Wests Tigers Coaches

You can put a line through Ciraldo, have heard from someone in the Panthers organization that he will decline the Tiger's offer and stay at Penrith. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Not disputing what you say, but from all reports he is a man who is very thorough in his thought processes and actions. I would be surprised if he has made up his mind that quickly and secondly that we have officially put a contract in front of him yet.
If he has made up his mind then you would think it would be put to bed immediately to avoid the speculation. It could very well just be the opinion of someone at Penrith.

I agree with the sentiment though and feel like you will be right with the end result.

We have to wait and see but if Ciraldo declines you have to respect him for his commitment to the Panthers.

John Morris was always my first pick. He's great with development, educated and has WTs' DNA.

Payten as always is excellent. We can send up LL and get Payten in return. We would come out on top. Madge could then head to the Cowboys to renew his acquaintance with LL.

Flanagan is a great coach as well. The club may have concerns.

There will always be heaps of good options for a first grade coaching position.

I bet there are other options as well. Noddy could do the job. Maybe one of the Tigers assistant coaches could do the job.

I would rate Morris on a par with Ciraldo, but I get the feeling CC might have a bit more pulling power in the player market. Although Morris must have some pull in the Sharks pathways system

Anyway bottom line it needs to be done ASAP as we need some retrenchment and recruitment to be done

Ciraldo has 5 young kids. He won't leave the financial security of the Panthers gig. He knows once Ivan goes the throne is his.
Coming here he might find him and his family living out of their car in 2.5 years.

Is there anyone else with limited experience we could entice? Don Kershane put forward a name I’m not familiar with? Sid Fogg. His background seems to suggest he is the round peg we’ve been looking for.

Sliding doors for assistant coach

Cameron Ciraldo is edging towards signing with the Wests Tigers on a long-term deal as head coach, but he knows it’s a pivotal moment in his life and career.

It won’t be talked about publicly, but there’s definitely an unwritten plan at Penrith for Ciraldo to replace Ivan Cleary when he eventually decides to hang up the clipboard and potentially move into another role at the club. Cleary doesn’t see himself still coaching beyond the next five or six years and has made that point to many people privately. But it’s a big call to ask Ciraldo to hang on for that long when an opportunity is knocking now.

I’m told the Tigers are feeling increasingly confident that they’ve got their man.

I don't get the love for Morris, and I certainly don't get the notion that he has Tigers DNA. He played what, 2 seasons with us and proved he wasn't up to it so moved on. Well, I guess that does sound like Tigers DNA doesn't it. Too soft on players too apparently.

Flanno is the only man for the job in my opinion. When will the Tigers ever be able to entice a premiership winning coach that has never been sacked due to failed on field performance? They are never available.

No way...

Reasons below:
He lives close to Tigers area so would not have to move family
Would get paid more with us as a HC over his current assistant
Ivan is there for at least another 5 years so no chance at Panthers
If its a 5 year deal he would get paid out anyway if it didn't work out
IF it didn't work out he would find a assistant job again without a problem..

This is a golden opportunity for him as most new coaches need to take lower team jobs with the top club coaches locked in for a reason..

IMO I don't think he will take it but who's knows.

Not only does he know how to win, I doubt he’ll sign snowflakes. Much like Madge but not totally hampered by Slyvan.

Bomber played 3 years with us, never missed a game through injury or suspension, always tried his guts out, Sheens just used him poorly, he done a great job coaching at the Sharks.
In saying that my preference would be 1- Ciraldo 2- Flanagan 3- Morris

The point is made further down in the article that is quoted, but assuming Ciraldo does hang around for the Panthers job - exactly when is Ivan stepping down or being sacked? 5-6 years?

What if Ivan changes his mind after 5 years, a la Craig Bellamy, or Penrith decide to make him an offer he cannot refuse at that time?

If I was Ciraldo and had ambitions to be Penrith Head Coach, I would be concerned that the current coach's son is now a club and Origin stalwart, which gives Cleary even more security. Ivan would have to be the most secure coach in 2022, tied with Bellamy.

So either Ciraldo has ambitions of being a Head Coach now, or he's not ready now, but all roads point to him having to take on a difficult assignment, because he's not actually experienced and successful clubs don't tend to sack their coaches.

Also, nobody who earns several hundred thousand dollars a year already, then takes on a Head Coach role of double value or more (almost certainly northwards of half a million dollars), needs to live in their car if they get sacked. In fact if Ciraldo has the bargaining power that the media reports, his payout on sacking would be huge and he would be very comfortable for a long time.
