Hastings - Reasons for leaving

The article says almost nothing at all, so much for explaining the reasons you twit.

Any time I read a Dunny Weedler piece I criticise myself for not remembering that he basically writes gossip trash and why I should ever expect anything useful or balanced from such a rubbish person.

Brooks cops so much hate but he was clearly and it wasn't close our best kicker. Doueihi has a great bomb but he kicks on the first more than Brooks. Hastings didn't have a long kicking game at all last season. Hastings can put in a good short kick but Brooks does that as well.
Exactly Earl, good halfbacks have a few strings to their bow... I'm hoping Brooks works on his kicking game in the offseason.
It's like we're scared of kicking 40/20's or kick to the corners and pin them down.
It would be good to see the opposition having to kick deep in their own territory off the 5th tackle and under pressure. Brooks has to own that.

Just a square peg/ round hole situation in the end. He’s a skilful player and a competitor but if he wasn’t a first choice half we couldn’t really justify playing him at lock. I would imagine he continues doing what he did here at Newcastle - moments of great play mixed in with periods of banality.

I guess these journalists think because we're not successful yet they might just chew the meat off the bone.

Battle of Hastings: Real reasons Tigers let halfback leave

The mystery behind the hurried exit of fan favourite Jackson Hastings can be put down to some petty and seemingly innocuous differences with new Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens.
After trying for a year to sign Luke Brooks and failing, the Knights turned their attention to Hastings – and the Tigers offered little if any resistance. Today we can explain why they were willing to let a star player go. We already knew of the club’s interest in Mitchell Moses, but there is more to the Hastings exit, which not all Tigers faithful will find palatable.

Some at the Tigers are spreading the word that Hastings was hard to handle, but the issues he was having seem to be minor at best. The Tigers have copped plenty of flak for allowing Hastings – a quality performer last season – to leave the club after just one year and join Newcastle. Former Origin prop David Klemmer moved in the other direction at the same time.
On the surface, the problems appeared to start for Hastings when Sheens wanted him moved from halfback – the position the Knights have signed him to play. He was shifted to the No.13 role and, while Hastings was prepared to play anywhere, it’s not his preferred option. But there was more to his falling out with the club than that.

Hastings also showed strong support for former coach Michael Maguire after he was dumped by the Tigers in June, and that put noses out of joint.
Behind the scenes, Hastings also failed to fill in a welfare form that the club required its players to complete. That was held against him by some. It was viewed as an act of defiance. But it seems quite petty when other players can be involved in incidents that grab headlines and they are kept on.
Sources with knowledge of the situation also say the Tigers were upset with Hastings’ use of social media to track his rehabilitation from a broken ankle and syndesmosis injury, which ended his 2022 season. He was posting training and recovery updates, which fans lapped up, which old heads at the club frowned upon. Itwould appear to be a veryold-fashioned attitude fromthe club.
Sheens did not respond when asked for comment about the reasons for Hastings’ exit.

What a time wasting article and on Tigers of course for click baits..

Of course the media won't comment on the best recruitment we have had in like 15 years..

We’re all guilty of it. When a player leaves us we find things that’s wrong with his game say we are better off without him. But let’s face it if Jackson resigned with us to play lock we would all be thrilled
😂 agreed.
You could tell there was some kind of relationship issue when he was given the 13 jersey, but continued to play half.

I think Brooks and whoever plays 5/8 will be advised to spend many hrs on their kicking games. It is such a crucial part of the game, all the good halves have it. And we need it.

I’m surprised that Hastings has gone from being our best player to having so many things wrong with his game. His slide seem to coincide with his move to Knights?
Reading the news headlines, it was Hastings, Douehi, then even Laurie was referred to as a star.
Take your pick, i don't think anyone deserved those names. But Ofa never gave up.
