Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

May have been a meeting to determine how much Hastings wants to be at the Tigers moving forward. Take it with a grain of salt but this was a post on The Kennel yesterday:

Hastings operates under the same limitations in terms of the forwards as Brooks. But if what I read on this forum is true, the drama that surrounds him is not worth it.

Young Panther Charlie Staines reportedly approached the Tigers about a club switch to play fullback — and his performance on the weekend suggests No.1 is indeed his best position.

Staines is stuck behind Dylan Edwards at Penrith and has fallen out of favour for a wing spot too with Taylan May taking over him.

While at fullback for Penrith’s NSW Cup side on Saturday, Staines set up a try, got a linebreak, a linebreak assist and four tackle busts. He also notched up 245 metres in their win 26-6 win over Newtown.

He must be joking!
We have the FB better than Staines already, Laurie >>>>> Staines!

When do mid season signings have to be finalised by? 30 June 2022.

With LL Cool J leaving do WT have 2 or 3 spots to fill in the roster for 2022.

The way Kelma Tuilagi has been performing maybe we should see if Manly have someone half decent to swap him mid season. His form has deteriorated over last month and maybe trying the Moses and LL Cool J method to leave the club early. So no point giving a player a top 17 spot when he is not performing irrespective of how the team is performing.

As well as Peachy potentially leaving (yes please) do Forum members believe Gildart (turning 26 in August) will hang around in 2023 or also ask for a release back to UK? Not many recent example of English backs doing well in the NRL. Yes I appreciate in the 80s and 90s English backs did well like Hanley and Schofields.
Farnworth is an interesting one - pommy born and bred, scouted by broncs while still at school in England and brought to Australia after school and put in their system and feeder club. I would think there would be a lot of similar kids playing schoolboy league in England. Getting them in to an NRL system and development before they go to Super League might be the way to go.

Farnworth's uncle from memory is or was the recruitment manager for Wigan.

I wouldn't believe much that comes out of the Kennel. Hell, I could have made that same crap up. The funny thing is that bulldogs are so deluded they actually think they are a desirable club to sign with. They as big a joke as us and I'd seriously doubt Hastings would leave us to go there.

If we are getting Ciraldo (big IF)
I would be trying to sign Staines and give him a shot at fullback (on minimum money)
Move Brooks on to Newy. Play Laurie or Douehli at 5/8.
IMHO players better than Laurie are (in the order of preference):
Tedesco, T Trbojevic, Ponga, Walsh.

All other NRL FBs are either as good or behind Laurie.🐅

As a credible source of information the bulldogs forum is up there with Pravda and the Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon believers

Would love WT to develop their own Farnworth and agree there is untapped potential in UK to explore. Recent UK born Super League backs have come to NRL with big reputations and been complete flops in my opinion.

I think WT fans just want to see some progress not another Coach sacked or going through another rebuilding phase or pay overs for has beens like Peachey.

Going be a long road yet for WT to climb up the ladder. Good luck to the Coach who takes on this challenge.

Agree. At least Laurie is at the start of his development and I'd love to see what CC could do with him.
As far as Teddy and Turbo goes, their is a huge risk with injuries considering the coin they are on.
I'd rather pay less for a rough diamond.
Debatable point I know.

Laurie is coming along fine.

This year he has improved his defensive positional play and his ability to straighten the attack in backline sweeps and second man plays. He has been sniffing around the middle a little more too, but that is a work in progress.

He is progressing nicely in my opinion.

I find it amusing there is a deep discussion there about our coach - or lack there of....
But they are Bulldogs fans...
Who's their coach?

I have no interest in who their coach will be - I don't know why they'd be banging on endlessly about ours....
