Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The argument that Brooks as an individual isn't the soul reason we didn't make finals isn't a valid reason for another contract extension. By that logic we should have kept Mybe, Packer, Reynolds, Blair...the list goes on

No Brooks is a better player than those you mentioned but all the blame every week every year is put on the little fellas shoulders, we need better players. Take him out of the team the last 3 or four years do we play finals? No we don't, not until our roster and coaching is improved which looks like it is getting there. I don't care if he stays or goes but the way he is treated is poor but i firmly believe with a better roster than we have had he will be fine.

I know there different situations since we have Hastings playing 13 who is pretty much playing halfback

But the titans let Jamal Fogarty go to back a younger half who showed a lot of potential and I think we can all see they regret that alot

The knights let Mitchell pierce go for off field reason but I think we call all see there young halfs are struggling this year

Brooks has a lot of experience he is a decent player there is no arguing that.
I think letting him go to replace him with madden could be successful but until it happens we will never know

There is a good reason a lot of clubs are begging for an experienced halfback

I’m not sure what the answer is but what ever decision the club makes I’ll back them

Wests Tigers have put an offer to Brooks management for $2.3M for the next 3 years including the final year on his current contract. Tiger for life.
I am a dumb arse so please be gentle CG.
Does that mean if he accepts he will be earning 766k from now till the end of the 2025 season?
If that's the case it's not a huge contract is it?
I think that offering a contract at this price saves face and not insulting considering his average form.
He would get better offers elsewhere and most likely move on, everyone is a winner.
Or am I missing something? 🤔

You are correct on all fronts…..no such thing as a dumb question here…

If we we're to take the long serving player allowance of it - Could get it down under 600k....

Probably not bad business.

The way I understand it (but may be very wrong) is that the rules don't allow contract values to be reduced within the time period of the contract, only upgraded. So as part of his extension we still need to pay his current contract value by the end October next year.
I would guess that the restructured offer of 2.3m over the next 3 years would be (his reported) 1.2m next season (though with some of that likely included in this year's cap) and probably an upgrade of say about 200k this season. Making his 24 and 25 salary about 450k per season. Which if you then add in the 100k concession it's only 350k on the cap.

Re. the contract extension for Brooks, I doubt he’ll play a traditional HB role, not while Hastings is running the team from lock. He’ll play more of a 5/8 role on the left using his pace to create overlaps. I don’t mind it as long as the price is right. Also creates a good balance with AD playing more of a power role on the right edge. Everyone can see we’ve improved a heap with Hastings at lock. If we can save some $$ on Brooks contract, we can use that to attract some backs with real pace & forwards who can dominate the ruck.
