Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Small observation on our forward targets:

Papa plays right side
Nikora plays right side
Aitken plays right side
Lucy plays right side

More I look at the recruitment more I can see if we could snare Nikora then Papa is in the middle as a starting partner for Stefano.

That then leaves us with a left edge backrower shortage.

Angus plays on the left and is the best left backrower on the market. Hope we go hard for him.
With only Blore our Left edge backrower who will need time to come back from injury (takes forwards a good 12-18mths to get back to fitness levels)

If we did that would make our forward pack very mouth watering:

Stefano
Api
Papa
Angus
Nikora
Joffa

Bench
Simpkin
Musgrove
Twal
Blore
honestly if we sign Angus he's gonna cost at least $700k. throw in Paps at $600k and we're suddenly we're in a bit of trouble in terms of bending the cap out of shape on back rowers. would rather us invest in either Seyfarth or O'Kane and/or go to market for a mid-range back rower like Aitken or Doorey to fill the void while the young kids develop.

Seyfarth doesn't offer anything when we have the ball and blokes like Aiken are just wasted cap space and don't improve the team. There's space to sign more high price players and fill the top 30 with kids on low contracts. Our issues previously is we keep signing blokes like Aiken for above market value and therefore blow our cap on crap

Aitken at $350k for 2 years is a decent shout imo. basically a like for like replacement for Garner with more attacking upside. means we've got cap space to throw the bank at a strike centre and a decent front rower. Crichton on double that means we've got too much money tied up in the back row, and the dogs have shown that's not the way forward.

Agreed....
I tend to think you have your big buy prop - And the other guy who does a job - probably not a top tier rep player on much less money...
Same with 2nd row, Centres & Wingers... Even halves to an extent.

Although, Parra are getting away with it (Somehow) 2 Well paid Props - Matto and Lock Well Paid - Both Halves Well Paid....

They've kicked a couple goals wit Penrith still kicking in for RCG & Waqa - Getting Papalli for a couple hundred k... They won't get that kind of leg up again....

I don't get this place at times, do we want to push for the finals or just do the same old.

Seyfarth isn't the answer and is heavily overrated on this forum.
Wanting Seyfarth over Angus will do me. Seyfarth is already signed for next year also.

We a miles under the cap, after 2023 we free up another 1.5-2Mil of cap space for 2024 with Brooks, Ken & Peachey off contract add into that we also have AD/Joffa and a few others on very good coin off contract and we have more cash than players who are available.

We can easily grab 2 key players + over the next 1-2yrs.

I can see where they are coming from but honestly we need good recruitment wins. Rep players in their prime and not here for a retirement that can pave the way for others to come. Yes Pap and Chrichton would put our cap a little bit out but it does give us a instant shot at success. Relying on some of these players could backfire badly. Get a few good players and mould the team around them. Even if it costs aus abit.

Papa played left side a big chunk of last year, that said I don't think it's a big issue for any to switch sides.

I hope Papa is still being looked at on an edge, he's way more effective out wide.

I actually don't see where they are coming from given how much cap room and flexibility we will have over the next 12-18mths to spend our money or when it comes to a quality player like Angus who just turned 26, doesn't have an injury history and is a full blown winner at every level.

600-700k isn't alot for a high quality forward with his CV. Prefer to spend 700k on Angus than the reported 550k on Nikora. Add to this after 2023 that's not even half of what Brooks/Peachey combined salary that's on the books covers = we still have cash to spend easily on other upgrades.
