Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Klemmer. We have a good 7 at the club already but we don’t have a prop at Klemmer’s level.
So who is this good 7 we have - i'm guessing you mean Hastings who would have to be the slowest half in the comp. I find it hard to believe that those who bag Brooks somehow think that Hastings is the answer at 7.

Papalli was on more than Paulo at Raiders, And Paulo was on 750...

Is this true ? Didn't Tapine sign for 4 years at 3.4 million so 850k per year.

He is the premier prop in the game.

I just see red flags with Klemmer's salary. I see red flags with Bateman everywhere.

That article about the desperate Knights is to draw in the gullible. Hastings is the beacon for those who bag Brooks. The irony is Hastings has demonstrated little loyalty towards the WTs who resurrected his NRL career.

Funny how it's under a mill now.

It might mean Newcastle are going to pay him 900k which is pretty funny in itself.

It's still just rumors but I hope it's true. I think Hastings is our best 7 and Brooks and AD are on par for the 6 spot.

I'd love to not read the Brooks bashing on here other than when we play Newcastle.

He’s. Time here wasn’t without drama and I’m sure more will follow.
But he’s got a brain and to say that he would allow a deal like that is just plan stupid.
Yeah last couple years at Tigers he was all over the place. I think Benji being on board now is a good thing though. Hel have a big input in what he wants.

I'll give my assessment even though I don't bag Brooks.

Brooks isn't a great organizer in the middle of the park. He has his moments there. I remember him putting Stef over with a beautiful pass.

Hastings is significantly better in this area of the game.

Brooks to me is at his best as a running 6. So it's more about comparing Brooks to Doueihi.

I think moving Hastings to 13 is about fitting Doueihi and Brooks into the team as they are both better running 6's.

I think Brooks time is up with us.

However, if we do keep him then Sheens and Benji just need him to do running drills the whole off season to get his "running game" back.

Give Brooks a chip and chase game, Benji step, flick pass and a sick neck tattoo to make him scary.

If we don't keep Brooks I would go ahead with:

1. Staines (if we get him)
6. Laurie
7. Douhie
13. Hastings

I saw a tonne of "Could"s in that article
Direct text....

Newcastle could be set to finally land prized target Luke Brooks
he could partner Kalyn Ponga in the halves
Rothfield suggested the Tigers could be willing to let Brooks go
He could train the offseason to play specialist halfback (Hastings)

It's basically a suggestion.....

Be it Brooks, Doueihi, Hastings or Laurie- the Tigers need to settle on a halves combination.

Brooks, by rights, is probably the most rounded of all the options. However, he's also the one thats been the most disappointing.

Doueihi is an athlete. He might lack the polish in his passing game, and he doesn't have a 'complete' kicking game. But he's also probably our most dangerous player with the ball in hand. In my opinion, he's probably equally dangerous at #1 or #6.

Hastings is the best competitor & organisor of the group. He's the least athletic, however. And his kicking game would need some refining. That said- he DOES direct a team around the field. I know Sheens has him (reportedly) down as the #13. But for mine, he's a #7 much in the same way Chad Townsend is. Is he in the top 10 #7's in the game? Of course not. But he might be the best option to letting our other players shine in their roles.

Laurie is a bit weak in his defensive positioning. Hearing that he is training at 5/8 is interesting. He's probably got a nicer passing game that Doueihi. If the idea is to have those 2 swap positions, I can be on board with that. Laurie also has that 'spark'. He looks dangerous with the ball in hand.

Regardless of who is 7, 6 or 1- the success of the team starts with the forwards. If the Tigers can start matching up with teams in the middle, our halves & fullback will automatically look better.

If the future of the club's spine is currently playing in the juniors, what we need is players that can be transitioned out over time for the younger guys to come in.

Api, Hastings, Laurie & Doueihi as 9, 7, 6 & 1 could be the short term solution while our forwards learn how to compete on a regular basis.

think the plan is to hopefully keep Hastings as a 13 and Sheens to have 2 running five eigth's in Brooks and douhie
Behind a big pack it will be very difficult to defend against
