Manly Inclusive Pride jersey backlash

Just heard players agree to wear jersey next year, only if they are consulted
great outcome. LETS ALL MOVE FORWARD TOGETHER

This is an awesome outcome. I heard the Manly owner talk and I reckon he handled this like a boss.

I suppose we have to wait and see what happens next year but it's all looking much better than I expected.

We won't all move forward together but we should. There would have been people complaining about women getting the right to vote and gay people being allowed to marry but if we stick to the principle that all people are equal in relation to their gender, sexuality or ethnic background then we will be fine.

No one should be judged on their gender, sexuality or ethnic background. We should be judged on our opinions and actions.

BREAKING

After the successful and heart-warming reception of the pride jerseys by the large Manly crowd at yesterday's game, the Manly club has now decided that the team will wear the jerseys for the rest of the season.

This means and would put Aloiai and his teammates under great pressure to either find a new club or try to work out a deal with their church pastor to give them an exclusion to wear the inclusion pride jerseys.

So if they don’t want to wear the jersey because of their religious beliefs you are judging them?

I don’t understand why it needed to be pushed into sport or by the NRL. We are all welcome to play sport nobody has said gay men can’t play football or soccer etc lesbians can’t play footy or soccer , this has been a move by one group and supported by Manly and the NRL that has caused a divide , those players who stood down have as much right with there religion as anyone with there ideas and beliefs , the rainbow community only worry about the self’s , Ian Roberts is a perfect example needing to sit down with the guys who didn’t play , what is Roberts going to do Except pump them with his ideas , keep it out of sport

If like a boss means.......

Completely ostracising 7 members of the squad and hanging them out to be crucified on social media...or,
Completely disrupting the season by creating division in the squad...or,
Completely embarrassing the club and having them negatively in the news for a week...or,
Completely screwing their chances of winning this round, and probably missing the 8 as a result,,...or,
Completely overshadowing Women in League round for no reason whatsoever and ruining that for all the women who deserve it...

Then yeah.....like a boss.

EDIT: I dont mean to chase you around on this topic Earl. Happy to leave it there.

Hey - please forgive me - I don't wish to hijack this thread, but champion @CloudyGlock - any player transfer news you'd like to share?

@THE_POM is your man, the original and the best of the rest......

You need to be a lot more specific. I don't care if they believe in God or go to church every week or more. I judge them on their homophobic beliefs and that issue only.

Religion is not an excuse for homophobia. Just like it's not an excuse for terrorism or circumcision of women.

That is why we live in a secular society and discrimination against people due to their religion, sexuality, gender and ethnicity is illegal.

Just to add - I feel sorry for them assuming they have changed their viewpoint. Their viewpoints on the LGBT community were abhorrent but I assume they now have increased respect towards the LGBT community.

Do you support homophobia ?

Compare the indigenous players' refusal to sing the anthem to the Polynesian players' refusal to wear a pride jersey and most people will take a position based on their political biases rather than consistency of principle.

Personally, I hate the fact that our dirge of an anthem is played before interstate games. It is needlessly jingoistic and dare I say, political. And I fully support the players who refused to sing the anthem for cultural reasons.

By the same token, I am fine with the Polynesian players refusing to wear a pride jersey even though I consider their views regressive. That the players are content to endorse other vices like gambling and alcohol detracts from their credibility, but they're entitled to their views.

I think this issue is much bigger than women in league or the clubs position on the ladder.

I also think you can't face issues like this without their being some friction and you have to stand strong and be principled.

I think the Manly boss has done that. He has also exposed abhorrent beliefs within society. I said earlier and I'll say it again. Hiding issues like this to me is wrong. Facing issues like this is right. Sure there will be fallout. That is life.

I feel sorry for the players with the caveat that they have changed their opinions of the LGBT community. I feel sorry that they have been characterized rightly as bigoted across the world but we've also been bundled in that little bracket.

It'll pass.

Mate you are a judgemental tosser and every post you make proves what a nasty person you are.
I don’t know why you think you are so virtuous. All I see on any of these social topics on here is a guy incapable of seeing an alternate viewpoint.

FYI the Manly boss thought he was signing off on race, religion, gender, disability and sexual orientation inclusivity with a focus on mental health charities and organisations. Somehow, this has all become a focus on the alphabet brigade.
The fact it was launched during Women in League round was a bad mistake that he acknowledges.

Its a stunt and a very poorly timed one.
To try and overshadow Women in League round was pathetic.
To not discuss this action with the team was amatureish.
They have now lost a game they likely win with the inclusion of the 7 who sat it out.
It's not a stunt if the Manly hierarchy believe in it. And even then, almost certainly not a stunt for the LGBTQI community.

I would never expect 2022 Manly to assume to bank a win against Roosters, even with a full side.

So if I agree with the players stand does that make me homophobic, even though one of my closest mates is gay and also supports the players for refusing to wear the jerseys.
