Michael Maguire leaves club

Iam not so pro Madge, more I don’t see the point in flicking coaches when the new coach will have basically the same plodders at his disposal. Okay if Bellyache wanted the gig or a coach that could actually attract players to the club maybe that would be different
Bellyache has only signed with the Storm till the end of 2023 @supercoach and that's when Madge's contract expires as well.
Who wants Bellamy the most...Us or the Dogs???????

And if it takes the next guy 4 years, I'll be asking the same question. Madge had a side that in 2019 was playing for a spot in the Finals on the last Sunday. They have since declined every Season, were now 15th. If we were slightly improving, I'd welcome his tenure being extended, but in my opinion it's a mistake.
Because stronger clubs pick off our players that are decent and we can't replace them, and our junior system that was once our strength has provided little. It's not a coach problem it's a club problem. And until there is some stability in the place and not half yearly reviews that are not good for anything other than creating media drama then the next coach will inherit the same challenges

I see Madge in a similar spot to when Newcastle made a call on Nathan brown.
Only diff is Newcastle were quickly building a squad ready to challenge.
We are still miles off the pace.
I’d consider Flanno or Green and give them the 3 year sheens philosophy. By year 3 we should be able to challenge for the finals if this squad continues to build. Flanno is the often mentioned candidate though Green is a possible smokie. If anything Green has proven that he can be adaptable to a rosters strengths and weaknesses.
2014 Lachlan Coote acl in pre season. Following that Michael Morgan goes to fullback after being essentially the Phoenix Crossland for the cowboys.
2015 Coote returns nails fullback and Morgan transitions seamlessly into 5/8.
Had players like our own David Nofo in Antonio Winterstien playing in peak form. Turned essentially a David Fifita edge impact player into an 80min lock.(Tamoulolo)
Then manages to repeat all the efforts again 2 years later without their two best players and captains.
The roster got old. Hence only 4 out of the 2017 gf side remain just 5 years later.
one thing Green had was Thurston and a better pack of forwards than us

I tell you what the big problem here is. The coach isn't that important. I could coach a great team assuming I could pick my support staff.

I used to manage projects. At one point we went from Waterfall project management to Agile project management. I was on a training course for Agile and the guy was an Agile expert. He said who is going to deliver - a good team with a Waterfall approach or a bad team with Agile ? The answer is the waterfall team.

I'll add that certain ideas should be banned on this forum:-

1. We can trade our players and somehow fix the team. Trades happen so rarely in the NRL that this is just a delusional comment.
2. Players who have contracts will leave us if Madge goes. If we've signed any player with a specific coach clause whoever created that contract is completely and utterly incompetent. I bet these clauses are similar to the trade ideas that people come up with i.e. it's a fantasy.

IMO Finucane is a bust; it's only going to get worse over 4 years. Moylan is a passenger. Hynes is a good footballer, yet to be seen if he can carry a team for a whole season.

McInnes tries hard but is not big enough or dynamic enough (has to be one or the other) to be a long-term lock.

Lots of injury concerns - e.g. lack of depth in the centres with Ramien down, having to play Connor Tracey and Talakai. They are still fielding Tolman, Fifita and Wade Graham who are all very well past their best.

They are comfortably a better side than the Tigers but I think they are a country mile of the top couple of sides, and I think their 2022 draw has flattered them. Like I said - 1 win from 4 attempts against Top 8 sides, plus two losses to Canberra inside 12 rounds.

I watch Sharks very closely every week because a mate of mine is a mad Sharks supporter. He is not overly optimistic that Sharks are going to the next level.
G'day @jirskyr You've given an interesting and respectful review of the makeup of the Sharks Team.
I'm Really Interested in reading Your review of Our Wests Tigers Team/Players.
With respect...I feel it may open a few peoples eyes on here.

Yep....
Like when it was "Time for a change" and "Can't hurt" to elect Kevin 07 as prime minister
- Worked a treat!!
Just for clarification? What did Kevin do that was so wrong ? Got us out of the GFC , got us an infrastructure project that whilst expensive was more than any liberal government prior was ever prepared to do , and ruined up the moment they got it back. Apoligised ! Whilst was a scary for some issue back then , started the process to things like welcome to country etc .
Got us out of work choices , which would have been the beginning of the end of this country . Got us out of semi privatised Medicare .
Began the trade to Asia / china .

There's a simple solution.
Maintain Maguire as a figurehead for the rest of the season. He can do the motherhood speeches, cry for the journos after the game, and give his mind numbing address to the players before the game.
Sheens can do anything that involves actual thinking and coaching.
Problem solved.
Do you remember the later years of Sheen's ? Fair dinkum. His team selections were bad as.

I'd be VERY interested to know if Bomber Morris is even interested in the Tigers job and/or has thrown his hat in the ring.

I mean I'd love to have Craig Bellamy come over and replace Madge, but it's not about hypotheticals, it's about people who are qualified and want to be Tigers coach.

It's all well and good to be volunteering people.

For what it's worth, I would accept Morris being brought in to replace Madge. I don't believe Sheens would, nor should he be given coaching oversight or seniority (which is something you have previously suggested).

I don't think there's any strong argument that John Morris will be a good long-term coach and a good fit for Tigers, but I also think he is one of the lower-risk options available. Just to be clear - they are all high risk options, but I think Morris is less "high risk" than someone like Flanagan, Paul Green, Barrett etc.

I think Flanagan has good history bringing through juniors?

I have seen a few comments as to why now and not wait till end of season. The reaso n why it needs to be done now and not end of the season is we have 14 players who are free to negotiate November 1 when you add that to 5 spots free for next year we have 2/3 of our squad where signing decisons need to be made in the next 6 months so you need to know the coach for 2024 now for players and coach to make those decisions now. So imo either Madge goes now or we extend him past the end of 2023.

In particular we have Hastings, Doeuhi, Brooks, Laurie in 2023 as well as Madden this year. Thats huge decision that needs to be made in next couple of months.

Laurie looks half decent to be honest..still needs to work on a few things but going forward I'd like to lock him up.

Happy with Hastings. Brooks staying or going he will be on a massively reduced contract.

Don't think Madden will stay.

I'd be interested to learn if there is a ring to throw your hat into. Despite what is written on this forum, I still believe it is a prestigious appointment and imo there will be any number of candidates who apply if EOI are sought. Some may be more than suitable, others may not. Well into our fourth year, it is not a a high benchmark to surpass.

This. Does Madge impact this in any way ? The big things to get right are these contract negotiations. I reckon Madden is gone and maybe one of Brooks or Doueihi goes depending on money.

All of them should realize they can be moved into a different position if we need them too.

Laurie was good last week but he has had a poor season. We need players that perform to a high level regularly. I reckon we should keep him though. He needs work but he can play.
