Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

From Sheens' statement yesterday, the club has committed more resources to Pathways and junior development and this allocation will continue to increase over the coming years. The engagement with our Macarthur and Campbelltown regions appears greater now than at anytime in the WTs' history. This is a great outcome for WTs. Note the comments from Phil Gould recently that clubs have to invest in juniors. This is our strength so why not play to it?

Sheens also made mention of the fact there has been an increased allocation to retaining our best juniors and referenced the U20s team being at the head of our Pathways. Surely this proactive approach should be acknowledged with more than the usual pitchforks.

We've seen most of our junior Qld recruits play SG Ball for the Wests Magpies whereas in the past they may have all gone to Balmain. I'm a huge Balmain supporter but I am strongly supportive of Wests Magpies and harnessing the sleeping giant that is the Macarthur and Campbelltown regions. How many young kids from areas such as Claymore may get the chance to play for Wests and WTs because the club has more resources on ground to identify and retain them? The Large brothers will play for WTs rather than the Rorters. Isn't that a great outcome?

In addition, we have the goldmine of talent in the Inner West region of Sydney. This area continues to produce new recruits for WTs.

From what reported yesterday, the WTs are proactive and are making decisions about the future direction of the club. This year was always going to be hard so results like last week will happen. It is disappointing but I am satisfied the foundations have been laid for a powerful WTs' club.
I hope it has a positive result but that kind of talk is nothing but more of the next year syndrome PR talk of which we have seen diddley squat in terms of improvement for more than a decade.

I disagree. The club has increased funding and resources for development, junior districts and to retain our best U20s players. It has also committed to increasing funding each year for this purpose. This is far from just a PR stunt and are very real initiatives which resulted in the club retaining the Large brothers, bringing the young half Alex Isdale to the club.

A great club man for the Sharks. Like Tamou, both achieved a lot in their respective careers, both the same age, both looking to bump up their super then return to their clubs where they have bonded. We are like a hot vindaloo, tasty until you wake up the next day.
He's the same age as JWH too. I dont think in this day and age that he's too old. He has overcome injuries which if anything has extended his playing days.
I'm hearing he is fit and punching out some good stats.
He can rise to the occasion in rep games and remember he scored that amazing try to clinch the Sharks Grand Final.

credit to the tigers for throwing their hat in the ring with Munster. $1.4m is enough for him to certainly take notice and consider it. I honestly think that given the state of our squad and the salary cap increase that it's actually bang on the money in terms of what we should offer too. let's see what happens eh?

All this will do is upset the other players knowing we won’t get him but are offering $ 1.4 million per year for him , then tell our current guys we don’t pay overs any more. Stupid stuff he won’t come near the joint , not even for $ 1.6 mill

For 5yrs he might, would be 33 I think last season of the deal. Be surprised if anyone else would offer close to that for 5yrs.

At least we are targeting a big fish, in the right position and is the best in his position.

Doubt anything will come of it but geez if we pulled Munster signing off it would be a huge get for us. The best backrower, hooker and 5/8th in the comp not many teams have done that.
