NRL admits bunker mistake

Just for the record I note it says that “ prominent barrister Yaseen Shariff SC has been engaged to explore the legal options”,
My information( which I thought was correct) was that it was Arthur Moses SC, however, if that’s wrong, I stand corrected, and apologise to all WTF members for advising incorrect information,
Will have to double check everything in future !
Go Wests Tigers !
People make mistakes... It's a grey area! 🤣

Seriously though, we are all talking off the cuff and say what we believe to be the case at the time.

Gracious to apologise, but personally I'm more upset that now my "Moses" joke in a previous post is null and void! 🤣

Thanks very much for posting that @WT2K.

My thoughts:

What a load of crap.

- Thanks for the lesson on how to equivocate and attempt to placate we imbeciles by using shallow rhetoric that only further emphasises the condescending attitude the NRL has towards this matter and the club.

“Tigers fans should be happy that lee and Justin prosecuted their case well,”

Please.

"Could you BE any more patronising?" - Chandler Bing, 1990 something...

They have shown they have no moral leg to stand on. They know it, they know everyone knows it and are handling this like rank amateurs.

- "Was the captain's challenge legal because of the challenge?".

Seriously?! Is this actually what he said verbatim?! 😳

He has obviously never heard the saying:
It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought an idiot than to open it and have it proven.

- IT IS NOT A GREY AREA! It is called a captain's challenge because it is intended to be used TO CHALLENGE A REFEREE'S RULING!

I'm so sick and tired of hearing this shit. Next time I'm pulled over for doing 120 on the freeway I'll just say "Well, yes, the signs say 100, but it's a grey area...". 🙄

- "There were probably other mistakes which impacted the Cowboys.”

I literally have no idea how to respond to such a preposterous statement...

- Thank God this isn't the Premier League. The tigers would be in the relegation zone and those points could have potentially meant the difference between staying up and going down. Which is worth absolutely £millions.

As time goes by it makes me more and more pissed off. All I had hoped for was an apology and acknowledgement they stuffed up.

But now I really do hope it goes as far as it can, the tigers win a court case, get the 2 points and financial compensation.

Seriously, the amount of emotional and psychological damage this has done to me I think I deserve a free Happy Meal or something!

It is now my dream to have a supreme court judge rule against the NRL and award damages of 1 Happy Meal for every Tigers fan who has had to deal with this absolute farce.
nice word is 'equivocate'

I don't care for the 2 points. I just want the NRL exposed in a court of law and those tapes played for all to hear. We have been the leagues whipping boys for to long and its about time we stand up as a club and hit them front on. The NRL have never made decisions to benefit us in everything they do. Its time to expose their bullshit.

This. At this stage, the two points are irrelevant. This is about taking a stand and holding the referee's and the NRL accountable. The fact is that a match offical went against clearly stated rules to interfere in a game and literally decide the winner. This isn't a case of a wrong call at the 60th minute or even the 75th minute.

If they had nothing to hide, Lee would have the tapes.

Vlandy saying you don't need the tapes because I heard them and there's nothing to hide so just trust me !
No we don't your hiding something it stinks
Thanks Pete, we'll confirm your findings after the 20,000 Wests Tigers members and the other 380,000 plebs have had the opportunity to review the tapes.

I'm sure if there is nothing to hide that we will all come to a similar conclusion.

That may not be consistent but it is fair.

ARLC chairman Peter V’landys said he understood the Tigers’ frustrations but hoped they would not commence legal action.

“Tigers fans should be happy that lee and Justin prosecuted their case well,” V’landys said on Triple M. “We can understand their frustration and where they are coming from. But it sets an awful precedent to change a game and change the points. Otherwise you will be in court every second weekend.

“The referee makes mistakes and they usually even out in the match. There were probably other mistakes which impacted the Cowboys.”

The Tigers were beaten in the final second of the game against the Cowboys a fortnight ago when North Queensland were awarded a penalty following a successful captain’s challenge by the home side.

V’landys said the referral to the bunker caused the greatest angst for the Tigers.

“Was the captain’s challenge legal because of the challenge,” V’landys said “It’s a grey area. I heard (from) NRL management and the Tigers. I can see it’s a little bit ambiguous. We need to fix it and make the rule clearer. That’s what we will do at the end of the year.

“I’m confident the Tigers will accept the decision.”

The next step for the Tigers would be to pursue legal action and take the matter to court to chase the points. They hope to have a decision by Monday at the latest as they look for closure on the issue.

Prominent barrister Yaseen Shariff SC, has been engaged by the Tigers to explore their legal options. (DT)
Get the distinct impression some kind of deal may have already been worked out at the meeting with V'Landys and all that remains is for it to be rubber stamped by the WT Board

Okay, so admittedly I may be being a bit paranoid about this, but in my line of work it often comes in very handy to check a file's "owner" (last person to have it open, when that was) or version history. It's literally a 'virtual paper trail'.

I don't use it to go and abuse anyone; there are inexperienced people who can (understandably) make mistakes or I may just need to know why a change has been made. If I know who did it, I can either help the person understand and learn from the mistake, or simply know what's going on.

My point is (not always clear! 🤣) that there is no hiding when the video footage was taken - it was broadcast live Australia wide.

But the audio is a different matter.

From the TV coverage we can hear parts of a conversation - what the referee said to Tamou, the bunker, not to mention a possibly to become infamous "no escorts" call.

But what was said by the bunker (Klein) to Sutton immediately following the kick off is to date unknown to anyone outside a select group.

This is the crux of the entire issue.

* by the way, am I wrong in thinking that the bunker is simply not allowed to just talk to the ref whenever they want during play?
Please do correct me, but I'm under the impression that they can only be involved when reviewing tries or captain's challenges?

(I'm so sick of typing "captain's challenge"!)

Thing is, the audio being requested by the tigers not only should have been made available immediately, and open to all to listen to, but the fact no one has 'laid ears' ?! on it after two weeks obviously makes people question why not!

The audio must exist. And as my understanding of these things goes, it must be saved as a file in audio format. A transcript would simply be unacceptable and for God's sake, it's not 1964....

Now, the video doesn't need a footprint, but if I were WT I would be demanding the actual file saved from the game.

If the file properties showed anything other than 24/7/2022, 5pm (whenever the exact time and date of the incident was), I would be extremely pissed and wanting a very good reason why.

Frankly, other than running out of space on a 5 inch floppy disk, I can't think of any valid reason why the nrl would have cause to alter the file whatsoever.

Just admit you were wrong! Ffs. Just apologise with sincerity already, don't let it happen again and let's move on!
