively off contract.
Pretty much exactly the same contract as Newcastle and Kayln Ponga were harassed for how has this escaped the media?
jack wighton as a centre would be great, he is not a five eighths backside but a good centre though

- but again if true we are recruiting from teams already struggling.
If a team is struggling, that has no implication to say that the entire 30 man squad then is poor. Oftentimes, recruiting a good, solid or great player from an average team is the most common route for most teams.

Look at the Roosters poaching Tedesco from a struggling Tigers side.

I think WT fans want us to do what Storm have been success at. They have identified players like Nick Meaney, Reimis Smith, Jahrome Hughes, Josh King who came from struggling clubs or unable to get regular NRL spots and now they are regular NRL players and Hughes is one of the better half backs and now on big money and a premiership winning half.. All players did not cost Storm big money when they came across.

Aiken and Tapine in my opinion would strengthen our 2023 team and hoping Aiken can transfer mid season as we need a centre/second rower option better than we currently have.
Apart from whatever is going on in a player's personal life, the dominant buy-in motives would have to be money and winning. There's probably not a player who doesnt like winning, and money is as usual a biproduct of winning, making a success of whatever your obsession happens to be.
This makes Storms job easier because they can point to their past successes' stories. e.g. Addo Carr, Papenhuyzen etc, who were going nowhere at their club, but showing signs they had a future image of success firmly planted in their minds. This is also subtly recognising the club's skill at identifying players by way of a particular profile, both psychologically and physically.
Success is like compound interest, the more you get the more you get.
My point is, the job becomes harder when the future you are selling to an incoming player is not one of money or success, but needs to be "opportunity."
I cant imagine that the difference between the clubs, when it comes to identifying potentially very good players, is all that great? I mean thats what they do 24/7? they must all be very good at it?

100% whatever it takes... would look awesome lining up next to the Ute in the front row or even as lock.

I think our middles have been OK... Certainly don't need another one for next year.
If he was taking Joffa spot I can see it making sense - Or if we lose Tamou next year.. Especially with Tapine, he'll cost us...
For mine - I would be looking to Keep Tamou on (At least 1 more year) - But He may head back to Panthers and take Eisenhuths spot?

Would be good for the young fellas we have coming through for another year or so...

Unless we're paying Tapine to play on an edge - I think we're more short in other areas.... Maybe Madge is trying to re-invent 2014 when he had half a tonne of Burgess running straight up the guts

I would keep Tamou for 2023.

This pack for 2023 excites me.

Ogahengaue
Tapine (rumour)
Papalii
Utoikananu
Koroisau
Tamou

Bench options

Twal
Musgrove
Aiken (in talks for mid season or 2023. Would take Garner's utility role)
Blore
Sione Fainu
Jake Simpkin (learning off of Koroisau)
Seyfarth
Tommy Talau (Forum members say he is big enough to go into forwards)

Other guys on development can have another year to develop as they lost years with Covid and lack of junior games. Hopefully there are a couple of rough diamonds in this group ready for next step.

I am assuming Garner and Peachey are gone with the other noted departures.

We recruited Laurie and AJ from that vertical market you mention. I agree with your point, but it doesn’t guarantee success with retention when we are successful..eg. Luci.
I’d be looking for a couple of 100 gamers for our backline? Or a Burton? Does he see himself as a half? I see him as a centre.

It would be hard to attract players from Canberra especially those with families as the lifestyle is good. Despite what some write about Ricky, he commands loyalty and respect.
Guessing Burton and his manager see him as a half since they are usually worth double what a centre is.
