We all loved Teddy. But even after what some would perceive as a decent season in 2015 within our poorly performing team that year, he wasn’t spoken about outside our circle. The raiders were looking to reshape their roster after releasing Dugan and were looking at a young up and comer.
He was showing plenty but was also far from consistent.
If I’m being honest, Teddy was the equivalent to what Walsh is now for the warriors for us back then. A sure talent but inconsistent and far from the finished product.
Laurie is a tier down I’ll admit. And if I was to compare him to someone equivalent to the group of senior fullbacks in the game now it would be Clint Gutherson.
I’m sure everyone would love Teddy or Walsh for that matter in their team. But there’s only one of them to go around, why not persist with the next best?
This is why I’m happy with Laurie, get him into some proper running / sprint training and he’ll break out.
Would of scored on the weekend if he had a high leg running style.

Teddy was the City Origin fullback in 2013 (First year off injury)
Well before he made Blues Origin.
Unless Mick Potter was the City Coach - It's obvious he was spoken about outside the Tigers.
I'm not a fan of Gutherson....
But you'd be the only person in Rugby League to have him and Laurie on similar pegging.
If you're rating all the starting fullbacks in the comp (Fairly) in 2022 - Laurie is 15th (Above Dufty)
- And that's not including the teams that have a back up Fullback that's probably above and beyond what Laurie offers.
I'm knock knocking Laurie (Here) But he's no where near the Gutherson level... (not that that's anything to be aiming at)

For starters, Tedesco was the left or right winger for the city origin team. I remember being annoyed he wasn’t considered for fullback.
Secondly. I made a comparison of Lauries potential progression. I did not say he is at Guthersons level I said if you were to say Walsh is equivalent to a rookie Tedesco that Laurie is the equivalent to a rookie Gutherson.
Gutherson has improved out of sight since he was appointed the fullback position full time. but mostly has focussed his game on effort plays and a incredibly high level of fitness as he lacks the brilliance of the other fullbacks at the top of the game.
Fair enough he is 15th right now. He is also the 2nd youngest fullback in the comp.
There is no time like the present with some of you guys.

Suaali has a year by year contract and he is probably looking for an upgrade after making the extended SOO squad. The Rorters might not be able to upgrade him.
It's worth a shot.
It could also lead to someone like Angus Crichton being released.
I agree we don't have much chance with the other players.

I'm not sold on Laurie. He has been poor this season. His best game was last week.
I agree in relation to your point on the development of players. Not every player comes in and kills it from a young age.

How do you guys rate a fullback?
In only 7 games this season D.Laurie is the highest ranking (7 games, 7 assists,15rh) of all fullbacks in the NRL for try assists, R Walsh is ranked (11 games, 6 assists, 24th).
D.Laurie would even rate much higher (top 5) if the ranking was done by averages which is 1 per game for Daine, are we still not grateful to have this rookie fullback?

Watch the games, not the stats. You don’t get stats for a lot of the important moments in a football game.
Whilst I keep reading you suggest that Brooks would make a better fullback than a half, I’ll remain firm with my thoughts about Laurie.

You're thinking when he came back from the second big Injury (2014-15 maybe)
I'm comparing Laurie based on all aspects of a Fullbacks game,
Age is a factor sure, Brimson, Paps are a similar age to DL and been stars for years now...
Campbell is a similar age also - Daine's behind him from my POV
Miles behind Walsh.... I can't think of any other young fellas.
Daines doing a job, But if he's not where we should be looking to as our ceiling in that position.
He lacks effort a lot of the time - And in that position... It's the foundation of your game.
My whole reply was to the notion that Tedesco wasn't really rated in the game before he played origin....
That's just rubbish!!
I start with Effort - He lacks that in spades.
I want to analyse the basics
Fullback - good under high ball, fast, can make line break ,try assist
Good hands LAURIE ticks the boxes
Wingers- good under high ball , good hands , good finishers, big meters hitups
don't go into touch ,can tackle NOFOALOMA & MAUMALO tick the boxes
Centers -good hands , fast ,line breaks , support line breaks can tackle
NADEN,ROBERTS, DOUEHI tick the boxes
Halves 6/7 .above all instinctive playmakers ,good kicking game, fast, error free
Organiser HASTINGS ticks the boxes,im personally not sure BROOKS does
Q -is he instinctive ,eyes up footy ?, Q- is his kicking game good?MADDEN maybe?
Dummy half -must be great tackler, must be quick to play the ball , good passing game , well timed dummy half runs
SIMPKIN -I Feel trys hard but a bit small gets pummelled by opposing forwards, LIDDLE -a little more robust but suspect passing game
NU BROWN . too early to tell but signs good might be great dummy half or utility
Forwards -must be tough ,fit ,great tacklers and above all bend opposition line
back ,not get bent back ourselves .I'm not sure we have many that do that
Thinking of next year we have papalii, api ,steph ( if fit) ,twal, musgrove,blore
I FEEL THIS IS WHERE WE NEED 2 or3 additional top class recruits !!!

You could see Tedesco would play for Australia in his first 10-15 games imo. Silly to compare him to anyone else as he’s miles ahead in the position.

Mate i do watch the games and i am relatively pleased with how he's playing and developing, but sometimes you just need to provide some stats to support your talking point.
I said after the Roosters trial in 2012 - I wouldn't swap him for Slater...
15 months earlier Roosters were runners up
It was that obvious then that he was beyond good - Made Mini look like Beau Ryan at fullback for one of his tries....
Here's a thought, If he stays on the field in 2012
- Do we make finals
- Does Gareth Ellis go home and not fill out his contract
- Does Sheens get speared
- Does where we are now ever happen?
History will never know....

Good comeback.
Laurie hasn't been good this year. I reckon Brooks is worth a shot there. What does Laurie do better than Brooks at this point in their careers ?
I'm not trying to hack Laurie either. He was good last week and I like the kid.
