Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Fitzgibbon still lives with Laurie. Wonder whether he'll get a look in at nswu cup next season.
Though I'd prefer to have Hill and Scolari on the wings personally
That's what I'm thinking.

If his name is cleared, could he be an option to return ? Makes it easy if he can tag along to training with DL.

Our nsw cup backs have been mostly average.

Scolari is one to watch.
Unsure If Hill will return....

Surely Bala can get a deal.

Going to take a stab and guess Talau as the next re-signing probably til ‘24.
No chance.
After his run with injuries no other club would be offered him anything other than a train and trial. And nor should we. Offer him the same deal as Roberts. Train and trial over the offseason and see how he's tracking post injury and maybe then sign him to another one year deal.

Does everyone not realise that we have the worst roster in the comp! If we re-sign most of the current players we'll have no room for quality players, and will be fighting to avoid the spoon every year.

Our players are crap. Most of them should be released. Yet we've even already re-signed 3 players

gotta lock up your wooden spoon winners, Pascoe loves that winning feeling.

Yep. Whilst we apparently have heaps of cap room for '23, we only have a few roster spots left to fill.
We've got enough 'depth' (a kind word for average) and development signings - we need experienced quality to be added.

Interesting to see how this Bateman rumour pans out. Don’t think he’s been playing as well since returning to England, but he’s always had that old school tough Pom attitude about him and was a great player at the Raiders. Will be 29yrs next month so a good age for an experienced back rower and allow some of these young Flegg/Cup boys to transition through.

I think Sheens might have a crack at Schuster, Talakai and maybe A. Chrichton. Just hope iPap sticks solid.

With the 3 extensions this week am I correct in saying these are new contracts effective immediately that include the remainder of this season as well as the additional years?

If that is the case we could use the extra money from Nofa, Luch and Mikaele to upgrade the remaining portion of this season for each player to reduce what we’re paying them for remaining seasons.

For example if AJ’s deal for 24/25 is $300k per year but we increase the remaining part of this season by $150k we would only pay him $225k per year for following seasons. Frees up $150k and across three players that’s potentially $450k. (Obviously these numbers are just an example I have no idea what he’s being paid).

This then increases available salary cap for next season and beyond.

That is likely what they are doing - front-loading the modest extensions with money saved by 2022 loans/releases.

Can they still front load contracts, I wasn’t sure if that had been outlawed? I suppose if it’s not excessive then what’s the problem.

Good opportunity to position our cap for some significant signings that we can potentially pay a little bit overs for as enticement to play for us.

I'm one that doesn't think that AD is a good 5/8, well not yet anyway. If he was to be loaned to Melbourne I doubt they would have him as depth for Munster - they would be playing him at centre where his skill set goes close to matching the position requirements.
Seeing Munster is currently playing fullback for Melbourne I doubt you're correct.
